Shawn Porter your exactly right. Ryan reacted in the second like he had done in previous fights. Get aggressive and overwhelm his opponent to back them up into a defensive shell. Then tee off on them. I can't believe Ryan thought he could do that to Tank. By the time of the body shot Ryan had been dropped in the second. The fight wasn't going his way. You could see he was lost in there. He didn't have an answer when things went south. Therefore he found himself in a place he had never been before. And across from him was a savage who was determined to put him asleep. Tank new all along what was going to happen.
Tank kept telling Ryan," I'm gonna take you into deep water and drown you". "I'm gonna punish you". Ryan could see Tank was about to turn it up. Because of Tank's one punch power. You don't hear about his skills. But he can do it all exceptionally well. His boxing IQ is excellent. I give Ryan credit for jumping into the fire like that. The fight was good for boxing and it should happen more often.

It didn't even get to deep waters. The deep waters are rounds 10-12 (back in the day when I was growing up rounds 12-15(were the deep waters/Championship rounds.
Months before this fight was even made, I said Garcia wasn't ready yet. The first problem I saw was how bad he set his feet, which often left him off balance & flat footed when throwing a power shot and taking a shot.
I said he should've worked on that and waited Another year and three fights before he faced tank.
Ryan just wasn't technically sound enough for a fight like this. Meanwhile tank just is way more advanced than Ryan right now

@@bullydakidd2023 he wasn't speaking in that sense he was saying deep waters like I'm going to throw some shit at you from so many angles your going to feel lost he was going to overwhelm him and Ryan realized that that's why he just took the count he knew then his skills are nowhere near tanks but I think he's going to go on a tear he is the future face of boxing this fight was a great lesson for him

    • @bullydakidd2023
      @bullydakidd2023 Год назад +3

@@MichaelJohnson-rv9zv Want proof that it wasnt deep waters? Ryan got put down in the second round the same way he got put down to end the fight. He was coming forward throwing punches and walked into a hard punch. First time was square in the face, and second was clear to the body. So if he was knocked down making the same mistakes in round two as round seven, it was more technical mistakes(not balanced when throwing punches because his feet end up too close together and flat---I saw it in his previous fights) than tank taking him into deep waters
When Boxers have talk about Deep Waters they have talked about about taking their opponent into the late rounds where stamina is tested, you no longer have the same punching power you started the fight with, your initial game plan hasn't worked, you're potentially cut/swelling or feeling pain, and it becomes more mental than physical.
Ryan never got to that point. He simply was out skilled and as I stated, got caught with a hard shot because his feet were too close together and flat after he throws power punches.
You don't just anoint someone the "face of boxing". Especially after a loss. It's not like he won an Olympic Gold Medal or beaten a string of impressive boxers. You have to earn that title with Impressive wins. Garcia has technical flaws he has to work on. Does he want to put that work in to improve that?
For all we know Garcia could be out of boxing in a couple years. He did leave boxing for a year due to depression. And we just don't know how boxers will react when they have a million dollars in the bank. Like Marvelous Marvin Hagler once said "It's hard to get up out of bed to do roadwork at 5am in the morning when you're sleeping in silk pajamas"

All the testimonials, all the talk of it being a fifty-fifty fight, all the BELIEF, all the hype, all the hope, all the wish-casting... None of it was real. All the promotion and vested interests aside, Garcia is not an A level fighter. In terms of natural size, he'll be more comfortable at 140 or 147, but he'll run into even more of the same problems at those weights: There are at least 5 or 6 guys (per weight class) who are levels above him, talent-wise and IQ-wise, and up there, the competition's all bigger and stronger. There'll be no more walking down little, pudgy, over-the-hill Javier Fortuna types. Here on out, it just gets harder.

I agree. Garcia had no game plan for a southpaw. Tank was waiting for the left hook and kept a high guard to neutralize it. and Garcia should have been going to the body.

@Porter way Podcast Shawn I have to disagree with you when you say Ryan wasn't exposed. The reason being is I think this fight shows that Ryan doesn't have a high ring IQ, that he didn't mentally prepare or even have a game plan for this fight because first and foremost, he should have used his reach advantage and been aware of distancing to keep TANK at a range to allow him to set up his left hook before throwing it. Also, in my opinion his ability to make adjustments was exposed in my opinion and that was just to name a few.

The way the second round knockdown punch landed was why Ryan was not seriously hurt. It hit him straight into his front face (nose) and not across his chin or side of head. He did get hit hard. Luke Campbell hit him across the chin with his chin up in the hair so it's no surprise he was hurt more in that case.

Tank is great. But can we stop acting like Ryan is a great fighter? Everything he didn’t do in this fight, he has never done before. He is a linear fighter with mediocre footwork and head movement. Let’s get Tank against Haney, Loma, or Stevenson.

His whole stance changed as he leaned into Tank placing his face right in Tanks reach beckoning him to try it again. Ryan got knocked down but he played it perfect after getting back up showing Tank his punch was nothing! Watch it again!

I been hit there a few times in sparring. Same with so many other fighters. Sometimes I went down , other times I grabbed the boxer to stop him from swinging. Ryan ain't quit. Boxers been through that in the gym. Fear is a good thing some times. Fear can stop you from being brain dead by getting up and taking unnecessary punishment. And at the same time you can't hold your hands up to defend yourself.

  • @Knowledgehaspowerboxing

I believe fear will either paralyzes you or make you go even harder. That liver shot will paralyzes you. The 2 step back is classic with a body shot like that. In the amateur, it is said safety first. Ryan had to think about the longer term effects of the punishment he was about to endure

There's a lot of boxing talk that could be used but there's a basic explanation for why dude wasn't there after the knockdown....... His heart left with the knockdown, he's young and he doesn't have that "out on my shield " type of attitude.... if that young dude gets that fire in his spirit he's going to be a problem, shout out to both young kings....

Fear??? Please, he was hit in the liver which shuts down your body. Your rib cage protects your liver hence the late reaction (same happened when Garcia put Campbell down) - first the rib cage take the hit which then pushes onto the liver. Once the liver takes the hit, it shuts down the whole body despite how much you want to get up.

Shawn i agree 💯 percent with your comment that Ryan Garcia core was loose . If you look at the body shot , when they separate Ryan's oblique stomach muscles and ab muscles where not tenched up especially the oblique on the right side . He did not anticipate the shot , and although the blow might not have been full power i think because of the obliques not tenched up the effect is just as devastating as a full power shot . Fortunately technology gives us the chance to look at it over and over , in real time you can't see that . People are to quick to juge , he did not quit .

Ryan was hurt but not that hurt to stay down, but Ryan was smart enough to stay down. Only because after Tank gave that blow to Ryan's stomach, Tank wasn't letting up not even for an inch. Tank was coming in even hotter and faster for the real big kill and Ryan Garcia knew that he couldn't stop Tank from delivering and so he took a knee. It's no need to fool yourself and get your dam head knocked off trying to impress your fans. Smart move Ryan and much respect keep your head up 👊🏿💯💣💥🔥
