Man, Murakami has to be one of the coolest anime characters that I ever seen. Not only does he survive attacks from chronos with only using a small amount of his power and only using the full weight of it when he needs too. Another thing I like about him is that his coolness feels organic. He's not trying to be a bad ass to impress people, he's doing it in order to survive.

What's sad is that this anime never really gets true respect. As far as I know this was one of the first anime made into a live-action film with a theatrical release, specifically for western audiences. The film had American actors, including Mark Hamil and David Hayter' and were made 20-25 years ago. Even though they were both kinda hammy, this anime and its live-action versions probably had a hand in putting anime into the mainstream of the US.
The ones that truly played a role in the popularity spike of anime are Fist of The North Star, Akira & Dragon Ball. Not saying the anime or movie aren't praise worthy, but you ask anyone alive today who witnessed these shows upon air- more often than not will name those 3 as their original anime.

It may be nothing but a personal view, but I remember not knowing anybody who knew what anime was, then Ninja Scroll came out, and all of a sudden I'm hearing people excitedly talk about this cool ninja anime. Soon afterwards I had people asking me if I'd ever heard of anime. It was an interesting time.

I remember watching part of this series 20 odd years ago and renting it from Blockbuster after my younger brothers and I loved the 2nd movie. The only blight in my mind is the God awful 1st movie.

Also the blood. They didn't give a fuck! Nowadays everything is super shiny, no blood whatsoever because they want to attract a young audience as well or show it early on TV channels. Aptom fires an upgraded version of the bio blaster and guyver 1 fires the megasmasher and over takes it lol I love guyver enough to not need to make comparisons especially false ones lol I love fighting and explosions too hence why I love guyver as well lol
The music for the OVA was kickass. I wish they had continued adapting the manga further. The 2005 version was cool but this art style, VA dub and music has a special place in my heart.
This anime was awesome. The second OVA (Yes, this ova series is technically two parts. It was known as Guyver II in japan) was not as strong as the first but it was still cool to watch, it's a shame that it ended so abruptly though.

My mate leant me the full run of this on VHS when I was a teen. Can't remember it very well but it was great! Always remembered how Guyver held a monsters arms back and the monster randomly projectile vomit blood! Don't make 'em like that anymore!
The Bioboosted Armor, which came to America maybe 10 years agi, follows the comics way more directly. Unfortunetly, much like the Manga, there was an American Hiatus... but unlike the comics, at least the anime left it on a happier note
I recognize that you're entitled to your opinion, but this is RUclips, so the comments are kind of irrelevant, my own included... This series is terrible. I mean it gets everything *exactly* wrong. The pacing, the characterization, the villains.... even the action is only good for one or two scenes before the complete and utter lack of any real tension completely sinks my investment. The villains never posed a threat. They're all one-note bullies who get chopped up so regularly, I start to root for them out of sheer spite. "It'll kill him!" is the real nail in the coffin. We have to be TOLD that the enzyme II is a threat, because there's no way in Hell anyone in the audience would think that.
Eh, Fist of the North Star is pretty neck to neck with Guyver and to some people is the greatest anime to come out in its time. Unfortunately Guyver never was made as a video game, which would've been epic. Fist of the North Star got 2 games, Kens Rage was made to be based off the anime, Kens Rages 2 was derived from the original manga. I like both equally, but FOTNS has been given proper comebacks, where Guyver got screwed in that aspect
john1120 with the Guyver game it should be more like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden where enemies are actually a threat unlike the FotNS which took the Dynasty Warriors approach. I know that the Guyver - like Ken - can lay waste to his enemies without breaking a sweat but I still want a challenge factor in my games and enemies should be quality over quantity.

Agree. Season 2 introduced some cool stuff (at least I thought it was cool at the time) but the animation was atrocious compared to the first season, making it virtually unwatchable.
I remember taking shots in college with an manga fan roommate every time the guy screamed "SHOU!!!!" I can't remember much of this series for the most part thanks to that game we played.
I will say, while I didn't like the first half of the reboot series much, the second half at times was manga-perfect and better than this OVAs second half. This scene was solid though.
What happened to such glorious animation? It just drips with personality and the hard work the animators put forth. These days everything feels so mechanical. Even the good ones... this is unmistakable.

Anime and OVA’s and still not done. Oh yea and 2 American Guyver live action films. First one has fucking Jay Jay from Good Tomes in it with Luke Skywalker/The Joker and the second has the guy that voices Solid Snake in it.
That's sad to here man :/ Does it end with a major cliffhanger? Any known reasons for that? Got it cancelled or is the Author sick/dead or otherwise unable to continue? My personal favorite Shaman King had similair problems. Author was sick and unable to finish the story for 10 years, concluding the story with a couple rushed final chapters that try to wrap everything up but still they were never been released outside of japan to this day.

Good old time. except Murakami was failed Zoa Lord. Guyvers are bunch of kids who happened to have alien weapon. Even Enzyme or Enzyme 2 are guyver's nemisis, if user was good, it would all be for nothing. Sure, any damage from them would take a lot longer to heal but guyver in general is much superior weapon. They can just keep distance and blast them away but no, these idiot kids want to slice them with their blade and punch them to death. Stupid beyond word.. It's too bad, author of this manga either gave up on series or not in condition to make any more. Last time I checked manga, pretty much all Zoa Lords are wiped out by mysterious enemy who collects zoa crystal(the one on zoa lord's forehead) and guyver had ability to call bigger guyver. Makashima acquired giant guyver that can overpower even zoa lord and Sho acquired guyver beyond that(50m tall). lol. I wonder what happened after that.
Back then we would see enemies torn apart and no one would blink. And we turned out ok. These days, dumb plots, even dumber characters, the age ratings and the 3D technology have ruined animation.
Tbf old anime had just as much shitty characters and plots like new anime. It's not that 3D tech ruined it, it's the fact people are lazy with it for the most part. If you watch an anime like Drifters you can tell they actually put effort into the anime with the 3D tech you hate so much.

