This was such a huge showcase of Japan's style of volleyball. they've got some monster hitters but so many of these highlights are great defense and recycling the ball if they don't have a great shot, play solid D, keep moving the ball until you've got a good opening to put the ball away. Awesome stuff.

I played Volleyball back when I was in high school and loved it, but lost interest until Haikyuu came out. Everyone complains about anime, but honestly it seems to be the reason people are getting reinterested in some sports and activities. I'd be thanking the Japanese for getting me back into a sport I used to love so much.
The annoying thing is that it means people are mainly just interested in the Japanese players. As an Italian who can watch the best championship in the wirld every week, in which only 3 players are Japanese as far as I know, it feels very reductive and superficial.

I thought volleyball, football, baseball, basketball are all boring asf... but thats because i dont know the rules, and the strategies present with every match... while anime can be over dramatic, and cliche... you cant argue that people are starting to be interested and some even started to play... Another thing, people really only look at the Japan's team when they're doing good... japan's basketball team or football team isn't as popular as the current volleyball team and they all have popular animes...
You can see how Onodera actually hesitated it almost didn't work (he was going for a faint because he thought Ishikawa will go for it but he saw how ishikawa changed his form midway so he went for it). Pretty cool. Thought they've done this already before (forgot the year lol) and I think another team also did it. Just crazy how they can pull it off lol

I shouted a lot of "Ang ganda!!!" everytime Captain Gianelli is setting... Ganda means beautiful. That's what we shout whenever we see beautiful sets. Then "Paluin mo!" Which means, spike the ball hard. His set is so good and beautiful and it deserves a use of strong spike kill. BTW I was shouting "Go captain, Gianelli" too everytime he serves!

Japan's height was not on par with the world stage giants so really big kudos to their coaches that cultivated their digging skils to an insane level

In Japan alone high school volleyball teams tripled after haikyuu came out. It was a great surge of life into a community

Double touches are legal in the case of a blocker touching a blocked shot again, or a player touching a hard driven spiked ball they received again.
