What I love the most about The Terminator is the picture. You see the flashback of Kyle with the picture when the Terminator in the future raids the hideout and the picture gets burned up. Later, Kyle tells Sarah that John gave him a picture of her once and that he always wondered what she was thinking in the picture. And then at the end, the little boy takes the picture of Sarah while she was in the jeep making the recording. That would be the picture that John gave Kyle in the future. And... She was thinking of Kyle! That's some incredible storytelling right there!
"Listen! And understand. That Terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely will not stop. Ever! Until you are dead." The most chilling dialogue of the entire series!
I actually like the first one the best. Loved the horror vibe, the spookiness, and Arnold as the villain. T2 was great, but had a completely different tone to it.
Both movies are a 10/10 but the original is my favourite, Micheal Biehn brings a sense of urgency and desperation to the story with trying to stop the terminator and the horror feel is just perfect for it.
Both are classics but as a horror fan, 1 takes the cake. I remember watching it as a kid and having nightmares of a terminator coming after me. Had more of an affect to me that it is my all time favorite.
Terminator 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time, a movie so pop culture 101 yet still so amazing when you sit down and watch easily one of the best movies of all time
Oh yeah, t2 better than the first one even the first was different to 200 Robert Patrick is still really good as he 1000 or is he still loves to do shows in the comic circuit and he loves to throw any fact any movie about that reference to that movie because at the time him and his wife have lost her house. They have both lost their job at that time so 22 was his first fray back in the movies. He has small Parton die hard too, but then he lost his house in a flood or something so that was his first major role was that film 🎥
I actually was one of the very few lucky people that got to watch all of the Terminator films blind. The moment it’s revealed that Arnold was going to be the protagonist of the sequel, my jaw dropped. Loved if
We have had our back and fourths Cody, we haven’t seen eye to eye. We have both been very aggressive when it comes to our beliefs and how passionate we are and I just gotta tell you… you’re right about T1 being a slasher. DAMMIT! It has taken me years to accept this and my life has been changed.
Both are great. T2 is my winner though. One of the great effects not mentioned was when Arnold cuts open his arm to reveal the robotic insides in order to prove he’s a machine.
The sequel is one of the quintessential 90s blockbusters! And I absolutely adore it. But as I’ve got older (40 now) I’ve began to enjoy the 1984 original more. Both 10/10 movies tho. So good ; )
They are both great but to me t2 wasn’t necessary t1 was wrapped up in a pretty bow but it’s just so good I like how the explosion were bigger t1000 was cool but I like that it still kept the sci-fi horror of the first mixing it with action
Oh, I like this new "Movie Brawl" type of videos! As I stated in previous videos, I can listen to you talk about movies for hours, so this is just perfect! More please!
T1 still my favorite. I'm this way with The Godfather franchise & Alien franchise. The first installment is my fave. T1 has one of id not the most powerful lines that melts me everytime "i came across time for you Sara i love you i always have"
When I was a kid I would wear the T2 VHS out. I watched it so many times, even had all the toys and action figures. T2 really was a watershed moment for me as it influenced my love for movies and will always remain a big part of my childhood. But as I got older, I’d have to say The Terminator gets more replay value for me - the pacing is top notch, the storytelling is superb, and Arnold as the T-800 is absolutely fucking terrifying. Most importantly, it’s a beautiful and tragic love story at its core: “I came across time for you, Sarah.” 😢
I can't tell you how many times I have seen both of these BAD-ASS flicks, and I also can't tell you how many times I have cried at the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Easily one of my favorite movies as far as action sci-fi groundbreaking movie! ABSOLUTELY fantastic.
I really love the idea of putting two movies against each other and coming up with which one is better/you prefer. To provide some personal input, since this is the first episode, Ryan O'Toole used to so this type of concept where he and I believe 4 guests would gather together for a livestream where they would do a bracket of 100 movies for a specific decade with one movie eventually coming out on top. I feel both yours and his way of doing it provide for a slight shortcoming: while your way of doing it in this first episode makes for a very in-depth talk about the 2 movies, it limits the amount of movies you'll be able to discuss in this format, since it's obviously impossible for you to do a 1 hour+ talk super often. Ryan's concept expanded the number of movies, but limited the input on each individual movie battle a lot due to time constraints. I personally feel like a sort of middleground would be best, where you could have like gour or six 1v1s per video with movies from a particular category with one eventual winner and then after a few episodes do like a greatest hits with all the winners. Just something I would personally like to see, coupled with other people's insight, I believe you could really perfect this concept into a regular series on your channel
Two of my absolute favorite movies of all time. I would have to give it to T2 though. In my opinion, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the greatest action movie ever made. It’s absolutely perfect. For a movie that has some of the most incredible action ever put to screen, it always grounds what it’s trying to do in emotion. That’s so much of what makes T2 perfect. It has themes of what makes us human, sacrifice, massive action, a boy and his dog story, a phenomenal villain, and one of the greatest movie one-liners of all time in “Hasta la vista baby”. The Terminator is one of my Top 25 Favorite Movies of All Time, but Terminator 2 is my second favorite movie ever. I adore both of these movies.
