I’m guessing this was filmed on 8mm cine film, my late Father had some footage of steam trains around Mansfield, Nottinghamshire which was unfortunately lost during several moves along with the Kodak wind up camera and projector. So nice to see this 😀
Every year when I was a toddler we went to Staithes (N. Yorks) - maybe 4/5 day trips every year. The engines were always big black tank engines (A8, A5?) - and every year, from around 1955/56, the engines got progressively dirtier and dirtier. This was very noticeable: even as a small child the lowering of standards was very obvious to me.
For those of us from that time, priceless memory evoking footage. Thanks for posting.
A nice quality video with some great locations. Many thanks again.

My dad used to drive these trains.
Very good thanks.
Fabulous
Superb.
Looking at how unkempt those locos are, this must be from just before the end of steam. They're filthy!

Yes I agree, judging by the cars too.
What a pity those steam locos are so neglected.
I think some of the engine crew lost heart knowing that jobs would probably be going and diesels were not suited to many of them.
Interesting.
People go on about the black 5s and rightly so but sir williams 8F weren't a bad loco, probably only bettered by a 9F
