I want to be a developmental editor and a copy editor at the same time. Both sound so enjoyable to me.
You're making me so nervous with the coffee! I can't stop staring at it to see if the coffee spills!
Definitely have to be careful with developmental editing. I've come across situations where I teetered the line of editor and author. It's not that the work is terrible and needs a ton of fixing, it's that certain ideas or sections are incomplete. My best advice as an amateur editor: Before you roll your ball into D.E. court, mark your where line is of assisting vs creating.
"A writer is the creator, the one who makes everything come to life. The editor is the overseer, the one who makes everything work."
Hopefully the quote doesn't come off as overly cheesy or confusing haha!
GREAT insight. Thanks for sharing this!
Absolutely true!
I would like to give Develompental Edit, it really sounds like fun work
i know I'm quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to watch new movies online?
@Baylor Alejandro I watch on Flixzone. Just google for it =)
I'm researching and studying editing to edit my own books. I finished the rough draft, and now am making a system for editing that I can reuse. I'm on my 9th page of notes currently.
Pretty much what I want to offer. I want to do developmental editing before I work on copyediting (that C17 book is so big). I've done it as a side hobby for a friend for years that I thought it'd be best to expand it. Just need to look for, or hear from, the first author to work with.
That's awesome! I would still use the Chicago Manual as a guide for dev editors, but yes! That's exciting!
There is so much about editing i don't know,it must be a hard job really but without editing then books would not be that more enjoyable or even readable
Learning how to do it right now.
Thank you for breaking it down
Huh. Well now I know I'm a dev editor more than anything else! Thank you for this video :)
Do you have any recommendations for a development editor
Such a helpful video, thank you!
