When listening to Koops music it's somehow easy to believe that it's played by a small orchestra, but in fact the music is based on samples. Thousands of small clips from records puzzled together into new songs. All the drums, strings, horn sections and choires are actually sampled! This is a very time consuming way to make music (it's one of the reasons it takes such long time to make a koop album), but it's the only way to create the surreal Koop sound. One thing though, that for sure aren't sampled, is the vocals. Many singers has blessed the Koop albums with their talent, and on Koop Islands the singers are : Ane Brun, Yukimi Nagano, Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Rob Gallagher and Mikael Sundin. Summer Sun is sung by Yukimi Nagano and is taken from the album "Waltz for Koop" (2002).

Bellissima atmosfera
Lovely early -60s inspired song (the brass riff echoes "Milestones" and the rhythm tracks are very 1960s bossa-nova too). It's clearly a retro piece but dang, it carries it with grace, and still sounds fresh. :)

Story.... I heard this song sometime prior to 2003 being played at Barns & Nobel book store. I had no idea who or what it was, but I loved it. I never heard it again, but I never forgot the sound of it. Til last week. I'm in a diner, it starts playing. I immediately recognized it, and whipped out my phone to let Google hear it, and identify it.

Koop: One of the best musical works to appear in recent times. This song, in special, is fabulous. We need more song than this.

I first came across this through Moby’s MTV special back in 2001 and it has been with me ever since. I was 21 then, I’m 43 now and still listening to this gorgeous tune.

The sounds may be skillfully sampled, but whoever did the video transition shapes deserves recognition. It's now 2023 and I have yet to see better. I playlisted this when it came out.

First time I heard this (albeit a remixed version) I was sitting in a Cafe in Frankfurt Germany almost 20 years ago. I immediately got up and asked one of the workers what what the record was, when I got back home in the states i immediately got the complication CD I heard it on!
edit: it was the Marcus Enoch something or another remix I heard sitting in the Cafe. I found it. lol

Yukimi here is spot on in pitch and timing this Swedish electronic jazz group has a very unique sound for modern jazz with yet in my view? A hint they could actually cross over to some very cool cover work on some traditional standard jazz music. I would go so far as to say they would nail a couple tunes. Kudos to this great modern electronic jazz band and the lovely lady singing incredible on this very smooth tune. Ciao.
