- President Jacob Zuma will officiate in this 6th segment of Armed Forces Day celebrations. As the main functionary, he will take the salute from the South African National Defence Force during the military parade. It is a day on which the South African population honours men and women of the South African National Defence Force by affirming its support and gratitude to them for upholding the constitution of the Republic and defending the territorial integrity of the Republic and protecting its people.

I applied for the South African military and sadly I was not accepted so I eventually found out that they take 10 Africans and choose 1 other color and so the pattern continues... I was also told that the living conditions in the hostels was absolutely disgusting because there is apparently no respect amongst the troops and their commanders.... This info comes from a former SA vet
i wanted to join aswell intill i was basically told that i wouldn't get any promotions past Sargent based on my color, if i was accepted at all
Im sorry to hear that....that condition should be changed to ensure that all South Africans are the same when it comes to the military.....

Kihindei Adai If you look at the peace keeping missions in the DRC and CAR for the UN South Africa has been praised and has had great operational success its only the lack of new weapon development and the complacency of occupational units on SA who dont face deployment is what recieves critism

I'm not in the Military...but I know a saying that states that talk is very cheap.......people can talk and try discredit the army but are not in the army or understand what they are going through...they act like children who are tossed by the wind......if the media says our military is week they will fly to the lie as though it is the truth.......its easy to speak but to do is different....

We do not do Military shows of Strength we do small demonstrations aimed at our citizens and not to scare other countries. Huge difference.
we don't need to scare other countries but i feel we could do a better parade. my dad says that there is nothing quite like mass block marching and i think we could be better.

our country is not swak if you know your history of SA we had nukes we had 8 or ten nukes but coz wen mandela took over as president the white man was afriad to leave nukes at the disposal of a black man so part of the deal was that tht they dis arm before he take the presedent position

I have watched military parades of countries like China, Russia etc. this is not what I expected to see from the army of my country, em not impressed at all.
We are very different from those countries. The doctrine is different . We are more like the USA & Israel in the way we do things

South Africa like @Thuls Nkoni said is a very Democratic Nation in that we do Small Military Demonstrations to let Citizens know they are protected and NOT to show our strength /Intimidate other Nations like the Not-So-Democratic countries you noted. This does not in any way mean we suck. Also you might wanna search for USA videos, they look similar to this, small and not that impressive.

Its a Gecko. Its used by the Parabats as an air deployable light vehicle to help transport supplies and some of their heavier equipment. Making it air transportable makes it difficult to give it any sort of meaningful armour.
Its quite a useful vehicle for its purpose.

I'm proud of the military march....it did not represent a false perception of strength...but rather power under control. Humility does not mean you are week but it means that strength is harnessed......Chinese and oriental marches do not mean real strength but simply perceived strength. EG go and look at the USA Military marches.
except the chinese and russians have extreme military strength, for every american tank the russians have 3 and for every american soldier the russians have about 2. they are also stated by americans to be better trained in open warfare as americans have been focused on middle east style wars