Ruben Ramirez - It's called "The Guyver: Bio Booster Armor". This is the series that was released in '89. They remade it in 2010. Both are worth checking out if you have the time?
The animation looks great in design and detail, but this feels lower even for the standard anime frame rate. Watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball looks way more smooth. Even the pan zooms and pan zoom outs are jarring in this. I know back then the animation process was even more lengthy and a process compared to now.

My mate leant me the full run of this on VHS when I was a teen. Can't remember it very well but it was great! Always remembered how Guyver held a monsters arms back and the monster randomly projectile vomit blood!

The Bioboosted Armor, which came to America maybe 10 years agi, follows the comics way more directly. Unfortunetly, much like the Manga, there was an American Hiatus... but unlike the comics, at least the anime left it on a happier note
I recognize that you're entitled to your opinion, but this is RUclips, so the comments are kind of irrelevant, my own included...
This series is terrible. I mean it gets everything *exactly* wrong. The pacing, the characterization, the villains.... even the action is only good for one or two scenes before the complete and utter lack of any real tension completely sinks my investment. The villains never posed a threat. They're all one-note bullies who get chopped up so regularly, I start to root for them out of sheer spite.
"It'll kill him!" is the real nail in the coffin. We have to be TOLD that the enzyme II is a threat, because there's no way in Hell anyone in the audience would think that.

Nothing beats the Guyver series.
Eh, Fist of the North Star is pretty neck to neck with Guyver and to some people is the greatest anime to come out in its time. Unfortunately Guyver never was made as a video game, which would've been epic. Fist of the North Star got 2 games, Kens Rage was made to be based off the anime, Kens Rages 2 was derived from the original manga. I like both equally, but FOTNS has been given proper comebacks, where Guyver got screwed in that aspect

FotNS was pretty good yeah, but it lacks that monster design that Guyver has.
john1120 with the Guyver game it should be more like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden where enemies are actually a threat unlike the FotNS which took the Dynasty Warriors approach. I know that the Guyver - like Ken - can lay waste to his enemies without breaking a sweat but I still want a challenge factor in my games and enemies should be quality over quantity.
Demon Dethchase if they made a guyver game they have a shit load of pleasing to do for the fans.

What sucks is season 2 of Guyver had really shitty animation compared to the first season. As good as this scene was, it looks like a load of shit in comparison. Unfortunately.
Not a fan of the repeat animation in this scene to start whit not to mention the second half.. But the Guyver was cool none the less.
Agree. Season 2 introduced some cool stuff (at least I thought it was cool at the time) but the animation was atrocious compared to the first season, making it virtually unwatchable.

I can't remember much of this series for the most part thanks to that game we played.
I will say, while I didn't like the first half of the reboot series much, the second half at times was manga-perfect and better than this OVAs second half.

KarukaKuroichi It’s a good series but the original, reboot, and manga never been finished. I’m 33 now and this shit still doesn’t have an ending. Original came out in the 80’s. Anime and OVA’s and still not done. Oh yea and 2 American Guyver live action films. First one has fucking Jay Jay from Good Tomes in it with Luke Skywalker/The Joker and the second has the guy that voices Solid Snake in it.
That's sad to here man :/ Does it end with a major cliffhanger? Any known reasons for that? Got it cancelled or is the Author sick/dead or otherwise unable to continue? My personal favorite Shaman King had similair problems. Author was sick and unable to finish the story for 10 years, concluding the story with a couple rushed final chapters that try to wrap everything up but still they were never been released outside of japan to this day.
KarukaKuroichi just got cancelled. The author still living. Would’ve been cool to have seen how this series would’ve ended. Maybe someday before the author dies.

Good old time. except Murakami was failed Zoa Lord. Guyvers are bunch of kids who happened to have alien weapon. Even Enzyme or Enzyme 2 are guyver's nemisis, if user was good, it would all be for nothing. Sure, any damage from them would take a lot longer to heal but guyver in general is much superior weapon. They can just keep distance and blast them away but no, these idiot kids want to slice them with their blade and punch them to death. Stupid beyond word..
It's too bad, author of this manga either gave up on series or not in condition to make any more. Last time I checked manga, pretty much all Zoa Lords are wiped out by mysterious enemy who collects zoa crystal(the one on zoa lord's forehead) and guyver had ability to call bigger guyver. Makashima acquired giant guyver that can overpower even zoa lord and Sho acquired guyver beyond that(50m tall). lol. I wonder what happened after that.

People really, *really* need to look up Guyver. It's fantastically drawn and the plot is awesone. Even if the manga is doomed never to end.
Back then we would see enemies torn apart and no one would blink. And we turned out ok.
These days, dumb plots, even dumber characters, the age ratings and the 3D technology have ruined animation.
Tbf old anime had just as much shitty characters and plots like new anime.
It's not that 3D tech ruined it, it's the fact people are lazy with it for the most part. If you watch an anime like Drifters you can tell they actually put effort into the anime with the 3D tech you hate so much.

Ruben Ramirez - It's called "The Guyver: Bio Booster Armor". This is the series that was released in '89. They remade it in 2010. Both are worth checking out if you have the time?

The animation looks great in design and detail, but this feels lower even for the standard anime frame rate. Watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball looks way more smooth. Even the pan zooms and pan zoom outs are jarring in this. I know back then the animation process was even more lengthy and a process compared to now.
Dub was horrendous but I love the designs transformations and fights
