Why not? It’s not worth the police officer getting charged with a crime for handling a criminal wrong. Especially with Gascon in charge. So Gascon can turn around and release him 20 min. After being arrested. Not worth years of court proceedings to prove that the officer was justified in the handling of a criminal. I'm lost...I got here late, but if he's suspected of kidnapping why didn't they grab him when he came out of his vehicle? And why didn't they secure his vehicle and search it to make sure no victim or weapons were inside? Then they allow him to get back in the vehicle and wait for some special equipment to arrive. Now there's no kidnapping, so they will charge an innocent person with evading arrest to cover their azzes. They created a crime it seems. This is some insane way to deal with a basically innocent person. Who would want to get out if he's innocent of initial crime and thinks they're trying to kill him?
I saw a guy who'd been in a single vehicle accident get killed on a video earlier for a traffic accident. Also a guy who was stopped for a dirty license plate but the cop had no trouble calling in the plate number to run a check. Cop approached his vehicle with gun drawn and screaming, pulled man out and tased him twice, found no offense except for dirty plate that he was actually able to read but charged him with evading arrest, resisting arrest and none of it was true. They dragged him to jail and he lost his job. They dropped the charges and ended up paying $175,000 for the ridiculous episode. Next one was completely compliant man that cop claimed had an illegal tag. Driver said his tag was legal and he had all his paperwork. They didn't believe him or verify computer check which is protocol, but yelled for him to get on the ground. He's on his knees with hands in the air when they release a canine on him who bites his arm a couple good bites. Then cops find out computer made a mistake and guy was completely legal, but they arrest him anyway.
