I'm paraphrasing, but there's a quote that basically goes "Stories need a sad beginning to have a happy ending," which is definitely true for many Christmas Specials.
My Dad was born in Saigon Vietnam with the Viet Kong were attacking villages, he was rescued in a Military Operation called Operation Baby Lift, 3 Chinook Helicopters came to rescue woman and children, and only 2 of those helicopters made it out. My father alone being on one of them, as his mother had stayed behind to be with her people and hasn't been heard from since. Our family bloodline knows about this type of pain.
I remember when I first saw that. When I was younger I would assume the whole war torn situation people dealt was something that happened long ago but as I got older I noticed things like his situation still happened and is happening even now. Arnold just like many kids on the 90's in America including myself though I was still very young when this episode came out just thought america pretty ok as we never would had thought about such things as war until 2001.... When I was younger anything I saw when it involved war was just in movies or cartoons that had characters with backgrounds of world wars or some other country fighting another it's crazy even to this day just how much wars are still going on and love ones get torn apart and are lucky to reunite at some point. It's more easier today though someone like that office guy who helped Arnold wouldn't be necessary as if Arnold was to try that now he could just pull up his device and get the info in a pinch Lol but that would make the episode not as daring and impactful 😅 so crazy how so much has changed since then and yet still remains the same.
This Christmas episode of Hey Arnold really touched my heart it does every year never get tired of it. I enjoy watching it every year around Christmas time.🎄🎁🥲
