The stone piece that you called a "grinding stone" looks like a vessel for holy water that you bless yourself with going into a church and the way out.
The peacocks are a symbol of Beauty, youth, & vitality. Since they are at The Fountain of Youth... totally makes sense to have them there. Soooo beautiful 😍
Wow I finally made it into a Carpetbagger video! You've been to two other places I work and this was the first time I was on shift that day. Kinda nice. I have always told people your videos should be the standard for travelogues. You un-cynically show attractions for what they are, and we can see for ourselves if we like it. You have remind us to take the time and stop to smell the flowers. Ty.
@Cooking with the Kidd Ah, I wish I had been. I saw that one too. I wasn't in the blacksmith shop that day because the forge was suffering a once in seven years condition of needing repair. I fixed it pretty quick, but it took some days for the part (a "klinker breaker") to arrive. I did not realize the link between the two visits.
Growing up Catholic, that stone piece when you first walk in the church is a baptismal font. Catholics don't usually do a full submersion for a baptism, water is just poured over the head.
May be it's water from the public watersystem with chlorine. There is another fontaine of youth in North Port Florida. You can swim in it.The vlog is like every vlog, informativ, amazing, well made and humorous👍🇺🇸
Being trapped in quarantine, strugglung with mental health issues and family issues, and dealing with medical issues is always totally forgotten whenever I watch your videos. Thank you for doing what you do, you are helping a lot of people feel like they are getting out of the house :)
The stone bowl you said might be used for grinding is actually called a Holy Water Font. They are usually placed at the entrances of Catholic Churches. When parishioners enter the church they dip their fingers into the font and make the sign of the cross as to renew their covenant to Christ. Or maybe that one is just for grinding things. 😁
You are the smart one here. Going down south is a smart idea right now. So cold and full of snow here in IL. I can use some of that Fountain of Youth!!! I like how you are putting more history in your videos. Thanks for sharing!!!
Florida is actually known for its great drinking water ! The lime stone aquifer has some of the cleanest water in the world . We have beautiful springs everywhere .
Poor tap water in Florida is attributed to the two ecological emergencies the state experienced in 2018. During the summer of 2018 red tide microorganisms flooded into the Gulf of Mexico, and toxic blue-green algae flowed into rivers, lakes, and oceans. Additionally, the state experiences high levels of fertilizer and other pollutants due to the freshwater algae blooms. Natural disasters often affect Florida’s water as hurricanes and storms result in flooding, which in turn affect the water systems.
If you're talking about well water, then you're crazy, it sucks! If you're drinking unfiltered tap water, you're crazy! Reverse osmosis is the only way to go.
St Augustine my favorite city in FL.So much history there and the people are so sweet.I’ve been there and really had a great time.Yes I tasted the youth water. It tasted like swamp water to me.I wish it would have made me younger-I’d like to go backward a few years. It was a great tour.💯👍
I've always wanted to go there and i been in Saint agustine 2 times but for working thanks for showing us this place also tha round stone in the church if for holy water
This is the coolest channel on youtube, period and bar none , great stuff in every video , no cussing, no drama , purely educational and should be used in elementary schools, we would watch things very similar to this in the earl 70s when I was a child, it's like a upgraded sesame street always teaching manners and this guy adds history to it, great job jacob, pow !!!
Worth a mention there's a few more little things there that are worth checking out in Savannah there's some kind of lovers tree in the graveyard out there with a story and . Finley O'Connor author.would make good walk around video story's and the river walk
Wow! You know, I was actually in Florida History and my teacher told the class about Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth. It still exists in Florida itself.
In light of current events, dunno if I would be drinking from a public water source. Most spring fed wells have sulfur for some reason. Northville Michigan had a spring that the locals used to flock to under the belief that it had healing properties. I always found it hard to drink due to the smell. The well is still there, but the spring dried out in the 1990's, so all you get is city water from it. They just keep it running in the summer as a place for bicycle riders to stop and refill thier water bottles.
Hey I 37 and I love it I went travelling in states with mom and dad lol I remember fountain of youth maybe that’s why I survived 8 crash cars and two planes crash i in body that love old time things like I grew up knowing all the old things where he been going is where my family travel we start la California Disney land we travel the whole states amazing

