    This guy was the fastest driver at the time bar none. Balls in abundance. If only mclaren had od given him a car he could of been a treble world champion. Sadly missed.

    0:13 the speed he carries over that kerb! WOW!
    0:33 the way he perfectly judges the kerbs! DOUBLE WOW!
    0:44 the way he applies the throttle before Lesmo 2! Insanity!
    1:00 the way he controls oversteer in the middle of Ascari? The best Monza lap ever

  • @ciaronsmith4995

    This pole and his pole in 2005 (before the 10 place penalty), are the best laps I have ever seen around Monza. Incredible speed carried through the corners, insanely early on the throttle through the 2nd Lesmo and PERFECTLY places the car over the kerbs. That skill of "kerb jumping" is gone from F1 now. They put barriers on the kerbs to prevent drivers from cutting them - boring!

      The 2018 pole position by Kimi was incredible as well. Lovely throttle control through second lesmo and ascari.

    • @ciaronsmith4995
      @ciaronsmith4995 4 года назад +5

      @@ajmalhussain3574 It was good, but this lap was better. He had a lot of understeer in the first sector in 2018.
      Kimi was something else on the Michelin tyre. 0:44 that is not normal. That is scary.

    • @javiergarridobrito5054

      2006 pole was with it was low on fuel, while the others used the same amount of fuel that they used from the start of the race to the first pitstop. That explains the poles that Raikkonen had in a mediocre car like MP4/21 was.

    • @ciaronsmith4995
      @ciaronsmith4995 3 года назад +2

      @@javiergarridobrito5054 Raikkonen had similar fuel in Monza and Hungary to the others and his lap was insanity if you analyze driving lines. He is literally on the edge of the front axle in an extreme way few in F1 history can do. The onboard tells you everything you need to know unless you are a noob.

    Kimi at McLaren was one of the fastest drivers in F1 history. Even Ron Dennis said that Kimi had the most natural speed than anyone he has seen. And this from a man who had Senna, Hakkinen, Prost and Lauda in his team. Kimi was never again the same driver at Ferrari (for whatever reason). Just occasional glimpses of brilliance there.

    I still can't believe that the V8's could lap Monza in the 1:21's like the V10's could. In 2005, Kimi's qualy lap was a 1:20.878, but he was the only one under 1:21.000. The next 7 drivers were in the 1:21's, and in 2006 it was the top 4 drivers in the 1:21's but their times were fast enough to put them in the top 7 on the grid in 2005! Montoya's qualy lap in 2005 was 1:21.054, still only about 4 tenths quicker than Kimi in a V8 with over 200 horsepower less!! Man, I miss those 2006 cars.

    You're right. Kimi was on a two-stopper in 2006. He pitted on laps 15 and 38, and in 2005 he pitted on lap 25......BTW, Montoya pitted on lap 20 in 2005, so Kimi was about 2 tenths quicker than JPM in qualy but Kimi had 5 laps more fuel! Holy shit!!

    It was mainly in the extraordinary grip they had from the tyres in 2006; the apex speeds were ridiculously high, thus what they lacked in straight line speed they more than made up for in cornering speed. Especially the Michelin runners.

    Michelin leaving F1 didn't stop Kimi becoming awesome, but it did stop him becoming unstoppable! Although Kimi is a Ferrari world champion (Current last Ferrari world champion) McLaren Kimi was the best, balls in abundance, flat out, super quick, extremely strong! Even McLaren engineers couldn't figure out how Kimi put the car in certain positions, i.e. Spain 2006 Nurburgring 2006 where he came to the McLaren motorhome and said I drove 60 qualifying laps one after the other. 2006 Monaco, Canada, Monza Bahrain China. 2005 Imola, Spain, Monaco Turkey Italy Japan Spa France Silverstone, Canada Germany Hungary Nurburgring. 2003 Season. Mclaren really messed it up in 2002-2006 seasons with shocking reliability, heat shields, cooling intakes suspension blowups, tyre blowups, rear wing issues twice, engine failures Hydraulic issues. Keep Flying Kimi!

    What I find strange about Monza is that on the official FIA circuit chart, Curva Grande - the 90 degree curve between the first and second chicanes is not a corner!!.
    But apparently according to the SAME circuit chart the kink between Lesmo#2 and Ascari is!!!

    That's largely down to the rev limit, though; compare this video to a 2009 video - in 2009 it sounds like they're short shifting. It really is the V10s that sounded faaaar different, because they were completely different engines.

    they try to create cars that are even more able of overtaking but they forget one thing..in earlier times f1 was even more attractive than it is now and that just because that great looking and sounding cars..when you go to an f1 race nowdays you get lots of overtaking, but the cars lost their majesty
