I feel really sorry for Hao Jia. At the beginning I thought her choice was stupid even though I understood her point of view, but now I'm extremely impressed that she accepts she was wrong and has never shifted the blame on anyone else. She's also not resentful toward her friends because they live better than her and is happy for them. I hope she can break free somehow, with help.

I love superintendent Su, he's such a wonderful uncomplicated character. Zheng landed a goldmine when Su was assigned to look after him from childhood!
Su mentioned Zheng saving him from Song. I wish we got more details on that. He's fortunate to not be with 2nd, 4th, or even 3rd Prince. Zheng and 7th are probably the best because they're nice, honest, and intelligent. 5th is cool too, but he's so silly. Like the people around 3rd, his servants probably roll their eyes a lot. lol

His baby was finally happy. 😭 I love that he stayed honest and kind instead of secretly plotting to dominate after 6th started rising in the court. The Emperor had a good assistant with him too. They really showed the maids and eunuchs of the palace as being good people who cared about the people they served.
I remember that at first, I used to think that Hao Jia would eventually be that friend who starts nice and sweet, hiding schemes and ambitions, and who would become a backstabber towards the FL for ambition (the fact that she had married the second prince simply for interest strengthened my belief...) I'm glad the screenwriting didn't take that stereotypical road for her and at the same time, i'm heartbroken to see how it turned out for her 😢 (and when she says "it’s my karma for having picked up this road..." 😭)
It's so refreshing to see and shows that just because you had a bad childhood you can still not hold resentment and have even a bigger heart as a result. So beautiful to see that Hao Jia can see the bigger picture.
Yes. And thankfully this show skipped most of the ‘evil concubine’ cliches that are over used in too many Asian dramas. As much as liked the Story of Minglan and the Sword and the Brocade I really was uncomfortable with the negative vibe of those characters. There was too big a dose of screaming and nastiness. Of course this sweet show is not an historical drama like those others. It is more in the classification of a ‘comedy of manners’ which is different from a straight out comedy like the Legendary Life of Queen Lau.🤪

Thanks for recommending a comedy because all the schemes and murders can get repetitive and draining in typical palace dramas. I started with Ruyi, and though it's beautiful my heart broke every few episodes.
@@hpr2008 Minglan is really good other than having the evil concubine - but that is a major part of the plot and it is more realistic. The good thing with Minglan is that most of the sad stuff happens at the beginning. And they have the girls playing polo! Please avoid Song of Glory if you need a happy ending - it was all around awful - I am not sure why I watched the whole series. 🥸 I just enjoyed watching Imperial Coroner which was murder mystery combined with a good political scheming plot and a sweet romance. The Lady from the Butcher Shop (?) was good too - more of a comedy and romance - but the English subs are poor so I had to repeat spots a lot to find out what was going on!

The Fifth Prince, Yin Qi, character development and relationship development are definitely my favorite upon re-watching the series. I was really invested in the Sixth Prince and Li Wei upon my first watch. But after re-watching it, Yin Qi has grown on me a lot. He's not good looking, or smart. But he is clearly devoted and loyal to those close to him. The way he defends his sister from being sent to Mo State and cares of the Sixth Prince is actually very touching considering he's party of the royal family and grow up in the palace where people are treated like commodities. Also, his clear investment in his relationship with JingJing after he succeeds in winning her forgiveness is heartwarming considering he grew up in a very strict, patriarchial society. He really does his best to meet his wife halfway and show his dedication to living harmoniously with her. And lastly, the shift in his perspective of how he treats Hao Jia is really great to see. He goes from fetishizing and romanticising her as a potential love interest to respecting her as his sister-in-law and showing genuine concern towards his newborn niece. The fifth prince is clearly an individual who values the relationships with the women his life and this becomes a lot more apparent throughout the show. He goes from being a skirt-chaser to being a caring family man and I am all for it.
I recall another TV series when it was playing on TV, viewers hated the actor who played the villain so much, they supposedly threw insults at him when they saw they him out in public. Thankfully, the actor took it as a compliment. Some say it's easy to play the hero but difficult to play a good villain.

He's the "invisible" prince, but Li Wei is so loveable her friends and connections have come in handy. For example, her friends were the only ones who showed up when he established his secretariat. His own brothers were scared to come and used their wives as an excuse to show up behind them. If not for her, little 11th would've been the only brother to come.
He became stronger because he was not cuddle, what was done to him in childhood made him stronger all around. He can physically fight better than the other siblings.
I am loving all the relationships and character developments (except for Crown Prince). Especially how 5th Prince is now in love with Shang Guan. Anyways, Yin Zheng is so cute with the excitement of opening the gift. 💕

Yeah. Can anybody explain why it is that in nearly all these Asian dramas very often an actor's breath is visible?? It must mean the atmosphere is cold & damp - even inside the buildings!! You look at the behind the scene clip and the cast & crew are wearing coats & jackets - even inside!

I think in alot of America ones at least that their scenes are in inside, even in large areas that don't look like a set but are with air conditioned environments or even outside sets not in buildings but still have heated areas.
Filming in huge spaces, palaces, mansions, inns, hardly heated because of the costs happens very often in the historical cdramas, as we can see. It must be very chilly and uncomfortable for the actors, but the scenarios demand those vast buildings, lounges, stables, warehouses build for the purpose, made of wood for authenticity and very difficult to heat too. When the action is taking place outside in the cold, we see fur lined coats, cloaks with hoods worn on top of the robes, but in interior scenes the damp and maybe the frosty air of those huge rooms make their breath visible at times. IMO
the crown lord and his vultures are so annoying bro like how stupid his actions but he thinks he's hot. he spends all his time riding 6s 9 instead of doing good deeds, why not just step down. it's easier. i love the relationship with the 3 brothers it is so funny and heart warming.
I think not many have realized how much this series is mirroring usual tropes but swapping the genders. Usually, we see men working hard to achieve success and, when they are bothered by someone, their wives would plan tricks to have others help them, sometimes going to the lady of the house asking for help. Here we see a few successful women hindered by ignorant men and their HUSBANDS are begging the lord for justice.

Can’t believe she left the needle inside the boot 😂.

The only thing I don’t like about this is that the wives are more attentive and spends most of their time in the business than their spouses. Instead of letting them (husband) know of their feelings like the wives of the 3rd prince be it may that he treats them unfairly or he talks too much, communication is very important in a marriage. The wives should do their duly responsibilities to their husbands and likewise with the husbands. I know everyone has to work but family time is the best time.