Love your sense of humor. In the church that looked like a baptismal font. Maybe they bathed babies in water from the fountain of youth so they would never grow old. Peacocks are beautiful but the ones in the arboretum in Cali were vicious. That is a very pretty park. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
Hey carpetbagger my brother first of all just want to wish you an your family a happy new year hope you had a great one looking forward to your adventures this year great to see you have the magic hat on take care an safe travels !!😃
It's a holy water font... usually kept near the entrance of a Catholic church or in a separate alcove/room called a baptistery.... you dip your finger tips into the holy water & make the sign of the cross as you enter a Catholic church...
I live in st. augustine... I am responsible for the painting at Fountain of Youth.... Cool place and nice people working there.. go check it out if you haven't been...
Ponce De'leon never named the fountain, was actually named the Fountain of Youth after his death.atleast the history I was taught.Still an awesome tourist attraction.
The stone thing in the church is probably for holy water. When you go into a church you dip your fingers into the holy water and do the sign of the cross on yourself before mass.
I’m guessing since the stone was inside of the church it’s probably was meant to hold the holy water where people would draw a cross on there forehead with it before they entered the church.

I went there when I was 90. Now I’m 64.

I appreciate it! Good show! Where else did you work?
I used to live right across the street from the Fountain of Youth.
Just remember the water doesn't protect against poisoned arrows, thats what got ol' Ponce.
Great fun place to visit,am in northern Ireland and probably never visit it myself
"They got Roanoked." My North Carolina ears caught that. 😂

Wow the peacock is gorgeous! This place has so many good things. Thanks for sharing!
9:45 "MUSTER" Is a military term to Gather people together to account/inspect personnel for various tasks
Was the Carpetbagger dropped in the fountain as a baby? Is that his secret? I say yes.
May be it's water from the public watersystem with chlorine. There is another fontaine of youth in North Port Florida. You can swim in it.The vlog is like every vlog, informativ, amazing, well made and humorous👍🇺🇸
Hi Jacob, Thank You.
"Muster" is gathering a milita or military unit together in one place.
Carpetbagger make a playlist for every state so when we’re there we know where to go

I am a life long Catholic and can say with serenity that the item at the church is a holy water fount.
Lots of cool history hidden in the fountain of youth

40’s not so bad Jacob 😊, but you never know maybe the youth juice may work x
I think Beverly, and it's St Augustine derivative, is definitely the secret to staying young forever, hahaha!

I've seen the actual skeletons before they reburied. I'm glad they did that.
Baptismal font or holy water holder maybe?
I will never see peacocks the same after one kicked me when I was younger
Hey, I LIVE IN ST. AUGUSTINE!!!
I LOVE THIS TOWN & KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT'S VERY UNIQUE HISTORY!!!
Thank you for another awesome video! We are currently under lockdown here in the UK, so I love to live vicariously through your videos!
It's good to see places like this are open right now. I wish we could have that here in California. All zoos, museums, and theme parks are closed.
If people had just followed the rules from the beginning California would be open by now.
I've always wanted to go there and i been in Saint agustine 2 times but for working thanks for showing us this place also tha round stone in the church if for holy water
The stone bowl is a baptismal font. It would have held holy water for baptizing infants. Many churches still have them.
Would that be the same thing that people dip their fingers in the holy water and do the cross with?
@@micahjensen7407 I believe so. I personally do not attend a church that uses these, but I have visited.

i may be wrong, but the stone kind of looks like a baptismal pool for churches that sprinkle you with water rather than dunking you under the water.
charming place, just incredible how old it is
Love watching your videos
Wow! You know, I was actually in Florida History and my teacher told the class about Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth. It still exists in Florida itself.
Hi Jacob awesome vlog at the fountain of youth 👍🏻😺
You should go and try the water at indian springs in Georgia
Maybe that stone bowl you saw was for holding holy water?
Exactly what I'm thinking.
It's for holding Kool-Aid.

Sulphur taste comes from a well or spring that isn't very deep. Water coming from way down in the Florida aquifer is pure.

Its a font for holy water :) Either a baptismal font or just a vestibule

Sign of the cross. T ouch your third eye & draw a line to your heart./ Solar plexus...then cross that line vertically from right shoulder to left
I feel like the stone thing in the church would have been for baptizing
I believe that’s a baptismal fountain in the church
That stone object in the church was a baptismal font.
Do you feel younger now after being at the fountain ⛲️ of youth. Lol.
My 4-year-old was watching with me and she saw your hat on the dash and asked... "Is that a birthday cake?" hahaha

It’s a baptismal font for baptisms
I would guess in the church , they would put water in that bowl that you thought was for grinding, of course I'm guessing
When I was in a play I was ponder de leon
Muster of militia men, means an "emergency call to arms"
I think that is a baptismal in the church. They use it for baptisms. I could be wrong but I think that’s it.
It looks to be a holy water font used in the Catholic Church. It would be full of holy water. As you enter you would put the tips of your fingers in it and make the sign of the cross on yourself to purify before entering.
