My Dad is originally from Latvia. He and family had to leave during WWII, but whenever we visit Latvia, we take trips to Estonia/Finland or Lithuania. Tallinn is such a beautiful city and is one of my favorites because I love all things Medieval, and it is loaded with it! Tallinn and Riga both have these Medieval restaurants with candlelight only. Rosengrals in Riga, and Olde Hansa in Tallinn. Olde Hansa is three floors that you explore upward. Rosengrals, you descend stairs to a cellar and have all kinds of hidden dining areas with ancient brick walls and vaulted ceilings.
@@JordanandEmily Yes, the first time we were there we only sat and dined on the first level, but later we learned that it is very large dining experience! It is an historical warehouse.
visited tallinn there in July last year while on a cruise holiday, its a beautiful city, with that old medieval charm feeling, would liked too have spent more time exploring tallinn.
Agreed! I was there a few days after the 1st as part of my trip to Finland and this was definitely one of the best highlights of my trip. Tallinn, Estonia is AMAZING!! Loved it! Even stumbled upon and went to that same cafe....Annnd...I got the spinach cheese thing and a hot chocolate too! Haha
@@JordanandEmily haha the hot chocolate was delicious. It was a special flavor ruby red. I think it was tiny red marshmallows on top tasted like raspberries. Thanks for doing this video!
The 3 Dragons and Olde Hansa are the same establishment - my wife used to work in the latter. Everybody has their personalities they have to represent according to the post they are working on. The position for the 3 Dragons lady is a special one, in which she has to be rude and abrupt. The position's name translated means Tavern's hag :)
I've been to 13 countries so far and I was also in Tallinn last September. Even though I only spent one and half day there, I consider it as my favorite city so far. Your video really made me want to visit Tallinn again....Thanks for the video, now I'm gonna cry for a bit....
I spent a month in Tallinn in 2022. The old town is interesting as far as the architecture and the city walls go, but all the places there were very touristy, expensive and artificial. But it depends on what you're looking for, I guess. My recommendations, if you want something a bit different are: Telliskivi creative city - an old industrial complex near the main train station that was turned into a place where you can find really cool restaurants, art galleries, theater, bars and things like that. There is also a hotel there where all the rooms are shipping containers and it's very cool. Linnahall - an massive old Soviet concrete structure on the coast, that contains a big concert hall. It's closed now and kind of falling apart, but you can still walk on top of it and see the city and the North sea. The ferry terminals - there is a really cool walkway that takes you right up to the ferry terminals and docks, there is a cafe at the end and you can hang out and watch the giant ships. The Muuseumilaevad - a naval museum inside of an old Soviet hangar, there's a big submarine you can go into, and a lot of other naval stuff. Baalti Jaama Turg - a big market near the main train station that has different food places, clothes, handmade stuff, and a big part of it are antiques, mostly old Soviet things. Sveta Baar - a cool underground music venue, I saw some great punk and metal shows there. Cheap beer and interesting people. Pööbel - a cozy pub with good beer, not too expensive. They make a great burger with Estonian beef, best burger I had in Tallinn. I'm sure I could think of a few more things... Oh, and it's REALLY COLD. I was there in April and I was freezing the entire time. The weather was great, it was sunny almost every day, but there's like a polar breeze blowing the entire time. The food and beer in the shops is not expensive, but the restaurant are really expensive, so choose carefully where you're going to eat.
When we did a Baltic cruise 3 years ago, Tallin was my favourite as you know because I still talk about how amazing it is now. We were only there for a day in June which wasn’t long enough but we had beautiful weather and we were able to walk around & explore the cobbled streets but the snow covered roofs looked really pretty. I just loved the history and the architecture in the old town. Now you know why I talk about the epothicary (pharmacy/museum) so much it’s because it’s the oldest pharmacy in Europe & it has all these crazy remedies that’ll fix you right up. We also went in the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin (I had to google it because I forgot what it was called) which was built in the 13th century, that’s really really old. Inside the walls were filled with epitaphs, pews that had little doors either side so you were sitting in your own private area (early VIP seating) and these huge pipes where the organist would belt out the hymns of the day. It’s a shame you didn’t get to experience that and also going up the towers and walking around the wall. Next time you’ll have to go in the summer and maybe we’ll come with you. Jordan may need to replace his favourite t-shirt that I bought him by then. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx🛡️⚔️
I was in Tallinn in 2011 on my own for a concert. Lovely, lovely place. Really loved their strawberry A Le Coq cider. Went to Olde Hansa for dessert one day. They also sold some delicious sugared almonds. My sister would have loved that old pharmacy.
Im so happy atleast someone visited our country. I live like a 2 hour drive from Tallinn. In Estonia there is a city called pärnu its very small but very cool thing there!
I have the aircon while watching you in the snow so I feel like I'm there. When you were at the 2nd medieval place I heard something about a bear steak? That sent my partner down a rabbit hole about what bear tastes like and apparently bears that have recently eaten berries for e.g. are good but bears that have recently eaten fish don't taste very good.
Hi! The name of the pharmacy you visited is Raeapteek and it's the oldest business in Tallinn and also one of the oldest European pharmacies that has been open all the time until today, i.e. more than 600 years! In the Middle Ages, there were some kind of strange treatments, which are also introduced and exhibited in the museum of this pharmacy. For example, hedgehog urine was used as eye drops.😊

In my opinion it’s time to let Estonia be a nice small Nordic country. Estonia very deserves to be a Nordic country, because Estonia has done a lot of work, we have many smart people, we are good at digital things, we have northern lights and we are very similar to Finland and other Nordic countries like: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Greenland. We are not similar to Latvia and Lithuania and the other Eastern Europe countries. It’s time to stop calling Estonia Eastern Europe country and Baltic country and forget all this terrible, rude and mean Soviet times. Let’s just stop this Eastern Europe and Soviet stigma thing and let Estonia turn the new page and let them be a normal small Nordic country next to Sweden and Finland!!! Estonians call themselves the Nordic country and many other people and tourists had also said that Estonia should be a Nordic country, because Estonian people are Finnic people not Balts and we are more similar to Scandinavia. Yes many people had agreed with that Estonia must belong to the Nordic group and seperate from Latvia and Lithuania. They don’t even need these countries, because Estonians communicate more with Finns and other Scandinavian countries. Estonia will be a very good partner for the other Nordic countries. We will do a very great work and we will be very strong!!! 🥰🙏
