The Architect explains that, in addition to two unstable versions of the Matrix, there have been five iterations, or cycles, of the Matrix. After the failures of the unstable versions, the Oracle was the mother of each one. Why is she named Oracle? Remembering that human minds are recorded, manipulated and emulated in the Matrix, she has already seen the choices made in each Matrix. She can 'predict', having seen the choices made before, and thus she manipulates and shapes paths favourable to the existence and re-birth of the Matrix. This doesn't necessarily mean she is evil, it just means she has her agenda, what she was made to do.

    • @taidee
      @taidee Год назад +5

If she's not good then she's evil. And pretending to predict what will happen next while you know there's never going to be freedom they think they are fighting for is evil, even this is what she had to do to keep the system working to the machines' advantage.

    • @tristan7586

@@taidee that's too simplistic a notion imho. A famous quote from another franchise: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" - that statement is an absolute statement in itself, it is therefore broken. Apply that same premise in how you are describing the Oracle. We have already been told that the machines had to make a Matrix with the iilusion of free will - but in the previous matrix's could not predict "choice". The Oracle might be seen as a natural evolution to that function. Being that the Oracle's function described by the Architect was to "balance the equation", not "lead everyone to their doom", she is there to try to control/ influence "choice". Yes the machines have used humans as a form of energy, which in itself can be seen as evil, but there is zero evidence the Oracle is pure evil.

@@taideeThe architect says that the machines are prepared to survive under more basic conditions that don’t require human power.
The idea of the matrix and it’s cycles is to maintain the status quo. Humanity has its last city and a simulation in which they can choose to live in.
The last city gives them a purpose. While the machines continue to exist as is.
But in order for this to work the equation has a “remainder” aka “the anomaly” that has to be accounted for every few generations or roughly 100 years.
This is The One. Neo is the sixth “One”. At the end of each cycle The One returns to the Source Code for the matrix and reboots the matrix in cooperation with the machines. Picking several men and women to repopulate Zion and the next cycle begins.
This how they maintain the closest thing to simulating a normal reality for humans and using them to power themselves.
The oracle simply oversees and creates that path for The One in order to continue the status quo. It’s her whole point.
This “balances the equation”, so that humanity continues to live in a robust illusion away from the horrors of reality and the machines live and make do on the earth without a sun.
What made Neo different is he exercised true free will, found the edge of the coin and tackled the Smith problem.
Broke the cycle of the matrix and The Oracle and Architect allow humanity to choose the matrix or reality more freely.
Not sure how this makes anyone evil. They were simply executing their version of a solution that appears to reduce suffering while maintaining a high degree of free will within the program.

I think she's oracle because she, just like neo, architect, and to an even lesser degree the agents , can manipulate the source code of the matrix to be rewritten to what they want it to be.
She says don't worry about the vase to Neo giving him the code sensation to knock into the vase. She also hints at this ability when she says, would you have knock it over him I hadn't said anything?
She also says their are programs operating at a non humanoid physical level to watch over the birds, sunrise, physical laws of gravity etc. Which could mean that when she says something she has such a significance over the Matrix that programs are actively doing her bidding to see that it happens.
She even is shown to have had access to the same "powers" as Neo when smith hacks her.

Matrix 2 hinted that there is a back story of Oracle being more evil/problematic than presented in matrix 1. She says there is no way Neo can know if he can trust her, and when Neo asks questions she claims he already made the choices. She seems to see Neo as another trapped pawn like Morpheus who has no other choice but to follow her.

The Oracle has seen the choices made in previous matrix's. She is there to balance the equation. But it's clear they still can't completely predict choice. The Oracle sees only potential paths, the most likely in her mind, that may be made by all the humans making choices - some of those interlocking choices may lead to cascade failure. In fact, the Oracle is being very open with Neo, in that she makes it clear her purpose is a machines purpose, that her influence is part of the system of control. That does not make her "evil".

I am not convinced that anyone has actually left the Matrix at all in the series.
I like to imagine that there are multiple layers each requiring slightly more processing power and programs to maintain.
The first layer being pure paradise may be rejected by a high percentage of the population but those who remain are easiest to maintain.
The next layer being the start setting of the first movie, this being where majority of the population remains in limbo and is the second easiest to maintain. Mainly due to humans interacting with eachother more often than with the system itself.
The next layer is where Morpheus lives. A small population but one that requires way more interaction to keep entertained/distracted from the fact that they are still in a simulation. This is the most complex layer but you also the smallest population of humans. Every hunter bot is a program, the terrain is simplified to vast expanses of wasteland storms constantly reformatting. The resources are minimal etc. I am not convinced the sun was even present until a human (Neo and Trinity) flew through the storm and saw it.
The main reason I thought this is because Neo still had magic powers in the 'real world' along with the architect mentioning multiple iterations. It makes more sense to continuously patch a program then to completely overhaul it from a risk mitigation point, when the risk is losing all of your human supply.

