  • I visited home last month for my mom & sisters birthday and got to spend some time with my grandma! I decided to ask my grandma some questions about her hardships of coming to America back in the 80s.

Such a soothing video♥️ makes me think of times when I go back home (Beijing) during long breaks and I’d talk with my grandma at breakfast and she inspires me so so much. She probably doesn’t even realize how big of a influence she is to me bc her stories are just her life experiences, but to me they are life changing lessons. Like how she values education when I complain about heavy loads of schoolwork. She didn’t get to finish high school bc of the culture revolution but she always manages to learn on her own. It’s just so inspiring and this video reminds me of the those good times I spent with her:) thank you so much weylie I love all your videos so so much♥️♥️♥️

This video is so so comforting. It reminds me so much of me and my grandparents. I was raised by my grandparent, but I've already lost them longer than the time I had with them. Their faces are even getting a little bit blurry when I think of them. There're for sure some things happened in my childhood I'll never forget. The look on their faces. The way they talked. All in all, part of the reasons that I'm the person I am right now is because of them. I think no matter how long it goes, I'll always feel like they are looking after me at somewhere I can't see.

My grandma passed away 2 months ago and watching the interaction between you and your grandma makes me miss her so much! (Especially when you are speaking Cantonese! I'm from HK.) When I was small she used to buy me pineapple buns and cooking noodles with eggs for me too. We always watched HK news on the couch together after every meal. Being around her also gave me positivity and she was also that kind of traditional "happy and cute and caring poh poh". Thanks for sharing this happy chat with your grandma, that's heartwarming and memorable :)

this hits so close to home. although my grandparents were already retired by the time they came here, they sought every opportunity to continue working in the states even though it was extremely hard for them to adjust to the new culture. when i was younger, my grandparents would always tell me about their journey coming to America. of course i was too naive to understand it at the time. but this past summer i was fortunate enough to go back to China with my grandparents to see where they grew up and their lifestyle. when we went to China, we would go out, shop, buy groceries, interact with people on the streets. i have never seen my grandparents so genuinely happy. it got me thinking how beyond grateful i am that my grandparents sacrificed everything to start a new life in America in order for my parents and i to live a better and happier life.

My family is also from Grangzhou. My dad on his deathbed admitted his life regret was immigrating his family (his wife and baby me) to the US. Like your grandma, they would have had everything - a house, retirement, better standard of living, healthcare if they stayed there. They suffered so much for me but the US never treated them well and he never achieved the American Dream. Really heartbreaking actually.

Watching your video reminds me of my two grandmas. Growing up 2nd gen cantonese-american, you know that there was always a struggle making ends meet. Now that I'm seeing my parents getting older, it touches me that they moved to America for a better life. I wish I could ask both my grandparents what it was like back in the days before moving to Hawaii, sadly my grandma died when I was 4 and my other grandma has had multiple heart surgeries and stroke that it's been hard to speak to her. My grandpa died of lung cancer and my other grandpa died of old age, but it was always a joy hearing stories of them back in Hong Kong/Guangzhou.

Watching this reminds me of my Grandma that has passed away this year, she never gets angry to me too, she always caring and lovable too, eventhou she doesn't have that "good" relationship with my mom, they always argued, but to me she seems understanding. The sad thing is i live in different country with her, so hard to not have those moments often, so precious your moments with her.

I know a lot of friends of mine haven’t seen their grandparents in a very long time. It’s truly amazing to see the relationship that you two have ❤️

This video deserves all the love in the world. This was such a sweet video that was so simple but so meaningful and beautiful. It truly made me appreciate all my parents went through as immigrants who can from South Korea, leaving their whole family behind, in order for my sister and I to have a better life. This video helped me to realize that I need to always show my appreciation for them and enjoy the little things ❤️❤️

I used to ask everything about my grandma (popo) I love having small talks with her and every thing had happened the first person I talk to will be my grandma.. she used to give me advised and make me think positive.. few years back she get alzheimer and she barely remember anything.. she will talk all those old stuff and not every time she will recognize me or remember my name.. when she did I felt so happy. Even though she don't remember me but she knows that I'm close to her... Everytime I meet her she will touch my hair and talk with me..she left a good memories for me whenever when I was a kid.. although she not here now.. but I'm glad to see people that really close with that grandparents..do appreciate every moment with them❤️

I wish I had the chance to ask my grandparents all these things. I wonder if they would say similar things.. All of my grandparents are gone.. and I was too young back then to know much about life to ask these questions. This made me feel nostalgic. It was really endearing to hear and see your interactions and relationship with your grandma. :)

Hi Weylie~I have been watching your videos faithfully for many years, but this is my first comment. I have always enjoyed your pleasant personality, great sense of humor and of course the amazing story telling gift. But recently, you sort of added this sophisticated and mature layer onto your already great self, and wow it looks good on you! I love that you are trying to find your true self in this crazy (youtube) world, and always want to improve. Can't wait to see where the future takes you. I'm sure no matter what you do, it will be something you truly love. This video is just beautiful. Makes me miss my grandma and her food so much. Thank you!
