At first I didn't think it was written by AI because none of the pictures were AI generated. But after Arlo went through most of the thread, it dawned on me that they might have just used some kind of API to pull images from an official sonic screenshot database (You wouldn't want any chance of pulling from deviantart). And just told it to write a quippy line commenting on each post and Sonic's progression through the years. That is exactly what this sounds like. Sonic goes 3D again? There had not been a prominent 2D release in a long time at that point. He was just staying 3D. It's just such a weird thread.
@@AphidKirby saw another comment saying it was another screenshot that was -enhanced- edited by AI, like the Prime image. so maybe not generated, but the AI use is still clearly there.

Man. As a sonic fan, I am both offended that the only thing this AI seemed to get right was that these are all indeed pictures of Sonic. But also, as a sonic fan, this is freaking HYSTERICAL!!!! Like, holy crap I needed a laugh like that!
Sonic also is _technically_ a "short king," isn't he? I mean, there's no official height chart, but Sonic X and the first live action movie both depicted him as _smaller than a human CHILD._ I don't remember if there were any kid NPCs in Sonic Adventure, but the adult humans kicking around Station Square were also taller than Sonic, if I recall. Sure, Boom is the tallest-looking Sonic design, but being _the tallest short guy_ might not stop you from being considered short. 😋 Hedgehogs are tiny, including Sonic and friends. *TL;DR - It was also right about Sonic being short.* 😆
Two weeks now! And I couldn’t be more excited, because now we’re guaranteed another disaster in the future. You'd think that BUT that image of sonic boom sonic has been altered by AI, or recreated, as the colors are off from the shot of the show its taken from, with the background completely edited out.
I dunno this just all feels like a joke playing off Sonic fans' propensity to correct people and argue online. These don't seem like the kind of mistakes GPT would make, usually it's pretty good at describing past events because it can basically copy Wikipedia. Plus, the fact that literally every single one is wrong points to it being a joke. If one or two of the descriptions were nonsense and the rest were just boring but true summaries of the history of Sonic, I'd be more inclined to believe it was AI. I'm not some big AI cheerleader but to me the inaccuracies here don't line up with something you'd expect from AI generated content. The flaws of AI generated text tend to be that it's repetitive and derivative, and it gets the little things right for the most part but falls apart when you consider the large-scale structure.
i’m 99% sure they used AI for the Sonic Boom image too. like, not only did they use the wrong Sonic for the year, but it is not even actual art from Sonic Boom media. there’s so much subtle wonkiness in the way he looks, plus the weird cloud background
I'm pretty sure they used AI to remove background characters and details from the original image. As if photoshopping a prominent character in an image is something that should be difficult for a multi-trillion dollar company.
thing is, there's enough Google Play products featuring Sonic you could have made an actual List & promote your AppStore, but that would require a human that actually gets paid

