Great video man. Just want to say, as someone who is strictly a collector and hasn’t played the TCG since the early 2000’s, I love the battle system. Being brought back in at a simple level already has me trying to figure out the modern game and how to compete. I think that they designed this app to convert collectors into players and it’s working.
I kinda enjoy the battling mainly because the power level isn't as extreme as the regular tcg. Single prize pokemon being able to compete with ex is so nice, it reminds me a lot of earlier expansions
I kinda wish they put this effort into tcg live as well, live is obviously better but it's still just a shell of tcgo so pocket brings a breathe of fresh air for me
I think the simplification of the card game is a good thing. The games are quick and you can feel like you were entertained while on the toilet, or waiting in line. The focus seems to be around getting collectors to play the TCG, which can only help the entire ecosystem. This is probably going to introduce a good amount of people into the full-blown TCG, or at the very least interest them enough to watch games and understand what's happening to some degree. I do agree that unless they come out with seasonal content (once a quarter or something) with new art, mechanics, or gimmicks it will get stale fast. It doesn't have a strong game loop. If they can somehow manage to combine this app with a Pokemon game (in the likes of Red, Blue, Yellow, ect) they have a gold mine in their hands. Hopefully, this is just the start.
Having way more fun with this game than I expected. Can’t wait til we get into other gens! Maybe once they get more cards and all that they will implement a regular TCGLive mode
I'm having a blast playing this. I haven't played the TCG in over 10 years and I think this is a stepping stone that will get people into the physical card game
Just one thing about the battle system that should be noted, you cant attach an energy if you go first which is absolutely the worst part about the whole thing. If they change that it will be way more balanced. Great vid!
This is the first time I’ve ever battled. I’m learning but I haven’t battled a real person yet. I don’t know anyone who knows how to play in person. After hearing this I should download tcg live.
I had some fun playing with it. The cards look great and it's nice that if the app crashes during opening packs. It sends those cards to your collection already. Once you boot it up again
7:00 as someone that used to play the actual TCG, this version works for me..the actual TCG can get so overwhelming if you arent opening new packs for each new set release and your decks can become a little obsolete very fast if you aren't getting new code cards from new packs all the time, i just couldn't keep up $ wise like this hobby overall 😂
As someone who used to play the actual tcg, teaching people a gutted version of the tcg instead of polishing your actual tcg app feels weird. I feel like this simple battle mode exists purely as a secondary function to the pack opening. Appreciate your feedback but I stand on what I said.
I rlly enjoy it and still get a bit of a rush from pulling a great card, but not compared to the real packs I just don’t think it is a physical card killer I agree
Just wait until trading is available! I like it. The battling is fun as a more casual light version of TCG Live, and yes the arts are incredible, i just wish the refresh time for pack openings was a little shorter considering its just two packs a day we get, and the amount of the pack hourglass currency used to speed it up to open seems like a lot for how much we are able to have, but just little gripes for an otherwise great app thus far.
I've been playing since launch in NZ, and I love collecting way more than the battle features. Right now, I'd have to say frostmoth sleep has been the most effective deck to win. However, I will not be replacing TCGLive because this battle feature is just not satisfying.
@OpossumBud oh yea a pretty deadly combo. Add a psyduck for support block and a golduck for a 2 energy 70 hit. I do like this game, but I definitely agree it's very dumb down. I hope it evolves into something better.
I think I'm in agreement that a "PTCG Lite" isn't the best selling point - The regular TCG isn't exactly the most complex, relatively speaking, so I think just porting the full game wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe if they gain a bit of traction they can give it more support and add in the full TCG experience as an alternative format for people who aren't as into the simplified version or just want more complexity out of the game. They could even go the Yugioh Master Duel route, and add in something that still plays like the real life TCG, but is still curated and it's own unique format separate from the TCG. I guess they aren't as concerned with opening up more gameplay avenues given how large the collector scene is though.
If anything, it makes me want to get more actual cardboard. ❤ I do like the game art but everything is a sub or microtransaction these days and it's sad.
I think the battle system for Pocket are not for people who already enjoy the actual card game. I'm just a collector, I tried PTCG Live but couldn't get into it after months of trying, I just wasn't having fun. But I've been playing multiple Pocket battles every single day since launch. Sometimes games need a baby mode for people like me haha
Have you played TCG it's ass. It is incredibly buggy. The game and interface are dated back to the 2000s. It's a horrible game. This game is meant to mobile. Quicker games. Starting from the beginning rather than 20 sets in.
@ this is everyone’s criticism. Instead of fixing their actual tcg app from bugs and stuff they just decided to focus on pack openings and tack on a half baked version of the tcg. It feels lazy, and this isn’t the current tcg play at all. It’s gutted.
@@OpossumBud 👍👍 I think this will take off for kids though I mean I'm not feeling it but the new generation coming up won't have an attachment to physical stuff because it's just not something they experience much anymore Which is sad 🤷🤷 I do see some positive from this though Hopefully it gets kids to like the cards for what they are, the art, the Mon whatever, at least until someone figures out a way to monetize it..............
Still wish live looked as good as pocket does. Pocket looks so good but the gameplay is pretty boring. Live is really fun but it looks terrible and still has too many bugs.
Yeah, this is going to do NOTHING to the physical TCG game. NFT's NEVER reduced the price on any real life items, so...... logic would dictate that this is going to be in its own league and will not even touch the physical aspects of the game.
@george609 oh ok I hear it as if you start with a free trial but makes sense it would be optional, I wouldn't spend it. But at least it's an option. Thanks for the info!
Happy Halloween.. The artwork on the cards is nice but absolutely do not download this app and waste your cash buy real product.... Just my stupid opinion.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💪
You’re being way too critical about the battle system. It’s almost exactly like calling base set Pokémon dumbed down. Of course you don’t have to think a whole lot! There’s only 50 or so cards that people are using in the meta. There’s not gonna be a lot of strategizing with a small pool of cards. Just give it time lol
I am not being way too critical, the system is gutted, your deck is a third the size, you don’t have energies in your deck, and the supporters do different smaller things. It uses the same system as the regular tcg, it’s not a new battle system entirely. I criticized it just fine.

This game has gotten at least 8 of my friends into pokemon who never have played before or collected. I count this as a win.
May your 8 friends still collect for years to come 👍🏽
I just like holding cards physically

It’s teaching me to actually play the game with cards and battle which I haven’t done since I was probably 11
Download live and play the real thing as well, it’ll teach you a lot more
This made Full Arts & Regular ex's fun to pull again. Very impressed with this app
I had some fun with it as well!
Happy Halloween to my favorite Poke positive RUclipsr!

Playing battles without 3000000 hp pokemon at a snap pace is refreshing
I think you’re playing yugioh
There is still high HP ex cards in pocket
@OpossumBud there is but the hp numbers and attacks are 1/3 or even less than the current ex's
I'd say they're black and white era power creep
It’s really nice seeing the older cards with silver boarders opposed to the yellow ones.

Really enjoying it at the moment, but it feels like it's just shiny new thing and the thrill of opening packs
People and friends also doing it helps a lot I get it 👍🏽 that was half the fun of Pokémon Go release day
that exeggutor ex is my favorite card. 40 damage and 80 damage with heads? crazyy

It's essentially an NFT, especially with pocket accounts already on EBAY.
