I swear they intentionally troll us Americans for our poor pronunciation. There's no other reason for them to consistently screw up as much as they do.
There are 5 records displayed on the wall in Rob's apartment, which can be seen briefly after Laura leaves at the beginning of the movie. We can assume that these are Rob's personal Top 5 Favorite Albums, although this is not one of the "top 5" topics discussed over the course of the film. These records (from left to right) are "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, "Tonight's the Night" by Neil Young, "Wild Honey" by The Beach Boys, "Goo" by Sonic Youth, and "Double Nickels on the Dime" by Minutemen.
@@Merylstreep1949 As am I! I was getting pissed about this whole video. Between the mispronunciation of John Cusack's name to our cities, all I could do was cringe! 😖😖😖
Tim Robbins didn't have a cameo in the film, he had a supporting role in the film. A cameo is a short scene. As in 1 brief scene, not multiple short scenes. Tim Robbins was in more than one scene.
Tenacious D also played the wrap party in Chicago at House of Blues, June 1999. And the Grosse Pointe connection is stronger than mentioned as the three writers of Grosse Point Blank were also the three writers of High Fidelity adapted screenplay.
I gave this a thumbs down for no other reason than the butchering of John Cusack's last name. It may be a little strict, but you people are never going to learn otherwise.
The inclusion of the Chandlers Notebook is wildly impressive. Wow. JC and I are 4 years apart and I attended a nearby school. I hit this video because I'm bored during quarantine and wanted to reminisce expecting nothing more than the patently obvious. And from the moment this vid begins, it was as though I was back home back then. I'd love to know who the producer of this is...The Chandlers Notebook was the NS staple. I'm impressed.
In the film, when referring to his ex, Rob says the line: “Some people never got over Vietnam or the night their band opened for Nirvana. I guess I never got over Charlie.” But in the book the lines is - “the night their band opened for Dr. Feelgood” I much prefer the books reference as the whole point of the Championship Vinyl workers is that they are Music snobs so it makes far more sense they’d reference Dr. Feelgood over Nirvana (also when you consider Barry mocks Rob for choosing a Nirvana track on one of his top 5 lists for being to mainstream, just a few minutes later further proves my point as to why that reference feels out of place)
The conversation between Rob and Barry is two music snobs verbally sparring, which is why Nirvana is seen as 'obvious'. The monologue you are talking about is to do with someone not being able to get over a major event in their lives, always living in the shadow of that event. So while the Feelgood reference absolutely makes more sense if you are Rob, if you are trying to get this point across to an audience, using Nirvana instead is much better.
never gets stale. so many movies are a rewatch in my life, but over time i find myself fastforwarding through certain slower scenes but not High Fidelity.
I thought a cameo is the appearance of a celebrity as themselves in a movie. So Springsteen made a cameo appearance, Robbins had a small role. Am I wrong?
I read the book after seeing the movie a few times. I was surprised to find in the book that Laura had no lines. I don't think she actually had a conversation with Rob the entire book. I could be wrong, but point still valid. Laura in the movie has tons more dialog than the book.
Just a thought, you can make another video like this only with music references in the covers of the vinyl that are shown in the record store, from King Crimson to Mutantes ( 2 of my favorites bands of all times, Yes, I AM a Brazilian !!!! )
So there are 11 dislikes for this video. What, exactly is there to dislike. Perhaps you never saw High Fidelity, but that doesn’t seem to be a good reason to dislike the video. It’s near damn perfect :) Thanks Josh!
Sin #1 - A Chicago film, referencing breaking the fourth wall, and you talk about "Alfie" instead of Ferris? Sin #2 - Pronouncing the main actor's name wrong Sin #3 - Pronouncing his sister's name wrong Sin #4 - Mispronouncing Harold Ramis's name Sin #5 - "fans's" ?? Sin #6 - Tim Robbins played a full part in the movie, not just a cameo. Many lines. Many scenes. Sin #7 - Regina Skeptor??? Sin #8 - "coral" him? Sin #9 - "Eeeevanston, IL?"
What is it with WhatCulture and their apparent inability to research the correct pronunciation of names and stuff. Who the hell is John Kew-shack? At this point I am prepared to believe that they are deliberately trolling their audience.
I ( a 65 year old guy) own a copy of High Fidelity & was thinking of watching it tonight, 01/16/2021, & yes, the film would not be the same w/out Jack Black.......
This was a abit spooky. Only started to binge watch the High Fidelity series last night. And this video is the first thing I see when I go on youtube. Think this real life / Matrix has developed targeted ad's.
I've always thought the movie, in Chicago, could be seen as an incidental sequel to Ferris Bueller...if Sloane broke up with Ferris at the end of the summer.
Writer Harry Stephen Keeler called Chicago the London of the west. Keeler is sort of a cult writer from Chicago. He would have appreciated this adaptation.
So, I find it funny that they did not mention the other John Cusack film reference in the dialogue. There is a line where Laura says something about Rob not having changed so much as a pair of socks since they started dating. This is a reference to one of John’s earlier movies where the protagonist showers in his socks because he thinks they are lucky and that if he ever changes them his relationship with his girlfriend will end. If that line is also in the book, that’s cool, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that John wrote that line in himself.
Even though I loved the movie I wish it was a British made film. It just lost something when it switched from London. How good would it had been if it had the same feeling has Fever Pitch.
I remember me and my parents wanting to walk out of it cos it didnt hit the mark with us. Cant remember much of what happened but it was confusing as a 15 year old. John Cusack talking to the camera so much and being mostly miserable was the worst part, so depressing. Jack Black was probably the highlight for his energy and musicality. Might revisit it to at least hear the soundtrack and try to work out if time has helped it make more sense.
The way he’s saying Cusack is making my head hurt.
I made it to 2 minutes and 50 seconds...and I can't take no more.
I swear they intentionally troll us Americans for our poor pronunciation. There's no other reason for them to consistently screw up as much as they do.
Qshack
@@sarkastro Gotta be trolling.
He occasionally accidentally pronounced it correctly, making it even worse!
WHY ARE YOU PRONOUNCING CUSACK LIKE THAT SIR
I adore this movie. One of the the few movies that no matter how many times one watches it. It never gets stale.
Amen

