This was my game of last year. Playing with pause, instead of slowdown suited me more. Renaming my characters as their abilities, eg. Sniper Hacker meant I didn't need to remember who had what perk. Upgrade pouches first on every character to carry and retrieve more. Only use characters with negative traits removed, call it cheating but you can reload the save at these points for different perk offers and next day options. Put each character voices on option 2, far less annoying. Zoom all the way out to pick a waypoint that is a good distance. I did each level all in one go, where possible, rather than lots of return missions, preventing advance of the doom clock. Getting in an elevator auto saves for free. Oh and you unlock the proper APC vehicle later on. Loved it. I'd love to see Order 1886 and Killzone get tactics offerings (wishful thinking though). That PS5 Killzone Liberation port was a banger tho. Did the PS4/PS5 plats back to back.
Killzone Tactics OMG .....what great idea, that lift auto save is genius ! is there anything further on the kidnapping mechanic ? And what an amazing comment, thank you for the detail !
@@CouchCoop128 Kidnapping just kills a character if you don't rescue them in time. Having a Sniper is the way to go. If you have characters that generate additional action/refresh points and reduced alien awareness, then you can stealth whole areas with one shot sniper kills. If you like stealth then it is an option and really helps keep your squad from stressing out.
If you love Geiger's work and have some nostalgia for the stylish but frustrating Darkseed, then you should consider SCORN on PS5 (also xbox/PC). The graphical and audio fidelity are quite staggering. A real love letter the Geiger's artwork. First person, slow paced exploration. I'm only a couple hours in, having just got it in the psn sale (£20). Common complaints boil down to not having patience and the combat. Combat can be largely avoided by just not initiating. Creatures will leave you alone if you stay out of their way! Really worth a punt for the older Alien fan who wanted to explore the derelict more.
I just checked in on your channel and was thrilled to see another fantastic review! It's funny because I've been interested in this game for a while and just as I was thinking about it, you covered it in your video. The game's atmosphere and world design look amazing!
I finally bought a PS5 today and this is one of the first few games I'm gonna play. Picked it up on sale a couple months ago, but my family got me a Nintendo Switch for Christmas and let's face it, Breath of the Wild is about as un-put-down-able as video games get. I'm currently downloading this game, Elden Ring, and No Man's Sky. I'm gonna hit Elden Ring first, natch, but I'll definitely get around to Dark Descent in the next day or two. Thanks for being awesome, man. This is my favorite gaming channel on RUclips, hands down.
Massive Aliens fan so bought the game on release. Definitely captures the films ascetic and tension. I played it to completion and thoroughly enjoyed the tactical experience.
@@CouchCoop128 Id not seen the AI stuff before, looked pretty good though. I quite liked some of the concept art for the Alien 5 film that never got made. Hicks looked cool with the scared face.
Excellent Video Man. I love Turnbased/Tactical Games, the only problem i am pants at Playing them lol but doesn't stop my enjoyment tho. It'll definitely be better Playing on PC, i think pretty much all Turnbased/Tactical Games are best on PC but it is more than capable on the PS5 tho.
not so sure on console, i tried iron harvest and if there’s one genre that doesn’t work well on pad it’s rts. xcom controls are better i argue on console but rts… maybe on discount
It honestly didn’t effect me playing on ps5. The marines AI going a little rouge was more of a problem at times. Definitely worth a look though if you like turn based tactical games and the Aliens universe, especially if discounted.
How are the controls on console? I am always wary about playing games like this (baldurs gate, diablo, wasteland, and others) on console. Are the controls intuitive on controller? Or are they cumbersome and difficult?