What's even weirder is that AI hasn't been this bad in a while. If you ask chatGPT to do this exact thing, it would do a much better job. Maybe google is working on a more primitive in-house AI and is using their twitter account with 7.5 million followers to test it out?? That's even more baffling. I have no answers. It's hilarious though
There’s some models that have begun a process of “inbreeding” since there’s so much AI garbage content online that they’ve begun to scrape content that’s not made by humans. The results are the programs getting worse and worse, going back to incomprehensibility since they’re pulling from content that was already pretty nonsensical.
Even without AI inbreeding there's some people who put a single obviously wrong fact into written works online now just to trip up AI. The humans reading it and know it's a joke, but AI takes it as fact. It's the modern equivalent to map makers making up a town just to catch people who copy their stuff.
@@PeeperSnail Examples? Because if that's the case, I would be noticing it, since the culture has some weird hate boner for AI. Of course they have to conspiracy theory type garbage.
If it's AI it's just adding fuel to the fire that we should not be replacing real human beings entirely, if it's not AI it just shows that they have no idea what they are talking about and do not care. Either way, this is about as soulless and corporate as it gets.
11:02 the rabbit and mouse references are awesome. Sonic’s character design was originally a rabbit. And the game was originally called “project NeedleMouse”
That's actually been debunked by the creators. "Needle Mouse" is a direct transliteration of the word "hedgehog" in Japanese, with both words combined meaning hedgehog. His name was just 'Mr. Hedgehog'.
3:42 Apparently MSCHF boots aren't even a Sonic thing, they're just some weird and obscure brand of overpriced giant red rubber boots 💀 The website looks like its straight from the 90s, I have no idea how the AI even found MSCHF or knows what it is, I think it's own known as a niche brand within the fashion community.
It might actually be a human, because in 2020, Google Play tweeted a "Guess That Song" post where it had footage from Sonic 1. But the music wasn't from Sonic and it DIDN'T EVEN EXIST
i was half expecting the start of the thread to say: I'm sorry, but as an AI language model, I cannot make a post on X (formerly Twitter,) but I can give helpful suggestions.
The chance of there being a quiet day in the sonic community on twitter Is the same chance Twitter will stop finding pointless things to argue about 0.0000%
If this is AI-made, then the most insidious part is that they didn't disclose that. Companies lying about things being made by humans is where a lot of the distrust comes from, and this isn't helping.
Google is one of the main pushers of AI pollution. I don't know what they were thinking because this absolutely puts a spotlight on how pathetic their product is.
(I haven't fact checked this myself, so take this with a grain of salt.) Apparently, Google Play has been making these sonic posts since 2020, before AI was popular. This just confirms that aliens are real, since no human being is that disconnected from society, even after being told numerous times they were wrong.
6:51 the part that hurts me the most as a Sonic fan in specifically THAT post? They call 2020 a "strange year" and to leave it behind ("let's leave it at that"), when 2020 was actually a resurgence year for the franchise with the first Sonic movie being one of the best products in the entire franchise and revitalizing a ton of hope and mainstream goodwill towards it. While for the average folk it was indeed a rough year, for the Sonic FRANCHISE it was a VERY GOOD one. (Oh, and of course, for once the design match the year... but the frame does not)
I just wanna throw my hat in the ring and say I absolutely love this channel! Just short topical videos about things you care about on a regular basis are AWESOME!
There have been some projects for automated, timed AI content (usually photos and captions) cropping up since January of 2023 in that tech sphere (that I saw). This is most certainly Google testing if they can get away with letting the genie out of the bottle.
You know how they say that getting every question wrong on a test is near impossible unless you’re deliberately trying to get a 0? I wonder if that was the case here, in an attempt to spur discussion about such wild inaccuracies and draw attention to the Google Play Store.
Speaking of ai photos was sonic boom Sonic's right arm always that allergic to his hip or am I tripping Been a while since I've seen sonic boom so I don't remember what the animation was like
A few of the images were AI generated too. The Sonic Boom image was AI generated, and the Sonic Prime "screenshot" seems to have been AI generated as well, using an existing screenshot as the base.
What immediately stood out to me is that all of the screenshots were either from Mobile ports of the games, or movies/shows from Netflix, Peacock, etc… Which are things on Google Play. TL;DR they’re basically abusing their rights to a small part of the Sonic brand for a publicity stunt. The long explanation is that all those images are from things that would need to be shown on Google Play, which likely means that they were only able to use these images without Sega intervening because they have advertising/marketing rights to the assets, which is usually added to any publishing contract because Google Play needs to use the assets given to them on their store for screenshots, featured lists, search results, ads, etc.
The last time I saw images of Sonic as inaccurate as in this thread I was running an Um Actually for a community gameshow night, using Sonic as a prompt for a Fictionary shiny question. ...And someone accidentally drew Arlo instead.

I would prefer we *don't* get another thread like this. We don't want to encourage this kinda behavior.
@SmashCrafter321 Tbh, I hope morr threads like this happen as it shows major companies that using AI will just get them laughed at.
This was either written with AI or by an intern with a great idea to farm some clicks. Possibly both.
Or an intern that had no clue what they were doing or what Sonic was.

