- How to Nickel and Gold Plate onto Steel:
Step 1) Electroclean area very well @ 8v. Rinse & Check for "Wetting out"
Step 2) Woods Nickel Strike @ 8v everywhere. Rinse well
Step 3) Nickel plate @ ~4v everywhere. Rinse
Step 4) Gold Plate @ ~4-5v to desired thickness. Rinse

You’ll probably want to remove the bluing before you do any plating.
I was bout to say they probably just remove the blue first. The sell the solution at any gun store

I'm curious if you can nickle boron coat just the rails which a gun slide rides on when you take down your pistol?
On most polymer pistols, that is 4 or 5 little strips of metal that the slide rides on, which are the only points of contact. If polished up, or nickle boron coated, I'd imagine it would make the slide run much smoother and cycle better.
Doesn't last long. I had it done on a 1911, the nibx worked OK, ti nitride was better. Had ti done on my stacatto. It worked great.

Anything more abrasive than a polishing cloth will scratch and potentially remove the gold plate.
Hello, can you reuse the gold solution?
I have a gsg 1911 the frame is zinc alloy got it used guy stripped the frame down to bare metal Idk if it even has a protective layer looks horrible was wondering if it's possible to nickel plate the zinc alloy frame do you have any recommendations I'm new to this any ideas would be very much appreciated
No it won't plate.
Does this process need to be done if the steel has chrome on it?
Nope, you need to strip it using a chrome stripper , then an activator, then gold plate it ...

After electro cleaning and trying to do woods nickel strike with a nickel anode the steel starts to tarnish immediately, what am I doing wrong?

What if the item I’m trying gold plate is already nickel plated… do I just straight gold plating ?
You will need to activate that nickel surface then you start gold plating.

What is the difference between the gel and the liquid gold solution? What’s best to use
They are both the same thing just the gel solution wastes less when you are plating on surfaces that are vertical like a car or something. The gel is easier to collect when using so it can be reused.

I have been trying to gold plate a Glock 43x stainless steel slide, I haven’t had luck. The gold is barely noticeable, my steps are electro clean, nickel strike and 24K gold brushed. Could anyone help???

No. Aluminum is extremely difficult to plate and needs to be done on an industrial level by a trained professional.

electric cleaner is that the Chrome strip ?
They are very similar in composition but do have differences. That being said, you can use Chrome Stripper to Electroclean by using forward polarity (normal plating mode). You cannot use Electroclean to strip chrome, however.

Is it mandatory to use the nickel conversion bit
I would also like to know
the nickel bit is necessary because it replenishes the nickel in the solution, if you use something else, it will take the spot of the nickel in the solution and ruin it. any contaminants on your bit will also affect the plating. I'm speaking from experience :P spend the money on a pure nickel anode or buy one of their bits
