Great virtuosic musical tonality, extremely mature and diverse in vibrato and sound quality taste. Such a genuine shame that he wasn’t able to get a higher prize.

This one was my favorite of the entire competition. That sound..

My god! He played with Saint Saens Violin Concerto No.3 with such passion! My body reacted before I did and I started crying.

I wonder if Kento's score marks were hurt not as a result of his playing performance, but from his selection of pieces. He chose the Kreisler Gypsy Caprice in the finals after already playing it in the opening round. Did the jurors hold that against him on his scores?

Probably, it might have docked him a couple marks which at this stage of the competition is a lot. Always safer to not reuse a piece in a multi-round competition.

I don’t think it will dock him points - in the program it says that they are allowed to “select a piece of repertoire from a precious round if (they) wish”

@@tylermoore8218 Yes, but if the judges are the same each round it tends to negatively reflect upon the competitor. It's one of the reasons why most professors advise against it and why we rarely see competitors repeat pieces within a competition.

Beautiful playing, wonderful sound and vibrato reminiscent of Heifetz.
Almost in a style from the past, which was refreshing to hear. I wonder was it the reason he didn't do better with the judge's.
