I spent a week in my uninsulated Sprinter when I first started my build traveling to Maine from Florida with just an electric heater in March . I was wearing shorts in Florida. When I got to Philadelphia it was freezing. I spent the night at a Walmart and not plugged in. No heat. I reached over and touched the 20 degree metal wall from my bed and it burned from the cold like dry ice. Pretty miserable. As soon as I returned home in Florida I ordered thinsulate and some foam board and an Espar diesel heater. Best thing I ever did.
I bought my van (completely bare) from a dealership, and moved into it that day. Been building it while living in it for the last 2 years. Not the smartest/easiest way to do it, but it was a necessity. I should be done in another year. :) Taking my first road trip in it this December, from Florida to Cali and back. Really enjoy your content.
An excellent choice of cordless tools, Tory. I started buying Ryobi tools when Home Depot first started carrying them. They were blue instead of lime green. The only Ryobi tool that has failed was their original blue 6 1/2 circular saw and that failure was my fault. I pushed it too hard cutting thick plywood with a dull blade. After the over-heating breaker shut it down about 3 times, it finally stopped resetting. For a DIYer there is no reason why you should pay twice as much for Milwaukee tools or 50% more for Dewalt.
Most people that have the water faucet uses a pull out sink they’re made out of plastic. They lay flat but you can get them pretty big bowl, dishes and things and it really works. I’m using a commercial kitchen sprayer and mine with a real terra-cotta sink. I love it.
Walmart heart tools there’s one for $65 with a rechargeable battery. It holds 5 gallons of water. This is what I use. I don’t put any plugs on the outside of my unit scared of people looking things up wrong or poison in the water. this is something I would talk about, all my hook ups are inside so I’m the only one that can get to it. This also adds to the stealth.
Hi Tory, An off-topic question. I live in my van and love your videos. I like to cook. Given a choice, pick one. Imusa, Le Cresuent, Cast Iron or a combination.
I would get an iPad for the apps leave it in the van, so where are generally located take it inside do your downloads on Wi-Fi you don’t have to have service on it. This would solve a lot of your problems. You can put all your apps on your iPad. leaving your phone free of this sort of thing.
There’s a guy name well who does solar on RUclips he’s into it big-time been doing it for years. He has a 3000 wife and Berger with a huge battery bank when you look at what you pay for yours compared to what he did that he recommends for which are doing lifestyle. His is a better deal all the way around.
After Thinking about it and watching a ton of videos. I'm also gonna go with the same anker power station, I feel like there's so many more pros than there are cons. Otherwise You have a ton of batteries taking up a lot of extra room, The fact that it's portable makes it just amazing, honestly its the way to go ❤
Hey Tory, hope you are excited to be hitting the road, I think your setup looks really cozy and Coda (hope I’m spelling it right!) is super cute by the way! 🐶❤️
Hello Tory, Gog Bless you on your new adventures, my heart breaks to see you out there struggling with electric power, and with all the power station's misleading crap they are a pain to keep charged the solo is slow, but they don't warn you 12v cigarette lighter plug=drains your car's battery, what they don't mention is that you really need is to be connected to your cars Alternator for fast recharge when the engine is running. Good ole Covid kicked my butt. I've been on Oxygen since 2021 and was given a backup GoZero Yeti 3000X for the compressor and C-pac. I have researched every unit and found that the GoZero is the only company with the vehicle’s alternator Connection cables that Switch the Yeti Link to “Car Mode” to start collecting power while on the move. in case you ever have a choice,
Okay Tory! Let’s get on the road! I’m still saving for my suv or van so I need to live vicariously through you for a while longer. (Likely through Spring or Summer) If you come down through Southeast Virginia please let me know. I no longer have property for boondockers but I have a washer/dryer, a shower, and always a hot meal ready to put on for anyone who is hungry! We’re having an “orphan’s thanks for existing”, on thanksgiving. You’re 100% welcome to join us if you hit the road by then. Will your kitty be traveling with you this time? I know you were trying to get them used to the van, how is that going? Regardless, safe travels! Stay warm! Have a Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it. Be blessed.
Worlds most beautiful van builder almost ready for take off You’ve got this Tory and remember we are with you every step every mile every everything ❤🏴🇺🇸😎
Power stations are the most expensive option. Charge slow at 100w from 12v. So this unit will take about 10hrs. DC chargers work well on vehicles to charge regular Lithium batteries. If any individual charge device fails like controller, charger etc you can replace it easily. Those power stations fail...good luck mailing for service
Thank you so much Jim! Definitely about to get reallll interesting 😅 I’m very excited to get back to making stealth camping videos though! They are so much fun & a great balance with all the building ☺️
Why do most people that live in a van not survive after a car accident? It’s all the stuff in the van comes forward at 40 miles or less you can die. It doesn’t have to be a high speed. This is some thing I would tell people I think you need a barrier between the back in the front to stop the stuff from hurting you.
Tory, your mother is wondering how the grandkids are coming along. 😮 I keed i keed You should sell feet & thigh pics for van supplies. Also, you definitely need to have more of it built out.
Anker are great, I love their small powerpacks and Soundcore ANC headphones, but agree about their love for apps! The one that comes with my headphones is fantastic in some ways, as it allows you to change the audio profile to suit different styles of music and personal preference, and even create your own custom profiles, but the standard sound without the app is not great - so even if you arent fussed sbout changing the profile often, you still need the app if you want the best possible sound. It's not the most egregious app by any means, and it does offer functionality you couldn't get without it (or an amplifier) but I wish they wouldnt gatekeep things like optimal charging or sound behind an app.
Also, heart has a multi charger takes similar looking batteries to your green tools, but there’s are much better boss. People don’t know it but the same company makes Hilty the red tool.
Brilliant as always 💚🤟 love those power Ankers the idea of having the upgraded battery options it's an Incredible Adventure... LoL you die when I'm gone 😅
Kota is adorable!! Hope you get the van walls insulated quick! Saw the Havelock boxes -- if that's what's really in them should be great. Ventilation? Am I forgetting or do you not have a vent system yet? Stay warm and well! Cheers!...from North Vancouver
For my build I researched electrical options for about a month and then decided to go with a portable power supply, totes agree with you about unnecessary apps....why? when buttons are a thing.
@@Billy-4 My conversion is for occasional use so a portable power supply can be used elsewhere + the amount of Victron type boxes permanent use vans seem to need (with apps to control them) didn't appeal.
You're right. It's probably enough to run a typical car refrigerator for about 24 hrs with enough left over for incidentals but no spare capacity for a day with little solar and no driving.
