  • You have achieved a penetrating precision in combat, granting you the following benefits:
    Increase your Strength or Dexterity by 1, to a maximum of 20.
    Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack that deals piercing damage, you can reroll one of the attack’s damage dice, and you must use the new roll.
    When you score a critical hit that deals piercing damage to a creature, you can roll one additional damage die when determining the extra piercing damage the target takes.

      Burst with assassin + piercer + sharpshooter can get nuts. At level 10 with battlemaster-6, twilight cleric -1 and assassin 6 you can have +9 initiative with advantage so your going before most or all enemies and can burst someone for an AVERAGE of 163 damage w/ 4 longbow attacks and a dart quick toss against 17 AC (more with bless, magic weapons, if you initiate combat). You can even spread the death around and be 300+ feet away. Piercer contributes extra dice to the guaranteed crits from assassin openers. At level 20 the nova can be averaging in the 300-350 AVERAGE range.

    There is one build this can work quite well for, but it is admittedly very specific. At VERY high levels of play (18+), this could be quite good on a PAM Cavalier Fighter with a Pike. Sure, you lose out on the bonus action PAM attack because you're using a pike, but you can make as many attacks of opportunity as there are opponents foolish or desperate enough to approach you or move within your reach (due to the Cavalier's lvl 18 feature giving them a potential reaction every turn), and each of those opportunity attacks gets to benefit from the re-roll feature because they each happen on a different creature's turn. What's more, the lvl 10 feature of the Cavalier drops the speed of targets struck with attacks of opportunity to 0, so you get more chances to hit, re-roll, and (brutal) crit as your opponents move around within your reach.

    • @52392daner
      @52392daner Год назад

      Could the lance work too? It's not a polearm, but the cavalier already gets the ability to opportunity attack creatures that move while within your reach (not when they enter, but once they are within your reach and they use any movement at all). Now you get a d12 at reach instead of a d10. I guess the only issue is that if they get within 5ft of you, the attacks are at disadvantage... maybe the pike is better for that alone.

    Why would you compare piercer to crusher or slasher? Piercing damage is mostly from finesse weapons and ranged weapons, so the same character would rarely choose between them. You should compare it to other half-feats that increase Dexterity by 1, since that’s the main time you would consider it.

    I’ve got an assassin rogue with, and I think this would be amazing with the autocrit function of at the beginning of combat with assassinate. What do y’all think? Not to mention the chance to just reroll any bow shots that send out low damage is sounding pretty busted to me

    • @frking100
      @frking100 3 года назад

      it is a single dice for the reroll and for the crit so at best you are getting 13 extra dmg per combat (that is factoring in the surprise crit) if your dex is an odd number like 15, 17 or 19 it is a good pick up but i would still value alert, sharpshooter, crossbow expert, skilled and prodigy over this feat some of these feats give you better dmg others give you more support/skills to use when the sessions are not combat based.

      Add Elven Accuracy. You increase crit chance by a decent margin when you have advantage. You could also add Fighter Samurai for bonus action advantage on all attacks in a turn, plus action surge for nova round. Helps in combat when you can't otherwise get surprise round or advantage.

    I'm pretty sure this stacks with sneak attack dice as well which is why its so deadly with the assassin build. Also I believe the same goes for smite if I"m not mistaken so you can crit fish with elven accuracy with a paladin or hexblade (or if you are cheeky both) dual wield build. I might be wrong though.

  • @52392daner
    @52392daner Год назад

    Piercer is really good for an Assassin Rogue/Gloomstalker Ranger build. You get 3 attacks on your first round of combat at advantage with autocrits. That means you get 3d10 additional damage (average 16.5 additional damage) for that first round. You could do this with a fighter instead and action surge on the 1st round for 4 attacks (average 21 additional damage). So, any build that can reliably autocrit with multiple piercing damage attacks, this is a good feat. Otherwise, not really.

  • @Nemeantough1

    A build I was considering with these feat was a multiclass of ranger and barbarian that would allow me to have the thrown weapon style for a spear and shield wielding character. I think it'd be useful because rage and thrown weapon would be a +4 dmg on almost every attack and the crit ability would give an extra brutal crit die to the barbarian

    Half-Orc. Take a lance/pike and crossbow/longbow. Go champion. Multiclass into assassin rogue. Multiclass into gloom stalker ranger. (12/4/4). Get a mount. Take Alert, Mounted Combatant, Piercer, Sharpshooter/Great weapon master, Fey Touched (for hunter's mark), and Lucky (if you're feeling cruel). Enjoy Crit-city, high initiative, and advantage a lot of the time (if going pure ranged drop mounted combatant). Add poison for more fun. (note, you can also use Sentinel and Polearm master if more melee). Credit to Min/Max Munchking for the build.

    perfect for a fighter / rogue multiclass (champion)
    crit twice as often as champion, w/ sneak attack dice from rogue and finally a second crit die to double alongside the many other dice..
    so, your chances of a crit double from 1 in 20 to 1 in 10 AND you get to double all your beautiful dice including your weapon..
    mwa, im test driving my new ferrari now, will update when it ends up a high speed train wreck.. should be fun..

    (ranged fighter long bow)champion seems best for increased critical chance.
    sharp shooter 1st then piercer 2nd to bump a 17 dex to 18.
    re-roll a D10 with a 3/20 chance of critical per attack or 3/10 if advantage?
    Increases the likely hood of landing sharp shooter? Seems pretty good to me! 6.5/10? my guess better then many feats though very specific use.

      Um Rogues also. If anything Rogues benefit from it the most. Especially if your an assassin. Since they can auto crit and do an insane amount of with that attack. Most finesse weapons r also piercing (at least the good ones like raiper and longbows). Kensei monks could also benefit from this by picking both longbow and raiper as their monk weapons (which r the best choices). Paladins could also really benefit from it depending on what build your going with (honestly any class can based on your build).

    • @alfonsovallejo2665
      @alfonsovallejo2665 2 года назад

      @@davidstratton696 you can only get a +1d8 or +1d10 (if you get longbow proficiency somehow) per turn; with a fighter you can attack 3 times per action at level 11 (6 with action surge) so you can at least crit 2 times per round by gaining advantage with something like the samurai subclass. That and also the fighter has more feats than any other class.
