  • This is the last ever performance by the CWS Manchester Band on the 31st March 1985 at Dobcross Band Club. Platt Lane, Dobcross, Saddleworth OL3 5AD.
The band played a particularly heavy program and every solo instrument chair was required to stand up and show off. There were tears on the night.
Farewell CWS. The Cooperative Wholesale Society were so stupid to 'delete' this musical institution when the costs of maintaining it were so paltry in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for bringing this back to life .... brilliant seeing how concerts and venues have changed over the years ... casual smoking in the audience and the buzz of a live audience 👍👍👍

Great to see this, thank you. I played in CWS Glasgow band in 1987/88 age 17. So sad that the number of bands today has fallen so low. Euphonium player John Stark was my trumpet then cornet teacher, he was one of the two brass instrument teachers at my school.

Thanks so much for sharing this.a great piece of history with some great playing, a lot of familiar faces, including my own, playing Eb next to Phil. I'd completely forgotten about this😊

Really sad when a band fold up , especially when they know it will be their last performance . I guess this must have been very emotional .
