Koop is Oscar Simonsson & Magnus Zingmark.
When listening to Koops music it's somehow easy to believe that it's played by a small orchestra, but in fact the music is based on samples. Thousands of small clips from records puzzled together into new songs. All the drums, strings, horn sections and choires are actually sampled! This is a very time consuming way to make music (it's one of the reasons it takes such long time to make a koop album), but it's the only way to create the surreal Koop sound. One thing though, that for sure aren't sampled, is the vocals. Many singers has blessed the Koop albums with their talent, and on Koop Islands the singers are : Ane Brun, Yukimi Nagano, Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Rob Gallagher and Mikael Sundin. Koop Island Blues is sung by Ane Brun and is taken from the album "Koop Islands".
JF Julian directed the video in Paris. Starring french actor Mia Jacob.

Koop is probably my favorite mysterious group of all time. They have (I believe) only 3 albums, 2 of which are timeless masterpieces: Waltz for Koop (2001), Koop Islands (2006). After releasing a greatest hits in 2007 called Coup De Grace (which translates to deathblow or mercy killing), along with one new track called Strange Love, they vanish, never to be heard from again.
While I'll always hope for new music from these guys, if they never return, I'll forever regard them as the duo who gifted us with 2 modern jazz classics. Almost 2 decades later, these albums have not aged one bit.

Oscar Simonsson has started his own project up recently. Koop Oscar Orchestra. Still no music to be found, a few snippets of live gigs. Were about to start hitting the scene again, then Covid happened...
I fell in love with this song in 2007 after an awful experience I was 16, I am 30 now and I still get the same feelings when I listen to it. Its magic this song

It's how specific concepts exist in a language but can't be translated into another, this feeling cant be explained with words. my parents loved this song, and i mean adored it. every car ride up until i was about 9 or 10 had this playing. they grew out of it and i forgot. a few weeks ago i was watching breaking bad with some friends and this song is faintly playing in the background of Elliott and Gretchen's party scene. i immediately recognized it. i played it on my phone when we went out for a smoke and i still knew it by heart, its one of my favorites

Me and my lover are high school sweet hearts, we’ve gone through the same schools but never crossed paths till our senior year. Although college rolled around we chose to stick by each others side and gone through a whole year of long distance. With the help of her being able to visit from time to time it gave us the silver lining. Sadly, this year I could feel a serious change in tone and we might not make it through this time.
