That's what I loved about the Big East, teams rooted for other Big East teams. I don't see that at all in the ACC (SU fan here). I still root for Big East teams and enjoy watching their games. I miss it.
Coming from a UConn fan I agree. It was a blast to watch 2 old school Big East teams going at it. I find myself even rooting for Syracuse now. (However not to win it all cuz I still want UConn to hold the record for the being the lowest seeded team ever to win the Championship). (7 seed in 2014)

Buddy gave McNeil props in the post game presser. Like he said, McNeil can shoot and gets great elevation on the shot. That was a fun (as a Cuse guy) and high level game.

I think it's underrated and underutilized. In this day and age, with all the hand checking, holding, riding and bumping they allow in college basketball, it's not easy to get open for a shot right at the arc, and when you drive it, you have to play through so much contact that it's hard to be efficient. For a shooter with range who's "feeling it", a 28 footer for 3 points is a better percentage than a contested three from closer or a contested two.

It’s honestly a relatively new phenomenon. Old M.O. for a long time was underperforming in the tournament, but lately we’ve been bubble Cuse that no one wants to face.
Syracuse did this in 2016 on their way to the Final Four as a #10 seed!!!! That 2-3 zone is so hard to prepare for especially when you have about 36 hours to do so. I don’t think they get to the Final Four but I won’t be surprised.

Syracuse fan here for 25 years. That zone defense kills me. There's always one guy on the other team that hits so many 3s. That's why we only won 1 chip. Hopefully this year is another. Buddy is awesome!

Syracuse always plays that zone defense aggressively and it's defense that wins the NCAA Tournament games for the Orange. They are not great individual defenders but compensate for there lack of athleticism by playing great team defense and fundamental principles of basketball such as blocking out and setting good hard screens. Dont be surprised to see them in the Final 4.
Boeheim has become an April/March tournament coach. Last year's team struggled but their final game was destroying UNC in the in the ACC tournament. It take time to learn your role and and Griffin basically replaces last year's best player Elijah Hughes. We haven't heard from Griffin yet in this tournament, look for his breakout game. I think he was frustrated to end the season, he sat a lot during the Virginia game. He now has a week to think about it. Houston is very athletic but they basically play one-on-one basketball. They crash the boards for offensive rebounds.
Griffin is obviously on a very short leash. It's mainly because of his defense and rebounding or, rather, that Braswell is an improvement there and, with Edwards playing a little more, they can play Marek on the wing. I fear that Griffin is the odd man out, but there is some hope. He's been a "no show", relegated to watching, in one game only to come back and lead them in scoring the next. One thing about him is that he can shoot over people, and a hand in his face doesn't even faze him. When he's hot, he unguardable out there, and he's capable of scoring at the rim. Ironically, he left Illinois because they were so loaded that he wasn't getting as much playing time as he thought he deserved. Now, he's getting even less, and you could make the case that Illinois needed his 3-pt shooting more than SU does. This team has no shortage of 3-pt shooters, and when three of them (ie, Buddy, Girard and Griffin) are threats from the logo, it's hard to defend everyone.
Bob Huggins has no f-ing luck if WV was up 2 instead of down 2 with the ball inbounding with 4 seconds left they probably call a jump ball. Syracuse is good team & Jim is a good coach. This loss will bother me for awhile!!!! Go Mountaineers!!!!

Was this really an upset though? West Virginia was 19-9 Syracuse is 17-9 coming into this game. Sorry this is me but I didn't see this has some huge upset. These were two mediocre teams during the regular season.

@@a7xtherevrend Why is everybody so surprised by ohio state losing, like that you acting like Ohio state was 24-2 or something. Ohio State was 21-10 on the season entering the tournament. Any of the year Ohio state would've been a 7 seed with that many loses instead of a two seed.

Not now probably but during the football seasons from the 1940s up to 2012 we was considered arrival even in basketball people even mentioned on the Facebook pages old Big East rival but if you believe we're not rivals with Syracuse than I'm not going to argue
