Nice review. I used to ride the ttx on my 1st gen kenevo and loved it. I was just recently in the market for a new shock for my acoustic enduro rig and I'm glad to hear the e-storia compares well with it, as I managed to get a new one for 650€ spring and shipping included (a ttx would have been 700). I hope setting up the ext isn't going to be a hassle, as the ohlins was really a fit and forget platform with outstanding performance.
The EXT is a head ache. Here is the trick drop the spring rate 20-50 lbs from your normal spring. Add in allot of compression and move rebound way faster than you think Thank me later
@@OtterMTBtechthis came way too late, my first bikepark ride was not good, not at all 😂 I'm going to pay a visit to the shop in the next few days to grab a much lighter spring. The full sad story in the comments of your new ext V3 video 😂 But after the first ride I concour, you have to go 50 lbs lighter that what ext suggest for a 28% sag otherwise the thing is a jackhammer
I literally bought a TTX22M.2 after watching this vid - and you were right! I'ts amazing, especially on an ebike. Thanks! I also just gambled on a Vorsprung Telum for my enduro bike - first signs are very positive! Very different and seemingly more highly damped than other coil shocks. Any chance you're picking one of those up for testing?
At 215 lbs I just put the new vivid coil 230x65 on my turbo levo with cc lt link paired with a 180 zeb headset cup at -1 bb on high bike rides awesome love it. I previously had the cc kitsuma coil which I took off bc it had a squeak. After only 4months of use rather than send for a rebuild I went for the vivid hope it holds up 🍻. Always wanted a ohlins but that yellow tho...🤔
FYI the ‘23 Rcokshox coils are not rated or approved for 230x65 stroke yoke bikes. Only the 210x55 is ok, per documents. Probably fine with your progressive linkage ad, but just so you know. The bike is rated for 160 forks so you are also 20 mil over the Max rated fork. Again I would do the same thing, but I just finished the ‘23 Super Deluxe ride test with 230x65 shock, was ok, nothing special. The yellow ya, I would opt for the EXT color
@@OtterMTBtech the one I got is the 2025 vivid coil, I know a few ppl that have the 23 version you reviewed with the cascade long travel link on the turbo levos only reason why I tried this new vivid version, so far soo good fingers crossed. Haven't seen or heard of anyone snapping one on this bike configuration. I really enjoy your content. Keep it up !!
@OtterMTBtech well, $1600 CAD (which is actually around $1200 USD). I get it though, still steep. When you get the chance to own one though, that would be worth contending against the other smaller guys.
Ttx is super durable, compared to previous coils that haven't lasted 12 months. The steel shaft was scored when i sent mine in for a service after 2 years on the kenevo. The scoring was so fine i wouldn't even have noticed myself , but it was a cheap part. Ive never been that impressed by the shocks performance though, maybe its the mrp progressive coil thats holding it back?
Good to hear it lasted. The small stanchion made me nervous. I only use a progressive spring as a band aide, not a first choice. Very likely that is what held it back, it greatly improved after the EXT spring. The Ohlins spring might be better, but the yellow is gross 🤮.
If you can, get a Fox dhx2 and have it tuned by Fluid Focus with a Super Alloy Racing spring. They have custom bumpers and valving along with DLC shaft that fully transform the fox. I can’t say that I’ve ridden a better coil shock. Of course, with all the customization it will probably be closer to the cost of the EXT. Maybe worth a try?
Obviously, you're not as heavy a rider as you think, which is a good thing because every video and online review says this shock is sh++ for heavier riders. But I trust your reviews. I'm looking for a new shock to replace my Float X on my new e-bike. I don't like it. I can't get it set right for my weight. It's so hard, but it has to be to get the sag. But apparently, there's a 0.9 token in the thing on the fox ID so I'm wondering if a 0.6 or 0.7 would help. I still want a coil as well, though. I might try the X2 first.
How much do you weigh and bike? Skip the X2 unless you want a headache. Float X .6 or .7 token I have half a dozen videos on it. The EXT is shit unless you under spring it read the other guys comment. If your heavy go with a coil. Air shock’s stop working for people around 220 lb. I’m right at the cut off weight. You can use negative tokens to make them work, but they are severely limited when you install them
I think your on to something there. Pretty sure he’s said he broke a few coils before, I thought how’d he do that I’ve never seen that and I’ve been known to break some stuff. Probably running too short spring and too soft setup searching for that small bump sensitivity it fatigues and snap on big bottom out
Buddy I belive it is M.1 shock tho. I have 3 shocks now, there are TTX M.1, Voro Coil, and Storia V.2 . They are all exellence, but my most favorite one is TTX M.1
Yes, the dhx2 has cavitation problems.. Slurping and sloshing sound when compressed eventually. Just like my old DPX2. I have the ohlins ttx now so see how that goes.
How does Öhlins's bottom out bumper compare to HBO? I have a Nukeproof mega (2021+) which is quite linear ~20% progression and wondering if the big bunper is enought. Can get one on sale for 570 €
It should work the HSC is strong, worse case you ad in progressive coil. The Sprindex is progressive which I was using and didn’t fully need it. The expensive damper like ohlins should be fine, cheap shock like RockShox you need to add progressive coil
I wonder what EXT means by proprietary "exotic alloy" how I see it they suggest it would be MP35N (meh) or maraging steel (probably) it's certainly not tantalum or whatever corrosion resistant exotic alloy used for springs, let me doubt about the proprietary part 😂 Anyway they're good springs indeed.
I own both the push and storia v3 and prefer the ext. The push is more damped compared to the ext which js great for proper dh but makes the bike feel dead (yeti 160e) on regular trails .
The EXT has so much mid stroke support you have to under spring it to make it work so ya, it pops up like Push. 2nd comment explained it perfectly. The real key is Ohlins and ext use a bladder,
Dude, the Keveno is NOT a 230x65mm, it is 230 x 62.5mm. With your channel emphasizing suspension you should know the stroke length. Stock shock from Specialized: Fox Performance Level DPX2, 3 position lever, 230 x 62.5mm
Ohlins is like the RockShox of the boutique market. Simple and easy to setup. They could make the best shock ever made, but it’s a dumbed down for mass market. And it’s still too 4 shocks ever made 6 years later
Check out the Ohlins shock here shorturl.at/FPjx3
Love my TTX2 air! Blows almost every other shock I’ve tried out of the water

