    Hey! Loved watching! Especially storage ideas. I noticed you're using a standard garden hose. You need to get a "potable water hose" to make sure your drinking water doesn't have the taste of the hose in it. Enjoy! Looking forward to watching more of your vids.

    Congratulations on making such a brave move. You're going to have a wonderful time once travel is allowed to resume. I love your caravan, it's fantastic. I love that it has 3 berths for kids, that extra one is so useful and will make a great play area for Jack when he's a bit bigger. You chose wisely in buying the floor model rather than building your own, the extras are so great. Best wishes and stay safe.

    Re chrome cast:
    The Apple TV as you are using it now is a good option, but it may be worth getting a mobile 4G router like the Nighthawk M2 and using that to provide WiFI coverage in your van from the Telstra 3G, 4G, and 4Gx network. These units charge off of USB-C so you can run it off your existing USB chargers and you can also get efternal antennas to connect to the FME antenna ports in the back.
    With a mobile router, your devices can all connected to a WiFi network (like you would at home) and your streaming services should function normally. I would also recommend when joining laptops to this network to make sure you set it as a "Metered Network" so that they avoid downloading updated and use the bandwidth more economoically.
    Lastly, most providers will allow you to order a data sim attached to the data allowance of your family plan. By doing this, you combine both of your phones data and can use it from your mobile router.
    Cheers.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      Thanks for that! We actually ended up getting the nighthawk so we could run the Apple TV and it’s bloody amazing! Haven’t heard about the data sim before, will look into it, thanks for the awesome tips! 😁

    • @Sethjxl
      @Sethjxl 4 года назад +1

      @@BigOzExplorers No worries. As another note with the nighthawk: If you have trouble communicating between devices, look up "Disable ipv6 on nighthawk". These devices have a few known issues with ipv6 and work much better with ipv4.
      All the best.

    Up and at em. Very impressive with the young one. Just a tip. When I got my TV the guy warned me about having it too near cooking fumes. Said it could coat the circuit board and bugger it. Notice you had one of your smellys directly underneath. Otherwise, go hard. Still doing my van up and being a Vic no-one loves us at the minute. I'm a fan.

    The trick to chrome cast is to set it up on a wifi somewhere else. Once setup of you enable wifi sharing on your phone and make sure the SSID is the same name as the SSID on the wifi you set it up on. Chrome cast won't know the difference and will allow you to stream from your phone with out a wireless router.
    Option 2 would be too use an old Android phone as a wireless router or a wireless router with 4g support. Add an additional sim card to your plan and install it in the router and it will work as if you are at home

    • @BigOzExplorers

    Really loving the content thanks for sharing. I have a chrome cast working in my caravan now off grid But you do need two iPhones. One set up on hotspot that your spare iPhone and your chrome cast can connect to and go through the setup procedure on. there is instructions on the Internet and it does work. Just hold the button down on the chrome cast until the light goes white to perform a factory reset and then start a fresh set up procedure of it and your spare iPhone both tethered to the hotspot on another iPhone.

      I haven’t heard that before, I guess it makes sense if someone rear ends you. I’ll ask some questions! I wonder what happens if you need petrol and your in the middle of nowhere though, what’s more important to the cops, weight distribution or fuel placement 🤔 I might ask a local cop!

    It’s possible to convert your Apple TV to run 12v power if your happy enough with the Apple TV it’s not a hugely difficult modification

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      It is possible to make Apple TV run on 12V but we’re not prepared to pull the thing apart and figure it out! Our battery upgrade includes an inverter which we need for our microwave as well so we will probably use the inverter when we’re streaming because it’s simpler than chromecast! Our Wi-Fi is 12V so the Apple TV alone won’t overwork the inverter at least... The battery upgrade is next week so we will let everyone know how that all goes anyway, hopefully we can keep everything working the way we have it now! 🤞🏻

    Guys, I just noticed your using a green garden hose for your water supply. You urgently need to buy a proper 'drinking water' hose to fill your tanks and use for mains water. The garden hoses have carcinogenic plastics in there make-up, and laying out in the sun, full of water, chemicals and toxins leech out into the water, that's why your tank and drinking water tastes yucky plastic. The drinking water hoses have zero taste, and are made with food grade materials. Bunnings sell them, also 'Hose-link' (online) sell them, also Anaconda BCF etc.

      Big Oz Explorers nah not at all I drive a Ranger and think it’s the best towing vehicle I’ve ever had, if I update I’ll maybe look at the Dodge Ram but I’m very happy with the one I’ve got, you guys enjoy your traveling and experience everything you can coz it’s a bloody big country, I do caretaking on large properties mainly in western Queensland I’m currently on 34,000 acres West of longreach and not sure how long for I’ve been here 6 weeks now and the owners have another property and interest so they said settle in for as long as you want, plus I was out here last year for a couple of months, but you guys have a great time and hopefully we will catch up one day cheers Amos 👍🍻🇦🇺

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      Wow what a job! That’s awesome! Have you got your family with you at least, it would get quite lonesome on 34,000 acres...
      We also love the Ranger, it’s been a great car and it’s towing great, we underestimated its capacity but it’s doing better than we thought! I wish we could keep this car but we are so close to the GCM, it’s always going to be unavoidable after the caravan was quite a lot heavier than it was supposed to be on the brochure… what can you do!