It's even more bad when you know the official Sega Sonic the Hedgehog account is known for memes, jokes and overall shitposts that sometimes makes no sense. Even they were so stunned by this thread to a point they didn't even bother to make it into a joke lmao
With no uppercase too, they can't even bother to pay attention to any grammar xD
If Google needed somebody to ramble about Sonic on Twitter, I’m already doing it for free
Sadly, they don’t give a crap about Sonic, much less Sonic Trivia. Or anything besides the financial prize from leading the AI race, human connections and community be damned.
I don't have a job; I'm a professional Copywriter specialized in advertising, especially online writing. Stuff like this makes me livid and disrespected.
The sonic boom image is 100% AI generated, look at the scarf and the weird hip
@AphidKirby whoops, thought you said sonic prime for a moment. I'll have to double check the sonic boom image
Remember Sonic Hitchhiking Simulator? It's a pretty underrated classic.
Pretty much the only thing that could have made this better is if the AI *had* started pulling images from DeviantArt.
@@AphidKirby saw another comment saying it was another screenshot that was -enhanced- edited by AI, like the Prime image. so maybe not generated, but the AI use is still clearly there.
Now I want Google Play to make an AI thread about Arlo through the years just to see just how catastrophically they're going to mess up everything.
"Arlo in 2008. He is playing Paper Mario Color Splash and is having a great time. Look at him smile"
Look at him smile 😊😊😊😊❤😂🎉🎉🎉🎉😮😢😂😂😢😅

Google Play after not posting in two weeks: "No, it's now illegal to make A.I threads."
I remember visiting this thread and so many replies were just straight up insulting. One person was asking for the $25 they spent on a google product back and the funniest thing was that the Google Play account was responding to most of them, utterly clueless🤣.
I feel like that's another flag for AI usage, an AI wouldn't get that and would just keep replying as if nothing was wrong.
Why would google have an AI thats capable of responding on twitter
The fact that these even contradict information found on Google Play ITSELF is amazing.
The fact that Sonic the Hedgehog himself replied to this thread completely flabbergasted is hilarious
This thread made me feel like i was having a stroke
Love how it jumps straight from 2006 to 2018

Interestingly enough, Google Play has since deleted their Sonic thread. They still haven't posted anything since then and it's been over a week.
the social media manager probably just got killed by an exec for posting that thread.
Two weeks now! And I couldn’t be more excited, because now we’re guaranteed another disaster in the future. Whether they choose to admit it was AI, make excuses, apologize vaguely without addressing what happened at all, completely ignore it and just start posting ads again, or whatever else exists in between, people are going to shred it to PIECES all over again and I genuinely can’t wait
The use of Boom Sonic makes me think this was an intentional joke
That version of Sonic IS the funniest.
It's the release date of sonic boom (the song) so it's likely not
@@titanic_monarch796 yeah this was 100% an ai-generated thread
It's possibly a weird in-between, but you could be right.
Calling the boom design a short king when people were making memes around the time it was revealed about how lanky he was is very funny

I love it when media people fail to accurately portray game media. Especially in TV shows. It’s so funny to just go “YOU ARE SO WRONG.”

Hedgehog'.

“Shadow what the fuck are you talking about?”
(I haven't fact checked this myself, so take this with a grain of salt.) Apparently, Google Play has been making these sonic posts since 2020, before AI was popular. This just confirms that aliens are real, since no human being is that disconnected from society, even after being told numerous times they were wrong.
I reckon Sonic would take "fast as lightning" as an insult.

I love that this channel lets you talk about goofy stuff like this
There have been some projects for automated, timed AI content (usually photos and captions) cropping up since January of 2023 in that tech sphere (that I saw).

Been a while since I've seen sonic boom so I don't remember what the animation was like
every one of these pictures makes my blood boil in a different way
Even an ai would be able to differentiate the height of different renders of a character, Dream Team must have made them sour
In the Sonic Prime image, they entirely decimated half of Big the Cat! I thought he was a building at first until I saw the one side of cheek fluff!
