This era will have to be adjusted for, but still I agree with Kobe when a reporter once asked him about Wilt, yeah maybe the dudes were a bit shorter and less athletic, but 100 points is still 100 points. A 50 point game is no longer what it used to be though, that's for sure.

Hand check still exist in today's nba and refs never call it, but with all the ball movement, screens, off ball movement and better handles it will not change anything. Giannis and Luka still average 30 in the FIBA rules anyway, same for KD or Melo, SGA was a beast even under FIBA rules. KAT did his things in the world cuptoo. Players nowadays are way too good nowadays

Luka had 65 points with 10 minutes remaining in the 4th. If Hawks didn't double him every time he cross the half court in the 4th he probably would have surpassed Kobe's 81. There's were even instances that Hawks doubled Luka before he cross the half court even Hawk's commentator Dominique Wilkins keep saying double Luka it's almost like he is Coaching. LOL.

poor HAWKS, they seem to be the team all the white players like to light up. Bird went for 60 on them, back in the day, and now Luka with 73 against them.
Take no credit away from this amazing performance by Luka. He was absolutely on fire all night. But those 73 could have been closer to 53 IF the Hawks woul dhave adjusted their help defense. The NBA has turned very soft. It used to be a mans league, now it's a league of kids who don't care about playing defense but only shooting 3's.
Watch the Clippers defense on Robinson 70 pt, or watch the defense on David Thompson performance, or even on Shaq 61 pts performance, the best performance has always been against bad defense nothing new, you just listened too much narratives instead of actually watching games

Anyway I do get your point and agree that most high scoring performances even years ago also were against bad defence. That being said, we see these offensive eruptions way more often now, including entire teams. The average NBA team scores over 20 ppg more than two decades ago. That is not only due to better offensive talent or rule changing. Many players just don't care about defending anymore.

This is getting ridiculous. You can't punish the guys who play defense and do the little things because they already don't get the highlights, so they need a greater chance of victory to even have a reason to be there. And without them, the moral appeal of the game is lost, since you don't reward the unsexy hard work. All that will be left are chuckers who stand around on the other end, and we saw what that did to the ratings for the All-Star game.
