HOw cute that the hat is designed by Judy 'Head' I love that, Staci! Loving your tutorials and have been for years. If any time I need to look something up, I go to you. How ironic that a girl from Alaska is now living in Texas. Couldn't be more opposite hahahahaha! Take care and see you in the next tutorial. Lu in Australia
I love how you always add extra tips in your tutorials -- such as how to join smoothly on 16" needles. Thank you for my weekly moment of 'Knitting Zen.'
Thanks for including a less than optimal color choice with the pink petals. That will help inform my color choices. Kraemers’s perfection yarn is…..perfect for gifting as you explained.
Love the hat!!!! For some reason, all I make are ribbed brims.... The rolled looks great! I'm with you, NO magic loop!!! 😉 I've always considered you my "go-to expert", so happy to see the things that the things I guessed on are correct!! I was always taught to 'loop' instead of slipknot when casting on, when joining, slip (pass over?) the loop over the last cast on stitch (putting that last stitch back on the right needle) then knit... Then there's no "jog" & no "bump"... If that makes sense.... I also just drop the loop on a straight edge, then corner isn't 'tight'. I learned that as a child, and that's more years than I want to admit to ago..🤷
Thank you for this tutorial! I am going to start my hat today, your video feeds my enthousiasm and the confidence that I can do this. My first fair isle project... on my first 40 cm (16 inch) circular needles. Thank you for putting your time and effort into sharing your knowledge in your very clear and spot on videos. I learn so much, and it adds so much to the joy I get out of my knitting.
Update: I knitted the hat with yarn leftovers from a sweater, and just finished it! I feel so proud and competent :-D My first hat and my first fair isle project. Thanks again for the tutorial.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I find fair isle so intimidating but now I want to try again, using your tips. I am really glad you had that tip on how to handle the curl of the brim. Happy knitting. Stay healthy, be kind and keep smiling.
A week wow!!!! It takes me about a month or more. I keep saying I’m a nervous new knitter in reality I have been doing it for months now. I have just bought some self pattering yarn so I hope it turns out ok. I will let you know next year 😁
@@shelleysykes5317 I know I know. I actually have amazed myself that I haven’t given up I normally have a short concentration span and get bored or give up. @@Felicity2121 As long as you keep enjoying the process, or the "trying" as you say. :) And Very Pink Knits is the best channel. I've learned so much from her and her videos are the best! Happy knitting!
Good morning, Staci... Ive been looking for a fair isle pattern. This is just lovely. I'm so curious about the edging you have after your cast on. It lays flat and I'm hoping you have a video on instructions for it. If you do, (or any followers) , can you please direct me to it. Thank you soooo much.
Hi-great video, thank you. I hav made this pattern twice now, once with worsted weight yarn, using a #6 16" round needle, casting on 112 sts. the hat is huge. I ordered the yarn as instructed in the pattern a din this video. It is much larger than what yours appears to be. I am not a loose knitter. Am I doing something wrong? Are you using a smaller needle than a 6?
All of the links are in the video description field...here is the link to the pattern only. mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/FMfcgzGlkFwKBmDgdDZlwvdLMfbCkqSL
Yes- I'm still putting out new videos every week! Because of the pandemic, and no longer being able to go to the studio to shoot videos, I'm having to shoot them at home, which means I have to run my own cameras and lights, while also teaching the knitting. :) It is a lot more work, so I sometimes skip a week here and there, but I'm still working on getting a new video out every week!
@@verypinkknits oh yay! I’m sorry to hear wave #2 has put a monkey wrench in your normal way to film, it’s all good we are here anticipating your next great video as always 🙏🏽💕
This website has a good explanation. We kind of use "fair isle" as a general term for color work involving two different colors of yarn in a single row/round. kelbournewoolens.com/blog/2017/06/stranded-colorwork-vs-fair-isle-knitting/#:~:text=Stranded%20knitting%20is%20a%20type,round%20to%20create%20a%20pattern.&text=In%20Fair%20Isle%20knitting%2C%20only,the%20back%20of%20the%20work.
Stacy I have a question. Can you use the chiaogoo shorty needles the blue package to do the crown instead of dpns or are they still to long. Appreciate all your tutorials
The shorties will work for a while, but they will be too long once you get down to the tippy-top of the hat. So you'll have to switch to DPNs (or magic loop) at some point.
I like the look of fair isle and get excited about trying it. I just can’t get my brain wrapped around reading a chart. Are there any patterns that don’t have charts only?
Fair isle patterns are usually charted to show the different colors. Charted patterns that show stitches (not colors) are often available in both charted and written instructions, but I don't think I've ever seen a fair isle pattern with written color instructions. With practice, I promise - chart reading isn't so bad. :)
Hi Staci, was just wondering if your purl round went all the way around the hat brim? I was trying to tell, but it looks like it’s only on 1/2. Bought this pattern and I’m loving it! Thanks for sharing it! Great holiday gifts!
@@verypinkknits thanks! I am actually modifying the size just a bit to make of these for my great-niece. She’s 4, and already a little clothes diva…she loves her “fashions” and she’s gonna love this hat! In measuring her, she already has a 20” head circumference, so I checked the yarn( from my stash… it’s Anne Geddes by RedHeart. I used it to make a kit Afghan for her before she was born. It works up beautifully and washes well) it’s a #3 size yarn, just a tab bit smaller than Worsted, but it still used a US 6 to determine its gauge. I simply am knitting Rounds 1-10 instead of 20, and am following the pattern for the Chart and decreasing the top! Hopefully it’ll turn out as I figured it will(Math is not necessarily my forte! Lol! If it turns out, I’ll post it and #you. If not, we’ll, I try again..thanks again!

Such a great tutorial on fair Isle knitting. Thanks for your tip on the purl row used as a stopper on the rolled brim of the hat.

Liked the trick for the purl row to stop the rolled brim and the separate plies inside the hat.
Excellent tutorial. Love the technique for the hole at the top and the Purl row for the brim!!
Aha! I *knew* I could straighten things out at the end of the first round! 😁

Wait I’m confused why didn’t you join the round you just started knitting is knitting the round not necessary for this type of hat?
It is joined in-the-round. I demonstrate that at about the 8 minute marker.

There is no round 60. The pattern goes from row 59 to 61?
Please look at the directions for Round 48. There are no even numbered rounds listed after that, they are all just knit.

I use a few different needles, all by Knitter's Pride. Mindful, Zing, and Ginger.
I hope you never go back to filming in the studio because it's so fun to hear an/or see the dogs...

No - that round is just like all of the others, only two colors in the round, not three.
