Dear Sir, I'm the guy without a boat and I loved your latest video about the TV. Sometimes I feel like I don't belong here with all your messages of boaters with large boats, but you've always been nice to me, and I want to Thank you very much for writing back. The little people. Gil in Massachusetts
First off, my grandfather was 'sir'. Please call me Paul. Sir sounds too formal ;-) And I'm happy to hear your comments, boat owner or not. My initial and ongoing focus for this channel was and is to inspire others to enjoy time on the water and travel - even if it's only done vicariously. I'll look forward to your future comments. Enjoy!
MUCHO better location! I have the exact same unit and just in case you haven't thought of it, using my home Wi-Fi, I actually download several movies from Netflix on my phone, then screen share them to the unit. Works great and when im finished watching them, obviously I just delete them. CHEERS!!
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Ohhhh, thats too bad! You are correct....We are a Samsung family with Samsung everywhere. Maybe you should come over to the darkside tool 🤣
Looks good. Amazing how much technology changes over the lifespan of a boat. Tube TVs, LORAN C, even some dashboard speedometers are GPS instead of using a pitot. One thing I did do was go with a regular TV and a Roku Stick because many of these so called Smart TVs have proprietary OS and the companies will stop upgrading the system (ahem LG) and you end up having to buy a streaming device anyway. I also like TVs with a built in tuner because a lot of sports are still OTA, and when the big boys shut down Locast, the rabbit ears went back up, especially for NFL.
Ahh, LORAN, another but of technology that I'll never miss 😂 On our previous boat, we used a Roku Stick which worked fine, but have discovered that the built-in capabilities of this monitor are a lot quicker (connection & streaming). As for OTA TV, it has no appeal to me. Absolutely not a fan of sports, so I don't have to watch anything in real time.
Nice job on that one Paul! You always do great work. I actually installed one upstairs in the cockpit on the port side radar arch on AMFM. It was removeable to take down to store when not in use. It was handy in the evening to sit upstairs, have a drink and watch a movie. I wish I had installed one in the location you did. Live and learn!
Great spot for the monitor! We "cut the cord" 3 years ago and do almost the same thing. Though I have unlimited data, T-Mobile's strength where we are does not give us enough bandwidth to stream without problems, so we are stuck using the marina's poor Wifi, though I have a Wifi extender that helps a little. I bet Eternity's Shore would look good up there as well. 😉Cheers!
We're fortunate to have fairly robust cell signals wherever we go in our boat travels, so that's a good thing. As I mentioned in the video, we never use public WiFi, as it's open to potentially nefarious activity from many sources. If you are forced to use it, I'd suggest looking into a VPN service to help protect your connection. Keep a close eye on my upcoming Sunday release. You just might see Eternity's Shore up there sooner than expected 😉
We already have a second, smaller uniy like this one in the forward Master Stateroom - plus I deleted the small one I showed in this video, as it was redundant. Besides, if I start using the aft cabin as living space, where are all my Corona cases gonna go? 😂
Pretty Slick install. How are you powering this TV when away from shore power. I have not noticed you ever mentioning an inverter on this boat yet. BTW I just did a major increase on the data for our phone Plan. 👍
We don't currently have an inverter on the boat, as watching TV while away from shorepower isn't critical for us. At some point I'll most likely put one in, but more for other accessories.
Hi Paul Nice set up doing the same thing also with my phone still waiting for unlimited cell plan!!!! Would be perfect T-mobile has Nice unlimited hot spot in the US but here in Canada have nothing !!! I am looking a starlink RV you can have service exemple Mai to Oct and stop the plan rest of the year!!! Would like a cell service in Canada with unlimited plan instead THANKS for the garmin stricker info and the transducer and all the set up câbles works great Filled my Nice hole of my old raytheon 😂😂 All the other garmin stuff is install Greg will finish the rest Cheers
You can try Rogers for unlimited data on their cell plans, but be aware that after you hit the threshold of your package, the speed gets throttled back and isn't really practical for streaming video... Glad you're getting the new Garmin toys installed! I'm loving our plotter and finder👍👍👍👍
We've never run the TV when underway, so that's not an issue. If stopped for a night or two at a lock without shorepower, TV isn't critical and we'll normally just take in the relaxation or listen to music via Spotify. At some point, I might hook up an inverter for that, but not critical to watch TV every day.
No. After 25 years of boating and cruising each summer, we're more than able to produce/store/use all the power we need. Having to install panels (rigid or flexible style) is not appealing or beneficial for our needs.
I’m guessing you are running of an inverter as 12v tvs are either expensive or in the case of the cheap ones kind of rubbish. I read the current draw is about the same somewhere anywhere like for like. For internet I have a netgear orbi, pretty cheap hotspot that leaves your phone to you, if you can stretch to another SIM card it’s a nice solution, runs off 12v so was easy to setup
No inverter on the boat yet, but I might hook one up at some point in the future. If we're away from shorepower, watching TV isn't critical, so the A/C powered unit is fine for us. As for our interwebs connection, that's as simple as tapping Hotspot on my phone and the tv connects. No extra hardware or sim card required. Plus, my phone is free to use as normal 👍
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Great videos. I am right now in the same project however I will likely hook up the TV permanently to the battery with the help of a cheap buck converter. This should be very well possible with your TV as well - a video explaining it with a similar samsung tv is the following - ruclips.net/video/1AFbVR4eSXs/видео.html
@@NewbieBoatingSingapore Thanks for the tip, but again, having access to our TV at all times is not a priority and we are more than happy to live without it when we are away from shorepower. If there's anything so important for me to watch, I can view it on my phone or the iPad. This TV - and the ones at home - are no more than monitors, as we haven't had 'regular' TV for over a decade and I'd rather never turn the thing on over having to watch cable TV ;-) We only have the units for streaming content (RUclips, Netflix, etc.), all of which I can watch on my phone if necessary. . .
Hey Paul and Anchor Girl!! I was wondering if there was any way to reach out. I have been trying to send you an email but it seems there is somee issue with the email in your info area. It keeps failing when being sent. Is there any other way to DM? Im currently doing an intership and I need some help with sailing especially sailing in Canada. Wishing you sunny skies and smooth sailing!
Hi Ren. Any emails that might find me are automatically deleted unless business related. Any questions you might have can be asked here, but I do not have any insights on sailing whatsoever. Been boating exclusively by power for 50 + years, but have no experience with sailing...
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Thank you Paul for replying :), I understand. It's that I am interning for a marine navigation app and they recently released some charts of the Georgian Bay Area and Trent-Severn Waterway. I was looking for someone with experience and knowledge of the area to help test out the charts we have and to give feedback. I was wondering if you would be interested :)

I do the exact same streaming my stuff without cable. At our marina we share actually cable internet with another boat. Works great!
Nice 👍
Nice video, I have a 22 foot Searay 215 Weekender with a small cabin, and I would love to install a smaller version of what you did.
Great! I also installed a 24" version of this smart monitor in our master berth. Hoping to some day make a video of that install 😉

What a great installation! I have an area like that in my 340 that I have considered using to mount a tv set. Your installation looks awesome.
We had the same set-up on our 330 Dancer, so it should be pretty much the same on your 340 👍

Hey Paul.. Did you think of a 12v TV? Don't need to run the generator when underway.. or if tied up temporarily without power.
