    I believe Kawasaki markets this bike towards riders who are like me (which is why I own one): 50+ years old, decent income, riding for decades, no longer interested in 0-60 times, but still wants enough pep to be reminded it’s a liter bike. An older rider who wants comfort & convenience like a neutral riding position, wind protection, hard cases, center stand, cruise, heated grips, and enough electronic gizmos to keep anyone occupied. The only place they missed the mark is the chain drive. Give it a shaft and I’d call this bike perfect.

    • @ghostontwowheels
      @ghostontwowheels  Год назад +4

      Some good points. I would like a shaft drive someday perhaps so I don't have to clean the chain every so often, however, chain drives give you the least amount of power loss from the transmission to the rear wheel (friction, etc). Plus, not terrible to maintain and replace. I give it another 10-15 years then perhaps I will be hunting that shaft drive! lol Of course... might be eligible for a Goldwing at that point. Thanks for checking out the video. Versys is a great platform!

      My thoughts exactly! I came back to biking after 30 years away at age 64. My last bike was a Suzuki GS850 - four cylinders and shaft drive, perfect for long distance touring. But that combination just isn’t available now.
      After a lot of test rides on different bikes, I realised that I wanted four Japanese cylinders more than a shaft drive, so the Versys 1000 SE GT was the logical choice. But if only one of the Japanese makers would make a retro GS 850….

    • @priestharis1565
      @priestharis1565 7 месяцев назад +2

      But if chain fails (i've been riding almost 25 years chain supersports and a chain mever failed me) you can change it all around the world, in every low budget bike shop! But if a shaft fails... that's it. You're done! So my vote is for chains.

    As a current Tracer 9 GT owner. Ever you said about it checks out. But, when I was looking for a bike I knew I wanted a Yamaha, the CP3 power plant, and a bike my wife could ride on. And since Yamaha doesn’t make a Tenere 900…yet, looking at you Yamaha 👀, my option was clear. As a “shorter” rider I like that the bike feels small while having the touring potential. I’ve got a 1500-mile trip coming up in August. So I guess we will see how it handles the highways and hills from North Texas to Colorado.

    Love this bike. Driving bikes the last 27 year. Have the 2022 Versys SE and by God it's so comfortable. Never broken up after 4 hour plus journeys . I am 5 foot 10 and destroyed my ACL 2 years ago so I decided to get the lower seat as I prefer to flat foot the bike. 50/50 on the looks of the bike but the reliability of Kaswaki engine is what made me buy. Safe driving all👍👍👍👍

    Everyone talks about how heavy this bike is, but getting off of my FJR1300 and throwing a leg over this and it seemed amazingly light to me. Also have a Goldwing and it's heavy too. Love that this has cruise control and a center stand. Don't care for the chain drive, but that is a small inconvenience and with the center stand chain maintenance is a lot easier. I used to have a Honda Africa twin and felt a lot heavier. I found an exceptional deal on one and am thinking hard about it.

    Total agreement. I traded my 650 in January for a 2022 1000. Nimble as all get out. For a tall somewhat heavier bike, it does amazingly well in the handling department. When I do my parking lot drills, the figure 8s aren’t all that bad. I can throw the bike around at aggressive angles in this drill and it feels stable and hunkered down. Like you said, one word to describe it would be smoooooth. Very smooth in acceleration and shifting. And absolutely without a doubt so damn comfortable. I am 6 foot 5 and it fits and feels amazing. I will NEVER get rid of this bike. Fits and function is too perfect. Nice video.

      @@rival989 That is awesome. I am in TX and ride year round as well. Of note, the stock windshield doesn’t cut the mustard for wind buffeting. I ordered a clip on extender and it works perfect. I had previously ordered the Puig and it didn’t get the job done. With the clip on extender, the total height measurement to cover my tall upper body actually exceeds the total height measurement of the Kawasaki aftermarket extended version. Bottom line, for me, the clip on gets the job done…..cheaper too. You might want to experiment with that first.
      Enjoy that awesome 1000.

