I used to do this using the google translate app, but the one you showed here today is more effective. Thanks a lot Luca, I love your tips and the effort you make to bring the best to all of us!!

I'm curious how it's more effective than the same apparent functionality in Google Translate? Don't they use the same basic "engine"?

Great advice! I use this too, but I usually open it through Google translate - it’s available there too, again through a camera icon. Thanks for sharing 😊

I really like using kindle with a dictionary built in. You can just hold down on the word and it will open it in the dictionary that you have installed. You can also translate words (or sentences) in this same way. Also the dictionary can be downloaded so can also be used offline. The best part though is that there is also a function that saves all the words you have looked up in a list and you can go back through them with the dictionary, and it also saves the sentence(s) they appeared in when you looked it up.

    • @LucaLampariello

I use Kindle as well and all those functions are great!

    • @oh-noe

If you use an apple device, there’s a dictionary built into the selection tool. It will use one or many dictionaries set up in settings. It’s the same as the kindle one, just hold down on any word, even if it’s inside this RUclips video, I can just hold down the word I want, click search and it will give me dictionary definition of all the words I want + web search.
It’s just so convenient that it works on so much, text, pictures, videos, etc.

That's a great thing 👍 I've been practicing this kind of reading for years, but usually I prepare audios and PDFs in both target and native language (or other language I want the text to be translated into). There are a lot of advantages, first and foremost is that you can listen to a professional audiobook narrator. I like this kind of reading, it helps develop reading and listening comprehension at the same time. My favorite. Thank you 👍

Thanks for the fantastic tip Luca! I myself have never thought of it this way.
What I have done in the past is to use OCR (optical character recognition) to scan in text of a book and then drag it into LingQ and study it. But it is also slightly laborious.
Nonetheless it is a great time to be a language learner with all these technologies available to us.

I think it can also be really helpful when traveling. Imagine stopping in a restaurant and seeing the menu is only in the foreign language. You can use this app to scan the menu and then have a good idea what you are ordering so you don't end up with a pizza with a raw egg in it unless that is what you really wanted.
