  • Hybrid Additive and Subtractive Manufacturing:
In additive manufacturing, "hybrid" generally refers to a machine with two processes: CNC machining plus 3D printing. This hybrid machine from Additec has three processes, because there are two different modes of depositing metal. With two different heads and two different material feeds, the machine can 3D print in metal through wire arc additive manufacturing using a laser, and then also through a new process, liquid metal jetting (in addition to performing machining). The two additive processes have different strengths and applications, as this video explains.

wow! a lot of wear and tear could be address using this technique. Imagine having a already brocken part indicated, deposit missing material and machine it to size all in one set up. amazing tech!

The height issue can be addressed with future iterations but that will depend on market needs-the potential of the technology is too great to be missed out on.