    G'day Ghost. I have always liked the newer designed big Versys. The ergonomics on this bike certainly fit me as I am very similiar height and frame wise as yourself. Definitely a comfortable and capable bike for the road. I currently own a 2017 Yamaha fjr1300 and it is fitted with pretty well the same electronic features that the Kwaka has, give or take a couple of things. That inline 4 motor(same as the Kwaka), is as smooth as butter, and I really appreciate that these days. Now in my mid 60's, comfort comes before outright speed. If I had to replace the fjr, I would seriously consider the Verysy 1000 SE. Really enjoyed the content mate so consider me subscribed and I look forward to following along with you on your rides. Stay safe from Australia brother.

    Lovely bike, I have a 2020 SE Grand Tourer. I would recommend fitting the Kawasaki radiator guard. Not too expensive, and if you are doing some serious touring, it’s nice to know a rock isn’t going to ruin your day. I also fitted a front fender extender from R&G, which was a 10 minute job, and the Michelin tyre pressure monitoring system, again very easy. Enjoy your travels!

    Got my 2019 back in August of 2019 during a sale. Paid $3000 less than asking price for it. Brand new. I've put over 9000 miles on mine and love every minute of it. ZERO problems. I've owned everything from Yamaha 600's, 1000's , etc... In the 30 years I've been riding this is by far my favorite motorcycle. It's just great. My neighbor has the FJR1300 and that was my first choice until I found the Versys... I've ridden both and the Concourse and I'd still pick the Versys. Kawasaki put the radar cruise control on the H2SX this year and blind spot monitoring... so hopefully next years they add it to the Versys. That would be the only reason I'd upgrade... and even then I probably would just keep my trusty Versys.
    BTW.. I live just north of Daytona but i grew up in GA and lived in Lawrenceville as well.

    • @ghostontwowheels
      @ghostontwowheels  Год назад +1

      Nice! Yeah, I agree that the Versys is becoming one of their flagship models and should have the radar and such before too long. But I think the MSRP is just a bit high, but as you said you got it for under asking, so did I. I don't think anything major has changed since the 2019 upgrade, so it's probably due for a little refresh in the next couple years. But yeah, for now this bike fits my needs for the foreseeable future. I'm sure in 5 years I'll be drooling over something else, but hey, that's the life of a motorcyclist, right??? Thanks for checking out the video! Ride safe!

    Enjoyed the video, thank you. I watched your video on the Ninja 1000sx and would appreciate your comments as to comparing the ergonomics to include wind protection and just the "fun factor" of the ride. My riding is mostly limited to short commutes and I'm about 5'9" in height. Thank you for your help as I try to determine what bike is best for me.

    • @ghostontwowheels
      @ghostontwowheels  Год назад +3

      Fun factor is a little subjective, but the Ninja may be little more fun if you're looking at the sport riding aspect of it. Ergonomically the Versys is more upright and will have increased comfort over longer distances, but it's fun as well! Versys also has a much bigger windscreen, so wind is not an issue there. The Ninja may be what you need honestly if you're doing short commutes, and it's a little shorter seat height. also, the MSRP it costs less. Versys has things like heated grips, electronic suspension, but that's more suited to the longer trips, or year-round riding (heated grips in winter time is awesome!). But again, the Ninja is not bad as far as comfort, it's just the V is a little more comfortable and what I like. Though they have the same engine, the Ninja is tuned to have about 20 more HP than the Versys, so it's definitely more sporty. I'd say go sit on both if you can, test ride even better, but I'm leaning toward the Ninja 1000 for you. Again, it's subjective and it's your choice!! Good luck!

