She was a woman who set up a tavern in the Crimea to sell alcohol, food and home remedies to troops. She never once called herself a nurse. She was 1/4 black and 3/4 white. She never attempted to join nurses, because by her own admission she was not qualified medically.........Try reading her autobiography , it clearly tells you in her own words. A kind hearted woman, who was popular with the troops ....who displayed courage in providing comfort to wounded soldiers on the battle field, and was recognised for doing so in her time ........However, she was never a nurse, and she was never a pioneer medicine or nursing in anyway what so ever. Unfortunately , the tru Mary Seacole, has been replaced since the late 1980s by the myth of Mary Seacole

Have you read about Florence Nightingale as well? first trip to Crimea she was too sick and did nothing. The second chip, she was essentially an administrator of nurses and care, not a nurse would get anything to help patient. she was also a great advocate of imposing British culture on non-British people’s. Imposing Imposing means forcing. It’s too bad some people have tried to make up sort of a contest between the two like a great white hope scenario, but for nursing instead of boxing stupid

Mary Seacole and Florence were neither nurses because nurses as a medical occupation didn't exist, they were just both caring people who wanted to help and both began the recognition of what developed to being what we now know as a carer or nurse. So yes, people saying she wasn't a nurse are correct and is what this guy also states, if you listen.

Nightingale was a nurse. Seacole was a kindhearted women who set up a tavern to provide food, alcohol and home remedies to the troops. By her own words she never once claimed to be a nurse and never tried to apply to work with Nightingale. This is the myth that has arisen since the late 1980s. ....A great woman, adored by the troops, but certainly not a nurse

Mary Seacole was not a nurse. She ran a restaurant selling fine food and wine to officers who could afford her prices. That's the only reason she went to Crimea. She was never a nurse. Her own book, available on line for free, tells you that she was never a nurse, never applied to be one, never worked in a hospital. She only went to 3 battles and the only reason she went was to sell sandwiches and drinks to the spectators. She was not a nurse, she influenced nothing about nursing. Her own home made cures didn't work, they contained lead and mercury, she ended up poisoning people because she wasn't a nurse. She was a business owner. The only reason she went to London was to try to float the gold mine she had invested in Panama on the London stock exchange. This is clearly explained in her own words in her own book. In summary, Mary seacole was not a nurse.
