Im Australian and your interpretation was spot on. I am very impressed with you knowledge and understanding of the song. Well done.
Very nice reaction guys to what’s become something of an iconic Aussie song. Nice to hear the Oils.
If you think Peter Garrett’s singing is different then wait until you see his dancing!
Mate, I love his moves :D fellow Aussie here.
Many moon's ago we went to see them at the local pub. His dancing resulted in him hitting his head on the stage lights. Barely skipped a beat.
I love the video for Power and the Passion, mainly to watch his quirky dancing.
I met him when flying home from the USA to Australia many years ago. He is VERY tall, and a complete force of nature (quite intimidating, in a good way). He’s a massive advocate for indigenous rights and the environment. He tried to make changes by becoming a politician, but unfortunately, he fell victim to the Machiavellian tactics of conservatives in Oz. Shame. He tried. Love the bloke! Definitely makes a bigger impact being lead singer of the Oils! (IMO)
@@jhopsi love his dance mooves... everybody should allways dance like nobody is watching, out of Your soul..
Thanks for your great reaction & interpretation!! Hello from "Down Under" !!
What a brave band.....with a brave message.
Yes
And to be honest it's more relevant now than ever.
I am glad I found you guys, subscribed after the second video already. Keep it up and greetings from Brazil.
Midnight Oil tend to sing about local Australian issues so sometimes it's difficult for non Australians to understand what they're on about. Read About it is a song I sing more and more as it's becoming more relevant every day.
This album, Diesel and Dust, is a masterpiece.
Esta música ha llegado muy lejos, acá en la patagonia de Chile.
song from my *younger years*, love your reactions, love from Sweden ♥
I believe they wrote this song about the Aborigines in Australia. White Man took away their land and they are now almost extinct! Powerful song.
Hey John we aren't going extinct, our latest population estimate is over 700,000 and climbing. Just thought I'd let you know.
@@victordixon6873 Great to hear Victor!
Yeah, Lighten up Francis!!!!! .... :D
It was just men, stick your white guilt nonsense.
BTW 600 000 are on the dole or in jail.
Yes, It's about the abrigines, but no the way you think. They'te just protesting because in the 50's they took their land unfairly to test misiles.
Fantastic reaction video! Great band and song! They have so many awesome songs. So unique and original. Just saw them tour about 2 years ago here in Ohio. They were incredible live!
Lyrics. It helps, and so true with such a message song .
This is a Great song with serious messages about people of the earth and the injustice that was and is happening against native people.
You had to watch the Video clip of this classic .
Midnight oil from Aussie fantastic band
Your interpretation was perfect.
Couldn't be more spot-on.
One powerful song. One POWERFUL MESSAGE!!
Nice reaction video. Greetings from finland.
Great reaction -- you are both very perceptive and enthusiastic. I really enjoy watching you react to such a wide variety for music!
I love your sight, you play a much better and wider variety of music than most. Everyone else are all playing the same music and artists.
If you haven't already seen the official music video, you should check it out. They have many of the Aboriginal people in the video with them, dancing and interacting with the band. It's an amazing video,
Great work! I'd be interested in hearing your reaction to some of their even older songs like Short Memory or Stand In Line.
Awesome song, I remember hearing it the first time... it's on every mix tape / playlist i ever made.
WOW you guys got it. Every American reaction I watched were totally clueless too the meaning of the song.
The late 1970s and early 80s produced many, many Western (so-called "First World") bands whose songs were "politically aware" as we called it then. Midnight Oil were so serious about it that their amazing lead singer eventually became an Australian Member of Parliament, hoping to improve his world.
“Dead Heart” is another song from Midnight Oil that you should give a listen to.
Blue sky mine..
Spot on
Hi Enoma, I like the reaction to a great song. How have you been? What have you been up to.
song from my *younger years*, love your reactions, love from Sweden ♥
I also loved the trombone part in the middle. You don't always hear the trombone as a primary brass instrument in a rock song (with the exception of Chicago). the saxophone and trumpet are the brass horns that get the most acknowledgement.
45 Deg C = 114 Deg F. ...the Western Desert..
Always thought while singing this in 80s they were saying how do we dance when I heard you strumming 😂😂😂. Loved this song....great thing about 80s such a wide range of good music and groups.
Whatever floated your boat k suppose, lol,
Great 80s tune.
One of the first, outside of Australia, reviews that get the meaning of the song first time. I heard Pete Garrett being interviewed by a... I’m gonna say it... moron... on British radio one time who said to him the first time they...( look I’m being diplomatic.. she) heard it she thought it was about “hot sex”. But then later she realised it was about “global warming”. Pete was very polite and just let stunned silence be his answer.
OMG!! Truly stunning idiocy from that Brit.
Spot on analysis... you are correct.
Check "Dead Heart"
similar theme
i didn't know this was here i just requested it 5 min. ago that was quick .lol.
They performed this at the Sydney Olympics as a way of saying sorry to the Aboriginal people which the Australian government at the time refused to do.
You guys rule.. love Midnight Oil
This is a very heavy song.
always has been aboriginal land and always will be says a 49year old aboriginal woman
Thanks
Wonderful insights from Oils newbies.
Cool tee, Savio.. Rockin the combie
Great Peter Garret.
Wow you got the message, The song rythym is based on the Aboriginal Didgeridoo.. God bless, thanks for sharing your reaction.. 💯💚♥️💛 and Aboriginal land rights..
Yes, it is about Justice
React to Bow river by Cold Chisel one the greatest Aussie classics of all time
Yes, a classic!!
Australia is a hot climate country , it does snow here on east cost - 15degrees . Sydney where I live it has been 48 degrees yrs ago , average temp see 40 degrees
you will also will like the song called king of the mountain by midnight oil
If you don’t get the message in this song I give up
I found you guys by Kula Shaker’s reaction and since them I enjoy your reactions all the time! I wonder if you could react to Silvio Rodriguez “Mi unicornio azul” it’s a song in spanish by a famous Cuban folk singer.I think you might find interesting!!!! greetings from Mexico!!!!!
Nice shirt
also a great song . like the whole album. think it was 1989 but wouldnt bet on it xd
LAND BACK NOW!!!!!!
Barns Courtney video 'fire' and other songs of his, or the Animals 'House of the rising sun'.
❤️💛🖤💯
Saw them at the tafe colledge in Toowoomba QLD in 1981 and they are still the loudest band I've ever heard.my ears were ringing ,great band.King of the mountain is another good one.
Holden Wrecks.
Midnight Oil have always championed the social issues of Australia, and in particular the issue of reconciliation.

Peter Garrett also ended up serving as a member of Federal Parliament, so he out his activist money where his mouth was.
He should have stayed with the band. At their height they had just started to have the world at their feet. Between Yothu Yindi and themselves through music they made huge leaps toward Aboriginal land rights. If they had continued back then things might not be as they are now. The bands voice was getting very strong.
Good to hear they're back on the road.
My honest thoughts. Firstly I watch alot of reaction videos cause they are full of shit. Somehow as the random world works. I found you both. Let's talk more
Chevelle jar
The Oils were overrated and always preachy to me. Gimme 'Warumpi band'..''black palla, white palla'' or 'Cruel Sea' or 'Hunters and Collectors' any day.
