Oh wow, that's the ukulele I own. I love my Snail and I'm pleased you like it too. I personally like the headstock, as you say, it's subjective. I'm saving for a Tenor with a 38mm nut width as many say the extra space makes it more comfortable to play.
Lovely, all around and excellent tone and response. Although I have more tenors, and I spend more time practicing with the soprano (I've mentioned my fixation on "real uke players play soprano" before), concert is and has always been my ideal size for comfort, playability, and sound. I'm glad you're veering towards them, and I hope we can expect many more concert reviews in the future, not to imply you've under-reviewed this size, of course.
That's a very nice looking uke! I think they really made the most of the wood, it practically glows! And it sounded lovely as well. Concert is a great size but something I realized as a beginner shopping around - there's a lot of cheaply made junkers in concert size. Good to know which ones are worth getting!
Glad you enjoyed it! I've been around ukes for about 15 years - but only recently started warming to concerts - it's a nice scale that I am starting to appreciate more
I’m very envious of your huge selection of quality ukuleles up there, stocks drying up down here in NewZealand. I’ve already been waiting 4 months for my Martin T1k and still anther couple of months to wait.. just a few el-cheapo kids Uke’s left in most stores now.
This is a nice looking ukulele. I still don’t like the open headstock but it really looks ok. The good part is that it pushes the tuners back like friction tuners in looks anyway. The price seems good on this as well. The strings they use sound very smooth and melodic. It sounds great to me in fact it is just as nice picked as strummed. Great review on a great instrument. Love this one….thanks …DOC
Thanks Baz. Really like the sound of the mahogany. I agree with you on using more featured ebony, Pono do this and it looks quite good on a concert I have. Am OK with the slot head, but know what you mean. Have a peaceful week.
I was wondering, out of all the musical instrument reviews, which ones stood out as the best/worst values of all time? Might make an interesting video to take a trip down memory lane.
Would be too difficult to do - I don't have 99% of the instruments reviewed any longer to feature, but also it's totally subjective. Thinks like the aNueNue Color and Uma and Kai instruments stand out on good value. Low value are those with lowest scores. The real point here though - all reviews are snapshots in time at the date of review, so, for example, what I REALLY liked in 2018 may not beat what I REALLY liked in 2022.
My Mainland concert is a slothead, so I am okay with that. Picky question: is the soundhole label “tented” over the center back brace? My Romero Replica Satin is like that and I keep thinking of wetting it with naphtha and taking it off; looks tacky.
If you're getting into concerts, why not review the Flight Spirit. That really suprised me when I tried it. I couldn't find it on your site… And I find it different to the Nighthawk in sound.
Snail was one of the ukuleles I went to once I couldn’t play a few songs, for the money what’s not to like offerings gloss finish’s ebony fret board and great sound, unfortunately for me and must be the way I fret a chord I kept pulling the A string of the fret, so the A string just rolled of the edge of the fret 😕 but that uke looks like all the snail sounds good well built and when others charge a lot extra for gloss finish and ebony fret board snail give you it for a lot less
Sorry - been in this review game for over a decade but always had the same policy of never giving individual recommendations - far too subjective for me to make the choice. Suggest you look at full review list in link below video and work through the highest scores!
@@GotAUkulele l have been but it’s so hard with all the choices with what l already have l my try the baby tenor by Uma it not a crazy price or go for a Kala baritone but that may be further down the road the Ilander looks nice and sounds lovely 😊 but thank you for all your reviews they help navigate the minefield,l really was asking more about when your a beginner it’s like a kid in a sweet shop ? 😜
It's just hard for me as final decisions are so personal - I may not like the looks or sound you like - i'd hate to make a recommendation that people hate. My reviews are a general guide on quality and a pattern often forms with some brands. If they are 8/10 or above they are recommended one way or the other, 9/10 above are essential.
Happy they’ve taken the text off and only have the logo. I love the slotted headstock and the nut width too. Thanks Baz!
Me too!

The tone is very rich. Was it a pleasure to play. Pleasure to hear it played thanks Barry
Thanks Richard!

Great review! Looks good, sounds good, and appears to be well made.
It is!
Had my Snail concert about 5 years, still sounds good. This one looks and sounds as good 👍
With the bag obviously!
Very reliable brand in my experience
Oh dear... I think my collection is about to expand! BTW, I think the headstock wouldn't overpower if it was a lighter colo(u)r on the front.
Think you are right

Yep - global supply chains still seem to be broken
Brilliant looks and sound. Good price, too! I like this very much. Thanks, Baz!
My pleasure!

Always preferred alto ukes. That looks like a very good one.
I was off them for a long while - took ten years but really appreciating them now. Love that name for them too - need to use it more!
Danke!
Thank you!

It is a bit - yes.

I can ask them - but Flight are pretty well represented on the site so need to give some others more air-time too!

Yep - very good value
I am a beginner and have two ukuleles a Cordoba 15 cm and a Kahana PTN 101178 thinking of buying a tenor what would you recommend? Please !