This was a ton of fun to have on while cooking dinner. With the mentioning of film’s having a strong father/son theme, I’m going to advocate for a VERY unknown hidden gem: Frankenstein & Me starring Burt Reynolds and a young Ryan Gosling. It’s a 90s coming-of-age love letter to all of the beloved monster classics from yester-year with a genuine message about following your dreams. It’s very dated and silly and meant for a younger audience but has a genuine soul to it and one that will surprise you with its more serious themes and moments. I grew up on it, and it still wrecks me to this day. It’s a sweet little film.
Cody, You will love T2 on the big screen. I wasn’t able to see the first terminator on the big screen. I was too young but T2 is a phenomenal theater experience.
Excellent point about Arnold’s performance in T1! He had so much stacked against him with a lack of dialogue and acting experience, so it could have easily failed miserly…..just look at pretty much any ripoff of either of the first two Terminator films where the only requirement the production believed it needed was “big muscular dude”.
While I fully appreciate and understand why people have T2 over T1, T1 is my favorite. I just prefer the overall horror tone over the action tone, but both are amazing in their own ways. I also enjoy Salvation for what it is.
Love both of these films so deeply. Saw T1 as soon as it was released on VHS. Saw T2 in the theaters opening night my senior year. I was blown away. The entire audience was. Long applause at the end. For the longest time I considered T2 above 1. But as time has passed, I’ve decided on 1 as my fav of the 2. I just LOVED the darkness of it. It was truly terrifying. Hopefully we can get a darker new film and not just a spectacle. It’s going to be a challenge because no sequel has come close since Cameron stopped making them. Please JC make another Terminator! Wishful thinking, I know lol.
Agree 100% about the effects in T2. I was either 8 or just 9 years old when T2 came out and I was completely blown away by it in the theater. It all still holds up to this and, honestly, for my money….after T2, films were never the same. Any movie that had any sort of CGI in it always felt like it did so because of the groundbreaking work done in T2.
This is a great idea for a video series. Just the type of films you might pit against each other shows this is a concept with legs. I was lucky enough to see both of these films in the theater as a young adult. Both movies are superb, but I think Cameron upped his game for T2. I remember watching the trailer for T2 with Arnold saying, "I swear I will not kill anyone." I laughed, saying "Yeah, right!' Little did I know they would actually pull that off.
I saw "The Terminator" at an advanced screening in NY. When they gave us the tickets, they didn't tell us the title or who was in it. They said it was a new sc-fi movie. Watching it this way, my mind was completely f*cking blown! I saw "Back To The Future" the same way! I imagine see this for the first time and not knowing what you were walking in to!
When I saw the thumbnail for this video, I didn’t want to click on it at first, because I have so much respect for both of these movies that I couldn’t stand on the thought of either one of them losing.
This is just in time for me...I was planning on rewatching both films this month...absolutely love both of them...I love each film for different reasons and always consider them both masterpieces.
Nice topic! They are both masterpieces. And at different times in my life, I'd have different answers for which one reigns supreme. The original is so visceral. When Arnold gets off the floor in Tech Noir after taking multiple shotgun blasts.... ahhhh, so good. The music. Man. Can't decide.
Story: T1 Characters: T2 Effects: T2 Villain: T1 Legacy: T2 Objectively I think most people will say T2 is the superior film and they are probably right. Gun to my head. I prefer T1!
Arnold Schwarzenegger was king in my house growing up. Anytime there was a new Arnold movie coming it was a family event that we either saw it in theaters or rented as soon as it came out and would inevitably purchase them. I can't express how much these 2 films have meant to my life and movie fandom. I have seen both an insurmountable amount of times. I would put T2 over Terminator just slightly. My deciding factor is Arnold being a good guy in T2.