Rob definitely seems like a double nickels on the dime and goo type of guy
No Marvin Gaye??!!!…Inconceivable!
It's like the only person he's ever heard say the name Cusack is Seán Connery.
🤣😂
🤣
One of my favourite movies EVER! And yes, now I will absolutely rewatch it for the 20th Anniversary ❤
Who is this Q Shack you are talking about?
Not to be mistaken with Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter.... damn! I'm getting angered by the mispronunciations! 🤬🤬🤬
It's where Jon De Lancie hangs out
Cusack doesn’t have an h in it.
Also the town is EVAN-stun.
I'm from WHEAton
Was just about to comment this from "SHOM-Burg"
And marriage isn't spelled "marraige".
Yeah just said that myself, originally being from Illinois myself...lol😸👍☕👌

thank you!
Oh wow you mentioned the chandlers notebook!! ❤️ I was a freshman when he was a senior at Evanston Township HS. We all had one of those.
The book is amazing. The film is just as good, it really works. Cusack is amazing making the forth wall breaking look natural.
Tenacious D also played the wrap party in Chicago at House of Blues, June 1999. And the Grosse Pointe connection is stronger than mentioned as the three writers of Grosse Point Blank were also the three writers of High Fidelity adapted screenplay.
Grosse Pointe is a way better movie
One of the few movies I wished for a sequel. Lots of fun and Cusack and Minnie Driver had palpable chemistry.
You're saying Jack Black wrong. It's Jack Blach.
For the record, the correct pronunciation of John's last name is Cue-Zack.
I graduated from high school in 1985. I felt old long before this.
One of my all time favorite films. I already knew some of these, but still an enjoyable watch.
One of my all-time fav movies. Love love love it. Jack Black was genius in it, John Cusack one of my fav actors - everyone was perfectly cast. ♥♥♥
I gave this a thumbs down for no other reason than the butchering of John Cusack's last name. It may be a little strict, but you people are never going to learn otherwise.
Do I feel old? Will I rewatch today? I do. I will.
The sound quality is fine. I didn't find a problem with it. But, like Cwn 41 says: The pronunciation of Cusack's surname got under my skin too
Vintage Vinyl, too!! You did your homework! Double Door and Lounge Ax were real Live music bars/venues. Bringing me back to my youth. ❤️
Rob's integrated amplifier is a Sansui AU-7700. Fun info!

Josh: love ya, but "Evanston" has a short e sound, like 'ever'
Q Shack is really hard to deal with.

