So funny story; end of the 4th season of this show, TFS held a fan art contest. I submitted Shera in a bondage outfit with a whip and won a T-shirt. Their reasoning was, "You'd only understand what this was if you watched our show."

4:29 About what Cid mentions about him having a ancestor named Cid, it's a reference to all final fantasy games have a character named Cid.
Also, the engine/oxygen tanks are references to the gameplay in the other FF games.

What's really hilarious is that this is the healthiest interpretation of Cid and shera's relationships
So a few things. For some reason, a constant in Final Fantasy is that there is a Cid in every game. So when he says ‘Cid the [Number]’ he’s referring to the Cid of that Final Fantasy. So ‘Cid the 9th’ refers to the Cid of FF9 who go turned into an Oglop (giant roach) by his wife after cheating on her. Palmer actually does get hit by a truck in the game, the basement is not actually cannon, an the dream Cloud isn’t from the remake and is actually from the Kingdom Hearts game. Also when he said he fought a gorilla with a tie he’s referring to Donkey Kong, referring how Cloud is a character in Super Smash Bros. Oh and the “Siphoning and Junction systems” in oxygen tank 8 that Shira mentioned in the flashback refer to the battle systems in FF8 where you siphon cards off of enemies to use magic and junction summon monsters and spell directly to your stats. Which after seeing them in action, people did not like at all.
LOL! Yeah...the junction system was a pain-in-the-ass. Spent hours drawing various magic to attach to stats to raise them, then having to juntion manually cuz auto never set things up the best way, imo...then as you cast magic, whatever stat that magic is juntioned to slowly goes down so you gotta spend more time syphoning or drawing to max it out again. 40 hours of gameplay turns into about 80 hours cuz of the junction system. 😂😂😂

Cloud's dream self was from the Kingdom Hearts games. You should play them! And Cid and Shera's relationship is actually healthier here than in canon. The BDSM stuff isn't from the games, but something they added here. While Cid got getter with how he treated her, he did severely blame Shera for what happened. Here, they used BDSM, which requires trust and consent from both parties, as a means of working through their issues, with Cid being quite harsh in his words in the day, and Shera being harsh physically in the night in the basement.
Relationships should be 50/50
Vincent's "werewolf-demon-thing" is his first limit break, Galian Beast.
2nd is Death gigas and it looks like frankensteins monster, you'll see this and the rest in due time
3rd is hellmasker, Jason voorhees and leather face love child zombie deal going on there.
4th and final one is Chaos, if you want to know more about chaos, you'd need to look at Dirge of Cerberus for ps2 (highly underrated spinoff game).

Basically every Final Fantasy game has a character named Cid in it. As a result, every time this Cid brings up one of his ancestors he's talking about the Cid from one of the other games (including games after this one). Figured you'd get more out of that running gag if you at least knew that premise, otherwise it's just gonna be damn annoying
More specifically, in this episode he mentioned “Cid the 9th”, referencing King Cid from Final Fantasy 9, who was turned into an animal by his wife. The Cids being related isn’t canon and would be completely impossible except with FF7 and FF10 since they (might) share the same universe (thousands of years apart)

Because it's not there.
One of the funny things in that part before the intro, where Vincent slaughters that boss, is that if you actually tried doing that in-game, you'd probably never beat it. Vincent becomes uncontrollable when he uses his limit breaks, and stays transformed until he dies or the battle ends. He'll randomly use one of two moves each of his turns, and one of them in that form is a fire attack. Unfortunately, this boss is HEALED by fire attacks. So Vincent will sit there healing it for a lot of HP on most of his turns. Also, the whole speech they had the boss give was a joke in itself, because that boss literally has no story to it whatsoever. You're just going through the area and the exit is blocked by this guy and you kill it to move on. The only signifigant thing about it is you can learn a really useful attack from it.

Some fun little Final Fantasy Fact for you:
Pretty much all the Final Fantasy games from 1-15 has a character named Cid in it. Almost all of the Cids that appeared were major supporting characters, and two of them were playable characters (Final Fantasy 4 and 7).
Not all of them were good guys, however. two Cids served as major antagonists (Final Fantasy 12 and 13)
One thing that almost all the Cids shared in common, was that they were all often associated with engineering, technology and machinery. And most of them were the source of the game’s airship.
If I remember right, Cids didn't show up until 3.

8:43 so what she talks about "Oxygen tank 8" she is actually referencing Final Fantasy 8. "It uses a siphoning system that a lot I don't think a lot of people enjoy" Unlike in FF7 where you can just equip materia for spells, FF8 used a system where you needed to steal every single spell and their charges from enemies. You want 99 casts of fire 1? I hope you enjoy stealing it from the same enemy 99 times.

Funnily enough, with that being Cid's opening line, I feel like they actually toned down his language from the actual game. It could just be hyperbolized memory, but I feel like in the game, every two or three dialogue boxes he spoke had a curse word in it.
Shrina to the eyes of the public are the good guys and they don't want the public to be asking questions about the fire.
I remember Berserk abridged also took a jab at FF8's gameplay but you can tell it's a really old video because nowdays, alot people will now hate on FF13

So basically, what team four star did here was give context as to Cid's general behavior thats a little more easy to swallow. Basically, due to reasons, Cid treated Shera like literal dirt. Long story short, he was an abuser. The BDSM stuff is something that TFS introduced so they could take away one of the parts of Cid's character that doesn't exactly age well, and make it into something that's healthier for both him and Shera, as well as hilarious for us as viewers
Not really sure about "not aging well". It was an intentional character flaw. One that was part of his character development through the game. FF7 never portrayed it as a positive thing. I'll agree that something that heavy might not work in a comedy series like the Machinabridged, so I'm fine with them changing it.

Shera, Cid's wife, is voice by Elsie Lovelock, whose name I dropped...I thought a few episodes ago, but looking back at the past several, must've been longer than that. Oh well. She played a little girl and she's best known currently for the playing a foul-mouthed scottish version of one of the recent pokemon main characters.
Cid himself is voiced by Brian Olvera, whom I had a fun time looking up. In Dragon Ball Z Abridged, he played Mustard (aka Tard) in the Kai Abridged 2.9, and he also played the old man Android 17 kills in the episode of episode 60. Oh, and he also played Dah-Di in the Broly Abridged Movie. More than just Abridged, he's actually a professional VA, mostly sticking with background characters and additional voices, it looks like.

If I remember right, it's because of Cid and Vincent sharing a hotel room when they revisit the Gold Saucer to find the keystone. Shippers took that way too seriously and wrote fanfics about it.