T1 slams just off dialogue alone. A lot of T2's story is lifted from T1. Kyle Reese's committed love is as layered as Myles Dyson's conflict over giving up what he loves, and T1 Sarah learning to stand up for herself matches her regaining her humanity in T2 but T1 does just as much with significantly less and is more immersive than T2
@@tajcee It is but at the same time T2 is really just copying the same surface level story beats as T1. Starts with time travelers searching, both converge on target in a public space (down to slow motion for dramatic effect), they escape, end up at a secured location (police station and hospital), exile on the road, and come back to fulfill a decided purpose. A T1 deleted scene even reveals Kyle and Sarah planned to destroy Cyberdyne, which is the building they were chased into, but it was removed just so the sequel could have a plot. T2 feels like it's trying to be a replacement more than a follow-up, making its story feel less legitimate
I'll make the case for T1. Although I agree both are fantastic. 1) Bratty John Connor... lines like "Major bummer, huh?" just don't work now. If they ever did. (They probably didn't.) 2) Stop humanizing the Terminators! And I'm not talking about the T800 (because that's pretty much the entire point of the movie, d'uh.) I'm talking about the T-1000! Its last act is to stand on the edge of the pit waggling its finger at Sarah Connor like a disgruntled schoolmarm. I mean, srsly? That's how you're having your villain go out? There are a few moments like this throughout the movie and it takes the edge off what is a nightmarish antagonist. 3) Don't have a suburban vet who can fly a plane, a teenage runaway who can work a particle accelerator, and give up your movie's prequels' themes of 1) street crime or 2) untrustworthy authorities so that you can include expanding robot bosoms. (Wait... am I thinking of the right movie there? Never mind.) * But seriously, both are great. I love how the first movie gives a perspective of inner-city violence spilling out into the surrounding areas, with a Terminator that dresses like a street criminal; whereas the second one completely shifts the focus onto the authorities, with a Terminator-in-police-costume stalking shopping malls, corporate offices, and immaculate asylums staffed by creeps.
Well, I totally disagree with some of the stuff you wrote here. The "Major bummer, huh?" line and many other lines from little Eddie Furlong as John Connor still work even to this very day; those lines are actually great. And I liked when the T-1000 finally wiggled its finger at Sarah Connor. I'm glad that it did that. I never had a problem with it.
This is awesome! I TOTALLY agree that terminator is a horror film, and I think it’s a slasher too tbh., I one hundred percent agree with you. Billy and Stu used a gun in scream as well, so there’s that lol. This is a great idea and I can’t wait to see what else you have coming up!
Also excellent point about T2’s legacy of “bigger special effects = a better movie to outdo T2”. I definitely see that fault in the majority of Hollywood blockbusters and genre films since T2.
It would be GREAT to see a Alien vs Aliens Movie Brawl video!!! Genuinely interested in others' thoughts about those since they are both amazing and different tones like T1 and T2.
Terminator 2 is still basically, a remake of the first film, so in terms of originality, you gotta give it to the first film. However, I still prefer Judgment Day over the first film, because I personally, think it's done, better. And, the music...Brad Fidel's Terminator 2 theme and ST is just, amazing.
When I was a kid in I saw the trailer in the theater and at the end of the trailer they show the scene where Arnold swears to not kill anybody. That was the only thing that in the trailer that indicated Arnold was not the bad guy.
Happy Friday Cody love to see more movie 🎥 nerd 🤓 discussions like this love to see either Jason or Freddy part one and part two videos like this or even alien and aliens, those kind of things love to see more like these on your channel
I knowt2 is an awesome film, no doubt, great action flick, possibly the best. But because I saw Terminator before T2 existed, it holds a bigger place in my heart, and is my more favourite film of the series, especially given its Slasher roots.
I love T2. It’s one of my all time favorite movies. One thing I had to look up after years of watching this movie, when the T-1000 looking up John Connors info in the police car at the very beginning it shows that John is supposed to be 10 years old. WHAT?! I always thought he was supposed to be a teenager. There’s no way he was 10 years old. 😂
T1 is infact a Horror Romance to me when i finally saw it i thought it was terrifying but Kyle and Sarah's love was epic. I also still can't get over sending your Dad back to save your existence. T2 was definitely something I watched a lot and was apart of my life its really well done from different angles that the guys covered here today. Now as an older person i appreciate T1 more and would love a new Terminator that is SicFi Horror also because they've beating the sci-fi action version to death. Lastly i name everything AI i have Skynet 😂 i don't trust it.
You guys mentioned in the effects section the horror element of the first one. I think it would be cool for another Terminator film to be set in the future where there’s a small platoon of soldiers facing off against the machines but they come across the ones that look like us for the first time. I think that would be a cool way to reintroduce people to the terrifying Terminators instead of focusing on the time travel element. That’s just me though.
T1 is a horror movie with elements of action. T2 is an action movie with elements of horror. I think of them both as very different films. I was introduced to the 2nd film way before the 1st one simply due to availability. My parents were fine with T2 because they saw it as a straight action. The hard R rating was a barrier at times, but this was a common VHS in my VCR. We would often get the film from the library over and over because it always would enthrall me. Especially the T1000, who is in my top 3 favorite movie villains. It could be #1. The original film never had the same effect on me. I am T2 all the way.
T1 and T2 are equally good and I don't even see them as two different movies, but more like part 1 and part 2 of the same movie. The Terminator movies after T2 I pretend they don't exist
I still can’t bring myself to call the original a slasher. I get it but can’t. But overtime I’ve come to accept that that’s what some people think of it. It also shows me that no matter what side people land on, they love the movie as much as I do and that’s awesome. This video was excellent. Both movies are excellent and each for different reasons.
