Coming from someone that knows great violin playing, that means a lot to me, and I know it will to Hannah too. I bet you recognized some phrasing, bowing and fingerings! Thank you, Eric.
You play with such confidence and passion! My favourite was Ysaÿe - Solo Sonata No. 3 in D minor “Ballade” . Just beautiful! What kind of violin do you play on?
I didn't find the Ysaye more powerful than Chloe's but certainly it is very clean and it sets out the details extremely clearly (at the end and indeed throughout). Either way, it is a really excellent performance, no question.
17:17 this part so powerful like ‘bam!’I cannot explain lol and she got a solid sound I also love her accents I think Chloe’s playing is more connected but also a big sound I can just say they got their own personality Edit: not very pro at violin
@@Arcenmh7718 It is difficult to compare them because the sound engineering is so different. Here, with a relatively ordinary mike, we have a really excellent performance that so to speak, we can appreciate from a distance. In contrast, in Chloe's case imaginative sound engineering immerses us in a multi-layered and multi-textured wall of sound; we are permitted no distance and the overall effect is overwhelming.
@@jackburgess8579 and @Charmen Tsoi First thing: wow, yes, what a performance from Hannah! But even before I started to read the comments, I went straight to Chloe's recent version to compare them back to back. I found Chloe's more powerful, more dynamic, more emotional. Words don't do justice to what I'm trying to say, but Chloe's rendition makes me melt on my chair every time I hear it, in a manner that Hannah's interpretation, however excellent, didn't. Having said this, I'm sure that part of this is the rounder sound, more immediate, more immediate and present. And on that, yes, I'm sure the engineering (the mikes and the rooms) have something to do. But I think the bow work too. Also, I don't know what instrument Hannah plays but I think Chloe now plays a loaner Guarneri; can't hurt... ;-) Either way, bravi to both! Oh, yes, and that Dvořák! Wow there too! :-)
@@LouFerl I think that one of the reasons that Chloe's performance is so compelling is the relative steadiness of her tempo. Many others employ rubato very extensively, and this interrupts the momentum of the piece and induces a certain fragmentation. The effect is to some extent manifest even in Hannah's performance, although her use of rubato is still restrained compared to the extreme. While many seem to treat the piece as some kind of free for all, Ysaye's score gives no such licence. His markings are quite extensive and careful. He even gives a metronome specification of 126 (quaver) for the third section! But with the exception of the "recitative" introduction, which is in free rhythm, changes of tempo are marked only sparingly and rubato is marked in only one bar.
I wouldn’t compare the two interpretations. They are both very different. Hers is very Connected and almost romantic while Hilary’s is powerful and intense.
At the end of the day, all the young talents who compete in Menuhin are extremely skilled and in the top .01% of people to pick up a violin. I am one of the top violinists at my university and someone who is destined to be a professional and yet I could not hope to perform that ysaye and bring the same levels of three dimensionality and phrasing throughout the double stops. We see so many mind boggling performances by children now because of the internet but in reality this right here is an incredible feat that might go under-appreciated because we’ve become numb to great playing
That Dvorak was flawless and beautiful as Perlman's play
Definitely deserved first place imo. So bloody good
Hannah is from Hong Kong💖Bravo Hannah

Hannah plays on a G.B. Guadagnini Torino 1778 ex Blavet kindly on loan by Alfredo Primavera.
-according to Hannah tam biography
I could play that good if I had that violin lol
@@juliejules7780 nah thats not true
IMHO, I think Hannah even done a better job than Chloe in Ysaye's Sonata No.3. More powerful and clearer in the last part.

The ysayë sounds like the audition from Vengerov
Chloe is Chinese from Singapore. Tam is from Hong Kong. They are both great.
I've never heard a more powerful Dvorak! Even better that Hilary's :O
So true

They are both great with different playing styles

She was 15 in this? 😭 What was I doing at 15?
when the sonata in d starts
What’s so special about her playing lol I think there are a lot more players way more expressive, in other words, better than her