I actually play Diablo 4 on a pad through choice ! I would prefer this on a mouse though, when things get in a panic, those short cuts are well confusing, appreciate the view and comment 🙏
@@CouchCoop128 yeah diablo 4 is possible on controller. Item management might take longer. But the combat isn't impacted like the actual gameplay. I have wasteland 2 on ps4/ps5, and it is hard to play with using controller too many commands using a controller to move each character is not smooth. I also have wasteland 2 on pc, and it feels perfect to control. I'm just worried that all the glowing reviews for aliens dark descent are based on pc version. Or people who have never played on pc and don't know the difference between mouse and keyboard vs controller. A few reviews with controller say it's workable because you are controlling the whole squad as a unit and not individually. Unlike a true turn based tactical game like xcom (even though I see positive reviews for it on console) or games like wasteland 2 This concern is the main reason that I am hesitant to buy this game on ps5. And you're one of the few reviewers who reviewed the console version. If you can add any extra details about how it controls on controller, I'd appreciate it. Is it tedious to use an analog stick to command them to move? Are the shortcuts also cumbersome? I was thinking that maybe since you control the team as "one character" instead of individually, it might be functional on controller? My "gaming" laptop was a piece of crap back then and can't even handle the games it barely ran anymore. So I'm a console peasant at the moment until I can buy a real gaming pc (never get a "gaming" laptop waste of money, costs more, and is weaker)
Descent is ok on the controller, just. once the brain has mapped everything. then when things go south you don't screw up, it does feel like the meta game is designed for a mouse though, I play Halo wars 2 on a pad, that game feels like the controller was taken into account, Descent would run on a gaming laptop? im pretty sure, you should get Dawn of war 2 going 🤣🙏 ruclips.net/video/7WjCjxkD2Qc/видео.html
@@CouchCoop128 my "gaming laptop" could barely run diablo 3 and fallout new vegas when I got it in 2015. Nvidia 850M (that M) makes it weaker than Nvidia 260 gtx. I got scammed by the Frys salesman that it could play today's games because the number was high like the regular Nvidia back then. So you're saying once you get used to the controls on controller, the gameplay becomes manageable? By going south you mean not getting the hang of the controls on controller or did you mean even if you Map the controls in your brain during heavy combat, it'll still go south aka bad? Or once you learn the controls it's fine. Not outstanding like mouse and keyboard but manageable? Sorry for repeat, you're one of the few reviewers that reviewed using console. So I'm very interested in your take
No not yet.... I'm a huge fan of the series... Especially the first 2 of course... I even liked the 3rd one.. the 4 was meh.... Prometheus was frustrating because it could have been so much better.....it's another one of those frustrating movies series they just pounded into the dirt... My outlook as changed from I hope.this move is good to I hope it doesn't suck....
@@7450gwar101 "the 4 was meh" Oh, boy... Not because of your opinion but because - no spoilers - Anyways, I did enjoyed Romulus. It does have some great cinematography here and there, and some cool and even inventive Alien action for sure. And at least it brought the series back to basics. To the more serious and intimate tone of Alien/Alien 3. Not perfect, but close enough. It did felt more like it took heavy inspirations from the Novels primarily. And that main character even kinda looks like Elizabeth Winstead, which in turn looks like she could play Amanda Ripley - Ellen Ripley's daughter - on account of how close she resembles Sigourney Weaver. Google Elizabeth Winstead movie 'Kate' to see how she could absolutely play Ripley's daughter. Especially while wearing that Green Jacket. I wouldn't mind this director making it a Trilogy and see where he leads the franchise. At least it wasn't the cluster fudge that Prometheus and Covenant were. So there's that.
Great game, my only flaw I found was, once the aliens spot you it's kinda game over as each interaction increases the chance of a hoard ridiculously fast. Shoot one enemy and it's instant carnage for the player making you head back to the ship and lose a day. But great game , I've invested a good 20hrs.
@CouchCoop128 completed the game and was alot more fun thanks to your tips. Your right as your marines become experienced, the alien threat is manageable. Spent of of the time near the end just mowing them down. I lost one marine on the entire campaign and that was due to a losing a deployment and having to make a choice. Overall a great game and a defo worth a replay considering you can keep your marines from the old save with levels in tact. Cheers buddy. Your guide was an asset to me.
All seemed smooth sailing through until controlling drone to scout ahead and got spotted. The glaring issue with that is the entire team was attacked although the drone was distant from the team. This, broke the game and immersion for me, completely. Uninstalled it for good. That alone simply didn't make any common sense game mechanics design.