Saw this in the theater. I was in love with all his exes, as well as, and especially, Natasha Gregson Wagner.
This reminds me that soon it's 20 years since Napoleon Dynamite was released. WhatCulture! Time to start researching that video now!
Hungary needs to get educated about Evil Dead 2.
Thank you for doing this list...this is one of my all time top five movies and yes good god I feel old now😂
High Fidelity is a film, music fans should watch once every few years for sure.

Nice job, Josh(?) - This is one of my favorite movies. Fun to get some extra tidbits I didn't know about.
I haven’t seen High Fidelity....yet.

The way he pronounces Cusack, had to switch off it was so annoying
I do feel old. I remember watching this movie with my ex girlfriend and I just saw her recently. I can't believe it is 20 years ago
One of the best John Cusack movies together with Say anything and grosse pointe black.
Yeah I feel old, but I am even older than this movie as I was born in late 70's and this movie came out in 2000.
Yep. I was adult when this film came out.
The pronunciation of the lead actor's surname makes me want a sequel to Space Jam with John Cusack playing Shaquille O'Neal
This is my favorite movie/book/series.
Who is this Cooshack of which you speak?
I like the more subtle mispronunciation of corral!
Ha! Heard that too. What is coral-ing someone I wonder? Smacking them with a chunk of the Great Barrier Reef?
Sin #1 - A Chicago film, referencing breaking the fourth wall, and you talk about "Alfie" instead of Ferris?
Sin #2 - Pronouncing the main actor's name wrong
Sin #3 - Pronouncing his sister's name wrong
Sin #4 - Mispronouncing Harold Ramis's name
Sin #5 - "fans's" ??
Sin #6 - Tim Robbins played a full part in the movie, not just a cameo. Many lines. Many scenes.
Sin #7 - Regina Skeptor???
Sin #8 - "coral" him?
Sin #9 - "Eeeevanston, IL?"
Tim Robbins as "Ray"? I could have sworn he was Ian, as in: "WHAT FUCKING IAN GUY?" (8:20)
His full name was Ian Raymond. Laura called him Ray because she "hated Ian."
Cue-SHACK?
John Cuscheck reminds me a lot of John Cusack.
So I´m 20 years older today because my memories of seeing this movie on a theater are kinda vivid.
1:16 Jack Black has spoken about why he didn’t want to do the role initially. Clips of it are on RUclips.
what? Twenty years?Already?I was old when this came out.
What is it with WhatCulture and their apparent inability to research the correct pronunciation of names and stuff. Who the hell is John Kew-shack? At this point I am prepared to believe that they are deliberately trolling their audience.
I feel like they do it on purpose.
Murgon Treloar they mispronounce in maybe 90% of their videos
I ( a 65 year old guy) own a copy of High Fidelity & was thinking of watching it tonight, 01/16/2021, & yes, the film would not be the same w/out Jack Black.......
The name of Cusak's hometown is pronounced "'Evan'-ston" Like the name Evan not "'Even'-ston" like he is saying it
Love the Q Shack!

High Fidelity was a hit for The Kids From Fame!
Never seen this movie. Think I might give it a watch. Is it better than my favouritest John Cusack movie, Better Off Dead?
"Regina Skeptor"
I've always thought the movie, in Chicago, could be seen as an incidental sequel to Ferris Bueller...if Sloane broke up with Ferris at the end of the summer.
The D’Angelo scene is in the final cut
I knew these things. Also, his name is not ''Q Shack''.
Ok lad little lesson here Cusack is an irish name..............Q. Zack..........good night from co Tipperary.
Is it literally as easy as reading the IMDB trivia page?
It's pronounced Cue Zack... John Cusack
You misspelled Springsteen
Please know It is John. Cu- sack not John Cu- shack.....
Number 18....did anyone really not know the original book was set in London?
I was surprised that made the list too, given how well known Nick Hornby is.
Even Stan High School?
Why do you keep saying ‘Qshack’??
thanks ami
My favorite movie!
Wow, what a mess. In addition to the mispronunciation, marriage was misspelled on a title card.
Cue-shack? WTF, dude?

Much better looking though..

Mr. John Q. Shack
The only thing I’ll remember about this video is your dreadful pronunciation of John’s name. I was cringing every time you said it.
Same.
Good list, to accompany a good movie, so not trying to be petty, but Josh is struggling w/ "Evanston" too.

More people recognize Springsteen.
I love this movie but I'm really hesitant to watch the new show

CuSCHak? 🤔