It’s not a slasher all. Something having slasher elements or comedic elements doesn’t make it a slasher or comedy. Y’all always insert hypotheticals to try and justify the argument and it doesn’t work.
@@zachsmith1634 That’s fine, not saying you can’t. Something feeling like a slasher and actually being one are totally different. James Cameron would never call it a slasher movie.
I acknowledge that "T2" is a bigger and better crafted film, but there is just something about "The Terminator" that I like better. I like the story better and the low budget cleverness.
And... The helicopter bridge stunt is still jaw dropping. The story behind it is awesome
"Listen! And understand. That Terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely will not stop. Ever! Until you are dead." The most chilling dialogue of the entire series!
But what if it felt remorse and wanted to settle down and raise a family?
@@tigerwarsaw99 it wouldnt. Dark Fate is easily the worst film in the franchise and takes a steaming hot shit on everything that came before...
@theofficialdtb8859 I'd put it in front of Geneysis. But a low bar that one.

Terminator 2
The Terminator
Terminator 3

Yes I agree.

Random fact: the Terminator in the dream sequence was Franco Columbu, Arnold's bodybuilding friend

I love to see a RoboCop versus RoboCop two movie battle Cody I think a lot of fans on this channel would To !!
Hell yeah! Gonna listen to this on my way home from work!
T1 and t2 may be the only one two punch that can rival aliens 1 and 2 in the sci fi /horror genre. Thanks for the content fellas
A lot of what happens in T2, narratively and thematically, is either an expansion or an inversion of The Terminator, just on a grander scale
(They probably didn't.)
2) Stop humanizing the Terminators!
Never mind.)
*
But seriously, both are great.
HELL YES!!! Intro title was fucking kick ass Cody🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Lets fact check for a second. The Terminator came out after Conan the Barbarian, Conan the destroyer and pumping iron so Arnold was not a nobody
The teaser trailer for T2 did reveal the twist. It said summit like this time he's back for good
Yeah I remember seeing one that gave it away.
To me the OG is better! Great concept and great guest
This was great, Cody! Love the concept and think you’ve got something with tons of potential (and future brawls) 🤘🏽🍻
Can't wait to see future episodes. Awesome idea. I know Alien vs. Aliens gotta be a future episode.
Dude that intro is Awsome
Two of my favorites movies of all time. Both are very different but very simliar to me at the same time.
When I was a kid in I saw the trailer in the theater and at the end of the trailer they show the scene where Arnold swears to not kill anybody. That was the only thing that in the trailer that indicated Arnold was not the bad guy.
Love the idea! Can’t wait to see what this could bring for the future!
I had the T800 character twist in reverse. Saw T2 growing up and didn’t see T1 until college. So I was shocked to see Arnold as the villain.
My favourite movie reviewer on RUclips bar none, keep being you Cody, awesome debut episode!
This is easily my favorite episode of movie brawls.
That crane chase in T3 was pretty awesome though!
Great new series and a perfect guest. Keep these coming!!!
😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤! I saw this and CLICKED IMMEDIATELY! Yeah! I am EXCITED, thanks in advance, you’re AWESOME, CODY!
I actually like The Terminator better. It just fits the 80's so well...the music, fucking everything. Gritty, low key, I love it.
Really enjoyed this! T2 is the superior film, however that doesn't take away from how great the OG is
Close call but i gotta go t2, its such fun ride. Love tge show idea, looking forward to future eps
I am T2 all the way.
what if you love them both too much to decide?
Die Hard vs. Lethal Weapon. Or, Jurassic Park vs. Jaws
9:03 It would have been awkward if John said "Kyle I'm sending you back to conceive me."
No argument here on T1 being a slasher because I’ve always said the same thing growing up. Glad someone finally agrees with me 🤣
It’s not a slasher all. Something having slasher elements or comedic elements doesn’t make it a slasher or comedy. Y’all always insert hypotheticals to try and justify the argument and it doesn’t work.
@@LukeTyson-sn9wm you don’t have to consider it one if you don’t want too. I do consider it one. 🤷🏻♂️
@@zachsmith1634 That’s fine, not saying you can’t. Something feeling like a slasher and actually being one are totally different. James Cameron would never call it a slasher movie.
Love this Movie Brawl concept, Cody.
I acknowledge that "T2" is a bigger and better crafted film, but there is just something about "The Terminator" that I like better. I like the story better and the low budget cleverness.
I honestly thought I was one of the few who thought of Terminator as a horror film! I am vindicated. 😄
Great concept 🔥 And nice spin on the classic WWF logo 🤩
Brilliant keep making these my man. 💪☺️