As Ai technology improves and processing gets leaner in size and power required (molecular computing etc. - Read the short story "The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov). it's possible that the Matrix is merely a pocket universe, of potentially trillions, running in a sim. There's this idea that Ai can solve any problem, like harnessing the atomic power of a grain of sand, by running a close to infinite amount of simulations that mirror real physics. Time can be sped up within the sims to quickly see long-term effects of said tests, basically accelerating a faux entropy for fast results (Why wait 10 years when you can speed up time virtually)? The "Matrix" universe as we've glimpsed in the films could be running a test to understand one of infinite possibilities of a post human civilization. All of the characters may well be Ai, programed to think otherwise for the sake of quality results. The 5-6 iterations of the Matrix, could happen in a nano second.

The Oracle was as manipulative (evil) as every other program. That was her purpose. Every iteration of The Matrix prior, she knew how it would end; remember, she can see every choice that is made except one : The one that hasn't been decided yet. So, The Oracle and The Architect worked together to ensure The Matrix survived. Neo and Smith changed that, so The Oracle was like, "I don't know, but you made that choice."

I could be more or less correct or incorrect, but my thoughts! The Oracle doesn't know if there will be peace, but she aims for it, being about balance.
When Smith corners The Oracle, Smith deduces that she already has predicted her fall to Smith. When Smith absorbs her, he is delighted - his reaction suggests he now can see what the Oracle could see - all the choices made from prior matrixes as well as those made in this Matrix by all she has been in contact with and has been watching.
However... Smith does see his own potential demise at the hands of The One (but it is disguised from him!).
The Oracle told Neo that The One must reach the Source, in the machine city. Not sure if there is anything to say that had happened with a previous "The One"... Perhaps this time around it was the Oracle's belief in Neo that led to peace.
Whichever way you turn it, it's still about control over a system.

Not a bad analogy. When she was installed in the Matrix her programming and purpose were clear: "Find a way to fix the Matrix so the humans will not reject it"
She morphed, molded and become everything what was necessary to achieve her purpose. There is nothing coincidental about her. She is a cold caclulating machine. She was not evil or malicious or vilaneous. She wasnt sadistic like Agent Smith. She just manipulated, lied, told the truth, eviaded questions, gave advise or kept information from people in order to push the Matrix to another cycle. One can say she is ambivalent to everything else outside of her purpose.
She didnt over reach like Smith. she didnt want to escape the Matrix, she didnt become power hungry, she didnt abuse her power. She was powerful not because she had desire to be powerful but because that is what the level of power her mission parameters requred her to have to achieve her goals. She didnt overstep and stayed true to her programming to the end.
She was not the coin. she tossed a coin while having a full control over the outcome. She manipulated the side the spining coin was gonna end. If the outcome of the coin toss was heads that helped her achieve her mission - then the coin would land on the heads while the human thinks its pure luck.

The oracle is an amazing character. It (since it's a program after all) is the embodiment of co-optive power. Counter culture and revolution is always a response to the current system. These counter cultures are doomed to progress the system to make it more tolerable, which makes power more efficient. This only makes the system stronger.
Like the episode of Black Mirror where the guy threatens to kill himself with the piece of glass on TV, the system accepts him and rewards him and co-opts his protest by giving him his own show and a higher position in the society.
The end result of the matrix is that the machines are still in control. Humanity is still relegated to caves underground. The revolution he lead resulted in a tiny change where certain humans would be allowed to leave the Matrix. This is the true story of the Matrix; systems of power adopt incremental change to prolong control and further entrench the hierarchy.
This evolution of the system is confirmed by the architect and the knowledge that there were many neos before this Neo. Each anomaly provided incremental changes to make control of the humans more efficient.

I always though of this. His powers to disable machines in the real world remains questionable. He did that even in Matrix 4, see 6:57. And I don't think he has WLAN in his body, this should have be affected by the EMP before.
It would make sense to have a second layer. A dystopian one with dark clouds. On this second layer they could give humanity a different reality together with the machines, even though the humans are still the weaker minority. But another choice for those humans who deny the first layer.
But one thing bugs me. Neo in Matrix 4 seems to be the last and only Neo. But he existed in every iteration of the Matrix before, as shown by the Architect. So he is more just like some random dude getting (half) of the anomaly. He was reborn certain times to be in the function of "the one" for the next reset of the matrix - together with the anhilitation of nearly everyone on "Layer 2". In Matrix 3, the annihilation was effectively stopped, but the Matrix was still reset. So what he archieved was that they could grow more in Layer 2. And got company of some machines in Matrix 4. And Neo?
Somehow the machines removed his "reborn feature" in the new matrix iteration, it seems. Therefor the Analyst tried to capture the bodies of the old ones, because he wanted that anomaly code/power. But why? Maybe because it works on layer 2? Maybe these programs are captured in this matrix layer 1 too (aka being exiled) and want to escape?
Anyways. Nice to hear someone with the same initial thoughts.

I strongly disagree with your presupposition. The Oracle was a machine that given authority to find a better solution to the human/choice problem, yes. But she was also a leader to them who did not demand them to be ANYTHING other than what they are. Remember: a leader can help their people but also have selfish and secretive wants/goals. If the Oracle is evil, a character like Lady Olenna from Game of Thrones is also evil yet we know she fed a whole city even after zealots inside imprisoned her grandchildren. Can a person be truly evil if everyone under them is able to follow their own nature?

