We're all aware that propaganda is all around us- whether to change your mind on politics or products; we encounter propaganda every day. Edward Bernays is a man nicknamed "The Father of Public Relations" due to his influence on the way that propaganda (whose name he later rebranded to 'public relations') works on the minds of "the mindless herds" as Bernays referred to the public.

In grad school, I read a book named Land of Desire, by William Leach. It's about the "development of consumer capitalism in the United States from 1890 to 1932." I found it a fascinating book, and I was a knuckle-dragging military historian at the time.

Love the presentation style! It is amazing how things have changed in the last 60 years. I remember my cousin's wife who was pregnant in the mid 1960's. Her doctor told her to not quit smoking, especialy for a while after she gave birth, to keep her from gaining too much weight. Strange to think about now, but it was actually pretty factual. She eventually quit smoking and got big and I've seen it with other women over the years also. Trying to fill that inner void with something. I remember how cool I felt playing pool with a cigarette burning and a drink setting on the table. And now COPD raises it's ugly head...So, yeah...
