BIG NEWS: I have designed my own Survival Knife called “APO-1”. You can get it now at my online store: www.survivallilly.at/ Thank you so much for your support
Your dog is so crazy. Thank you for always including him. Maybe someday he will actually dig something up. You and Dax have brought me a lot of joy over the last year. And as always, I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks, Lilly. Thanks, Dax.
Cedar is my favorite wood for bow drill set. It doesn't matter how many fires that one makes, it is always a great sense of accomplishment to bring an ember to life! Keep up the good videos.
+Survival Lilly : Might could be Mediterranean cypress. To the left, I don't think that any cypresses are native to Austria, so it could be a volunteer from someone's hedge :-)
I have learned so much by watching your videos and I want to thank you for all the work you have done to show how to survive in the wilderness and I shall remember it and have save a few of your videos for later viewing.
Our local white cedar has different bark (smoother), and it grows in clumps more often than not. But the leaves look very similar. Your skills and knowledge are absolutely superlative. I am privileged to be able to learn from you. Thanks for sharing another great video Lilly, and congrats on 200k!
From the pictures of the green& the bark as well as the woods we refer to it as white cedar because of the wood colour. It ia good for fat wood or small kindling to start a fire It often shows up in damp places. Brian nearing 76
Hi Lilly The tree is called Eastern White Cedar. It is very abundant here in the eastern part of Canada and as you found out it makes one of the best bow drill sets.
+SurvivalLilly. I love you videos. I found a nice piece of cedar where I live in Kentucky. I plan on going to Mammoth Cave tomorrow to try a bow drill for the first time. Thank you so much for your great videos!
YAYYY!!! I admire your tenacity with the bow drill technique...keep going on the hand drill...and good to see ol' Dax lounging in the background...he's a peach of a dog...
we have lots of cedar here makes great kindling .when dry .full of natural oils .also hard on saws cutting it sucks up dirt from the ground very rot resistant. used her for decking will last for years with no stain. No a strong wood Very soft and light when dry.burns up fast and hot.
Great video! Cedar trees are really awesome for so many things. But are just awesome for bowdrills. I am not sure which type of cedar tree that is but it is surely a cedar.
I'm carrying in my medical pouch some potassium permanganate and some glycerin. In survival situation when it's colder than 21°C it's good to put little bit of both into a hearth board. It works awesome every time that I have tried.
Great video, great demonstration. I've just began to get to grips with the Bow Drill and got my first bow drill fire started on my latest video. But i'm always on the look out for other youtube channels who do Bow Drill videos for tips. I love your short, to-the-point videos. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Don't know exactly...but looks like what we call western cedar n US. Awesome videos as always..keep them coming. This cedar will always have a better bird's best from bark pieces fluffed up...repels water so much more than other bark & dries quicker also. Standing green western cedar generally is better at bowdrill than many other trees that r dead & dry. As always..awesome vids.
it looks like red ceder. we have them here as well. they do make great fire starters and but I would not use them to keep a fire going cause they do pop A LOT! ! it could cause a fire that you didn't wont. really like ur clips. be safe and enjoy nature when you can. :)
Hi there Lilly, nice work! always so satisfactory to get that fire from a bow drill. :-) As for the tree yeah I agree cedar were there any cones to further help identification? But guess you would have checked that. best wishes vee
Very Impressive. Thanks. I feel like you are unveiling the mysteries modern societies have lost. Poor Dax. I hope his limp is not serious. I know Dax is old and one of these days.... When it happens you have to get another dog friend because Dax is becoming your signature.
I have a question off topic of the video. It just occurred to me because you mentioned you were exploring. What measure do you take to keep at least someone informed about your whereabouts when your on your out in the woods alone? So in case you fall and are injured someone will eventually come looking for you?
Always jealous of cedar trees... have none of them in my biome, and they are just so versatile! A native Ojibwe elder taught me how to make cedar tea when I was young. Full of vitamin c and tastes great! Just be sure to not drink it constantly, as it has a mildly toxic element that can be bad in large doses. 1-2 cups a day max. :)
Way to go Lilly , The way I see it is that you can not really call yourself a woods man or survivalist until you can light a fire with a bow drill or any other primitive method. What do you think. And to that end I have not even tried it and I'm 50 yrs. old . hahaha. But I can tell you that the eastern white cedar is one of the best wood out there to build a fire with Bar none. So you know what I got to be doing next time out.
I can't be sure but from the photos I think you have a stand of White Cedar or Northern White Cedar. It would be much easier if you put up a picture of the cone. Port Orford white cedar was a favorite for arrow shafts so if you find a standing straight dead tree you might try carving arrow shafts from it. In my misbegotten youth a half century ago I used to be a cedar pirate in Oregon. Loggers left stands of it that they usually burned to kill it. after 100 years the wood still would not rot and people found it made great wood for boats and arrow shafts. We always took the wood from the high ground as we figured we get the lower stuff when we got older and didn't want to carry it as far. Ran the exhaust from the chain saw into a bucket of water as a silencer. Me and my partner gave up when cameras were used to track people on remote forest service roads.