I believe her main objetive was always her own survival as Oracle. Its not clear in the Matrix, but I dont believe programs or machines can die in the human sense. They are merely recycled when they arent useful. If you pay attention to the Architect's words in Matrix Reloaded, you will realize the Oracle made a "mistake". She was suppose to pick a human with a deep love for humanity and a natural leader as The One. I believed that man was Morpheus. He was suppose to be the One. However, I believe if he was the One, he would have returned to the source (and yes, he would have sacrificed Niobe). However, if that had happend, I believe the Architect would have made a case to Deus Ex Machina that the Matrix, with this new addition, was perfect "enough" to exist as definitive. If that happened the cycle of the One would end since he wouldnt be necessary to improve the simulation. The anomaly would still exist, but the machines could correct it by destroying Zion and the humans, restarting the Matrix as is (Morpheus Version - no update required) and starting from scratch. If the One is unecessary, the Oracle is unecessary and would be recycled in the Source. By picking Neo, she fucked the Architect's plan up.

In the same way the manipulate story of the Oracle served as a reverence for Trinity because she is the source of the anomaly whereas Neo being the end.
Trinity even without realising that she too was an anomaly says to Neo that she loves him no matter what the prophecy says so.
This can be seen in The Matrix Revolutions. She believed in him even after knowing that the prophecy of The Oracle was a lie.

What I think of this video may only be answered by this parable...
The Tale of the Silent Sheep and the Sly Wolf
Once upon a time, in a peaceful meadow, lived a flock of sheep. They grazed contentedly, guarded by a wise old shepherd. The shepherd was kind and protective, ensuring the sheep were safe from harm.
However, lurking in the shadows was a cunning wolf, ever hungry and eager to feast on the sheep. He watched the flock, observing their patterns and weaknesses. He realized that the sheep were too trusting and complacent. They relied solely on the shepherd for their protection and paid little attention to their own safety.
The wolf saw an opportunity. He began to sow discord among the sheep, whispering doubts about the shepherd's abilities and loyalty. He suggested that the sheep were better off fending for themselves. The sheep, being easily swayed, began to question the shepherd's leadership.
The wolf continued his manipulation, convincing the sheep that voting for a new shepherd would solve their problems. The sheep, eager for change, held an election. However, the wolf had already ensured that he had a puppet candidate in place. The puppet won the election, and the wolf, disguised as a harmless sheep, gained control of the flock.
Under the wolf's rule, the sheep were mistreated and neglected. They were forced to work harder, received less food, and lived in fear. The wolf, having gained their trust through deceit, was able to exploit them without resistance.
The old shepherd, heartbroken by the sheep's plight, tried to warn them of the wolf's true nature. But the sheep, blinded by their own mistakes, refused to listen. They had learned a hard lesson about the dangers of complacency and the power of manipulation.
The moral of the story is that while a manipulator may be cunning and deceitful, it is the passivity and gullibility of the masses that allow them to succeed. The sheep, by blindly following the wolf and neglecting their own safety, had become complicit in their own downfall. The lesson to be learned is that true freedom and security can only be achieved through vigilance, critical thinking, and active participation in one's own affairs.

The Oracle was not only trying to save the machine world, but she was also trying to save the human race. She also didn't manipulate anyone. I don't think the Oracle was evil. In computers there is something called a DMA and/or IRQ Request. Which is when when a part other than the main processor wants the attention of the main processor. For example, If memory wants to cycle information from one part of the board into the memory, or from memory to another part of the board..it puts in a Request to the DMA controller, which in turn tells the processor "hold up whatever you are currently doing...memory wants to do something, first..." And I believe that was the Oracle's function in "The Matrix" Because this gave her a top down view of everything happening IN the Matrix, she realized that the relationship between computer and human was not 100 percent parasitic. As far as she is concerned, Humans and Computers are two systems that need each other to be able to function efficiently.

Actually, it was the oracle who hinted to neo that the path of the one is part of the system.
She gave the One a choice, but the One is not completely free.
She kind of tells neo this is the game you chose to play, and it is a game. You can choose to doom everyone, or sacrifice yourself.
She called Morpheus but subconsciously morpheus has already made the choice to be morpheus.
The idea is that humans need a lie because we cannot accept the trurh. We like to live in our own delusion either because we dont have true freedom, and just choose between paths, or because we need it to give meaning to what we already chose to do or be.

You're just making up a random argument with no basis.
If the matrix is a metaphor for spiritual awakening to the true reality of the self, then the oracle is the master, guru or part of the mind that urges one to ask questions of the self. The imagined self is found to not exist and the true self is revealed. She knows where you must go because she has seen it herself but she cannot tell you what you're not ready to hear because you will reject it for another wasted path.
She provides prophecies because it helps one to have something to assess their choices by, a relative point of reference. Without a current perspective, whether real or imagined, one would simply be adrift.
She has no agenda except awakening so the idea that she has skin in the game is wrong. Whatever the outcome she is unaffected and will always be there as that guiding voice no matter how long it takes.