You have gotta get onto the Vorsprung Telum as well if you are looking at build qualities. It's supposedly a twin tube like the TTX.
$1500 is a steep, but they make good stuff.

I never could get the feeling right the olhins shock or fork when I had the enduro ohlins edition. Always fekt to soft and slow!

Cool never heard of them, just checked the spring.
When You say short coils aee better, You should try H&R springs sold with adapters. I don't know if they are availible in USA, but worth checking,)
Low key disappointed you didn’t nerd out and open it up 😢 ohlins ttx service video?
I get wrecked doing those, learning curve, new tools. Also couldn’t find instructions. But I fully wanted to
Is there a big difference between TTX2M and TTX2M2? Is it worth spending $400 more on the latest version (M2)?
Now I'm thinking about this one instead of Vivid and EXT. You had an m.2 version or the older one TTX22M?
M2. They are all amazing

Coil length: needs to be long enough so it won't bind before the shocks travel.

I looked into it some more the short spring is fine, just needs the right spacing

How is its climbing performance? In Addition which front fork suspension did you use?
I’m on a Ebike so this is hrs to judge. Some of the ohlins shocks have climb switch mine was 3 position hsc
Formula MOD shock would be interesting.
They dropped a new yoke bike friendly shock, it is one of the few with a bladder so it will ride good
Do a review on the DHX2 factory!!!!

230 anything fits, I usually run 230x57.5 with 29 wheels but your right. Mine came with a Super deluxe.
Long vs short springs, they have different frequencies.
Explain more please I can’t find anything on it, short is better
No thanks on that boutique shock. I'll stick to the tried and true rockshox deluxe coil.
Öhlins have been the best for over 70 years, world cups in pretty much every sport that uses suspension. I think that's tried and true.