      Yeah, I was afraid it would be a bit too heavy as well. While you feel the weight if you're pushing the bike around, it doesn't feel as heavy when you're on it. I think the inline 4, obviously weighing more, and sitting a little lower than the 650 engine makes the center of gravity lower, and doesn't feel heavier when you're moving. If you're comfortable getting your feet down on the 650, should be OK on the 1000, but certainly test it out to know for sure. That inline 4 is so smooth and great for knocking out some distance! I also have a Versys 650. And also have the doubt regarding the upgrade. For a strictly road bike, I agree with the review. However, to have more flexibility, could a Tiger 900 GT or a Tracer 9 GT be a better option? Tracer 9 more agile, more flexible more light for off-road if necessary and Tiger 900 clearly the most versatile adventure bike/tourer.
    Also agree with the BMW comments. I mean they are great if you lease it but buying it, I never understood what goes wrong in the head of people that actually buy BMW motorcycles.

      Didn't know you could lease BMW, but of course, that would be a BMW thing! ha! The Tiger would certainly be a better option for off-road, especially the Rally version (which of course is designed for off road). The Tracer, while being a little lighter, I would say is still a road bike. I mean, you can take any bike off road, including the Versys. But again, with my wonderful experience of the 650, I stay on pavement, and a killer deal on this bike, it was an obvious choice for me! But, to your point if I was more considering some off-road usage I would've given more consideration to the Tiger.

    • @ghostontwowheels
      @ghostontwowheels  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Julie! I think your analysis is right on. The con for the Ducati will be maintenance cost over time, and the Versys is more than 100 pounds heavier. Of course, once you're at speed the weight goes away. I haven't ridden the V2S, but based on the stats it may be a little more approachable with the lower weight and I think it has a lower seat option. The Versys may be better on the higher for longer distances, as the 4 cylinder will be smoother and won't need to rev as high for highway travel. The V2S will handle highways no problem, but may get a little buzzer over time. Maybe not though. I don't think you can go wrong with either bike as far as performance. The Ducati will have a little more "peppy" response I would imagine, and the Versys is more linear/smoother power. All that to say if I had to choose for you I'd lean to the Ducati, but go sit on both if you haven't already, get a feel for the bike, how you can get your feet down, etc. Then it may come down to cost. Good luck! Let me know which one you get!

If you push too hard, it can get dicy.

      $17,637 out the door for a new 2021 isn't bad, though depending on where you are there might be some a little lower price, however there's not been any significant updates in the last couple years so you're not missing out on anything either by getting a 2021 over a 2023. So, again, if that's in your budget, and it's "your dealer" where you can get it serviced, etc, may be worth just sticking with that to build the relationship. If you can find it for a few thousand less somewhere else, then do that, but when you're talking bikes in this price range if it's within a $1000 I think it's best to buy close by where you'd get it serviced.
      I think the valve adjustments are at 15K miles. I'm just at 5,000 so I've got a little ways to go. Seems pretty standard.

      It's a big ole can! I had the 650 before and I really liked the clean look of those underneath exhaust, but in a way I'm kind of okay with the current one though. Almost like it's a display of the power it has. I dunno. But I'm not spending money replacing that, retuning, etc. So it's all good. Thanks for checking out the video!

    120hp...
    They really should have tuned it at least another 20hp. Great bike, but motor abit boring. And I own the 2018 model from new

      Maybe, but if you're really look for the bump in HP the Ninja 1000 is tuned for just that with 140 HP for a little more sport with the touring. Versys is a little more chill, but a lot more comfortable. For me, in 90% of how I ride, I'll sacrifice a few ponies for the comfortable ride. Thank for checking out the video!

    Engineering wise, Kawasaki is far ahead of Ducati.

      Perhaps, depending on how you look at it. I certainly believe that Ducati engine, generally speaking, can out perform a Kawasaki engine of similar build, however the maintenance cost and reliability isn't up to where the Japanese bikes are. I'm not having drag races on two wheels, so I'll opt for the more pragmatic Kawasaki. Thanks for stopping by!

      @@ghostontwowheels The only reason Ducati engine can generate power is due to desmodromic CAM - which is an outdated technology. None of automakers now use desmo system anymore, and the conventional CAM tech is now so advanced, it makes desmo valve system pretty obsolete.
