    I had the option of flying the R22 or the Guimbal. I chose the Guimbal G2. I did a demo flight in both and just found the ergodynamics of the Guimbal more to my liking. I read a lot about the R22 and although there have been many time more built than the Guimbal the accidents seem to be numerous, perhaps to be expected based on numbers but still the mast bumping and low G concerns seem specific to the Robinson. Seems that someone in New Zealand wasn't giving proper training, many of the crashes and fatalities happened there. One requires special training to go from a Guimbal or other helicopter to the Robinson, no a great endorsement if you ask me. In addition the cyclic is not "immediately" available to the instructor if the student has it in the proper position, his hand has to be UP hovering near his portion of the cyclic, not so in the Guimbal. I also read that the Robinsons have a tendency to rupture the gas tank on crash landing and that there was a recommendation of wearing fireproof flight suits while training in the Robinson. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. When it all comes down to it personal preference and in most cases "availability" will be the deciding factor.

    For $400,000 they should be able to make the main rotor engage without the same grinding squeal that an enstrom makes.

    They should lower the price for one year compatible to a r22
    The rewards in a two year plan
    Would be phenomenal
    Your welcome in advance

      Do you test the chopper? If you test it you will adopt it. For sure!

    Hella sexier than a Robinson; I never like the Robinson bean pole mast but I'm sure there was an engineering reason for it. Bumping prevention at low RPM?

    • @marshallallensmith
      @marshallallensmith 7 лет назад +1

      Partly due to the teetering design which makes bumping an issue but also has a lot to do with where the transmission actually rides in the frame and compared to say an MD-500 they actually have a similar mast height it is just that Robinson design has a large portion of it above the frame vs buried deeper in the model as in the 500 etc. Mast height is not calculated by how much is visibly present above the "body" but rather the length of the shaft coming out of the transmission so a lot depends on where that transmission is.

    This thing needs a different engine. Put MW Fly B25G in it or....even better twin D-Motir LF26 engines. Mogas is a must! Twin engines increases safety and D-Motor liquid cooled flatheads should be very reliable to begin with, as they are very simple. This could be a VERY safe helicopter with safety apparently (autorotation etc.) being the main design goal from the get go. Robinson are f...ing dangerous and difficult to fly. Mast bump ain't nothing to joke about, as the main rotor separating from the chopper in flight doesn't sound like fun to me! You'll drop like a rock...meaning yall are dead....ain't nothing to be done.

      Ari the testing price for certification alone is the deal breaker .....my advice purchase the chassis without engines and hot rod your dreams.....