Watching these videos is so relaxing.
I'm really struggling with the bow drill. You made it look so easy. I'm very impressed. Great job, Lilly.

Wow Lilly, you were not kidding, that wood is amazing! BUT wood is only one part of the equation, your skill finishes it! Great video!

well done. liked your tips. I'm hoping to make my first attempt soon.
I believe it's called white cedar, the oils in the wood is very flammable. I make the birds nest by scraping the back of my knife on the bark.
Good job!
Thanks - Martin
Thank you, this was well explained and filmed, very helpful!
Excellent find. What attitude are you at? I'm hoping to find similar species in Southern Sweden when we go this August.
Great video! Cedar trees are really awesome for so many things. But are just awesome for bowdrills. I am not sure which type of cedar tree that is but it is surely a cedar.
Here in Portugal that tree we call them "Cedro" and i think is a single specie! Good job with the bowdrill :)
The tree I think that you are using is cedar. The way the bark is peeling, that is what it looks like
yes it was cedar, thanks Tressa
I think you're going to make 200K this week! Good for you! You put alot of work in to get here! Good job, keep it up!
That looks so easy. I have to try that myself.
Well done, I like this classical method of getting the fire!
incredible ! Didn't see how to make the arch with the string in that video
I'm carrying in my medical pouch some potassium permanganate and some glycerin. In survival situation when it's colder than 21°C it's good to put little bit of both into a hearth board. It works awesome every time that I have tried.

Arbor Vitae? Something like that . We call them swamp cedars because they're usually found in wet areas.

I was wondering which knife you are using in this video? thanks for all the cool videos.
the inline skate wheel at around 4:30 must be to use as a pivot for the drill. good idea
+Cuda FX A little bit of cheating there. Good eye. Probably should work on doing it without using it.
Thanks for this vid Lilly, oh by the way, Dax is awesome and beautiful, truly one of the happiest dogs on utube. Love you're work mate.
Uploaded at midnight on the East Coast of Australia, the best time for a video haha
This is Mother cedar(western red cedar). She is known as the tree of life by the indigenous people of western North America.
it looks like red ceder. we have them here as well. they do make great fire starters and but I would not use them to keep a fire going cause they do pop A LOT! ! it could cause a fire that you didn't wont.

Hi Lilly, do you think you could make a video on making a water trap for fish and river crustaceans?
Hi there Lilly, nice work! always so satisfactory to get that fire from a bow drill. :-) As for the tree yeah I agree cedar were there any cones to further help identification? But guess you would have checked that. best wishes vee

If you don't have a skateboard wheel, what the best option?
What kind of dirtbike is that?

I was told that cedar is the best but I live in a desert. I don't want to go to the mountains every time I want to make a fire. Many woods work.
200k well done Lilly keep it up