    • @amosbanjocaretakers3598
      @amosbanjocaretakers3598 4 года назад

      Big Oz Explorers yes I’m right on my GCM as well I’ve got a Vivid Explorer 18’6” full off road and the similarity and features are exactly the same as your van, hmmm very interesting, but no I’m out here on my own oh well I have my blue healer dog with me and the mrs is home in Hervey Bay working well is until the end of this month she was made redundant she works for News Corp Newspaper so she might come out here for a few weeks after she finishes up at the end of month but then she will go back home coz she has a elderly mother in the bay to keep a eye on. But you guys will have so much fun and memories made and at your ages you will see so much, I wish I would have done what I’m doing a lot earlier but I love the outback and the bush must be in my blood I grew up on 186,000 acre property in NSW and miss the freedom and remoteness that’s why I’m out here living the dream, cheers 👍🍻🇦🇺

    A blunt knife is more dangerous than a sharp knife.
    Ensure you can both operate the van's set up and preparing for the road. Filling water, dumping grey water etc. As well as both towing, reversing, parking, changing a tyre, etc. If anything happens either of you can completely takeover, while the other person is laid up.
    Seriously I would invest about $300 and buy a Personal EPERB (an emergency position location beacon), meaning in a medical emergency you can call for emergency assistance. Anything which your life is endangered. If seriously going off-road, look into getting something like a Codan Outback Radio transmitter/receiver. You may need to get an operator's licence. It means you can also call for assistance of anyone within radio distance, talk to others on the road. What many do is put their call-sign on the back of their vansand even roof, so others following can call you, warn they want to over take etc. Or in an emergency, aircraft can recognise you from the air.
    Also going bush, ensure you are carrying some form of personal protection, wink wink, even a bl**dy big wrench or cattle Taser. Cable zip ties make good restraining ties if needed to keep an unwanted stranger secured.
    We are a relatively a safe country but on occasion unlawful individuals can spoil it for others. Always ensure someone knows your timetable and checking in like clockwork. They could also be a means of getting help for you if something goes wrong. Don't be frighten of talking to the Police in outback towns. If you have a bad stretch of road ahead, they can stay in touch with the next station on your destination, to ensure you arrived safely.
    Road conditions can change at the drop of a hat, you need to be aware at all times, you also have children to consider. Teach your daughter a safe word, for when you want her to go to a safe spot immediately to hide. Think about that one. Sorry, I don't want to make you frighten of hitting the road or the outback but at the same time, you need to be smart to be safe. Like NOT always stopping on the road to assist a car. Always listen to your gut, listen to each other. "She'll be right mate", isn't always safe.
    You can use your mobile or radio to get them help unless it is a life and death situations, then of course you stop but hopefully you will also have your EPERB to use. If one of you leaves your camp to go exploring or even fishing when out of site, then take the EPERB with you along with your two way radio, water and hat.
    Since Covid, we need to be really aware of our personal safety at all times. The harder life gets, the more risks there are from strangers who fall on hard times. Even when getting fuel and you all leave your vehicle, ensure your car keys are in your pocket and your vehicle is locked. Never leave your car unlocked when not in it for driving.
    Sit down and write down some rules for when you are on the road, alone. If need be have little quizzes or mini exercises until you feel comfortable. If you run into trouble, you need to act quickly, not become paralyzed with fear.
    We have spent many years travelling and living around Australia. We know roads can be lonely and dangerous. If you breakdown, never leave your vehicle, never when outback on dirt roads. Good luck from Townsville. You will have some amazing experiences, our country is incredible. Stay safe and have fun.

      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      Thanks for the tips! ☺️ Lucky for us, we’ve got a lot of country background in Australia and are aware of a lot of these things already! Not just city slickers hitting the road 😉

    • @Lyn4817
      @Lyn4817 4 года назад

      @@BigOzExplorers Great to hear after living and working our way around Australia ourselves, we have seen our fair share of people come to grief. After volunteering in regional cities and outback towns in road rescue, we have pulled too many people out of situations they unfortunately found themselves in with little experience. As well as being on too many search and rescues for missing people. With larger RVs and 4x4 vehicles, many owners don't have experience off the highways and many are aware of the pitfalls of their own heath issues deteriorating in remote locations, without the benefit of assistance.
      With such a lovely family, just stay safe and enjoy our vast wonderful country. I was heartened by you impressive tool kit, I hope it includes a snatch and grab or equivalent as well.

    We used an Amazon firestick (like yourselves chromecast got ditched), once tethered to the mobile hotspot it worked perfect and being just a usb to run I just plugged it into the tv usb, already has the usual stream networks built in (netflix, prime vid, youtube and many more) saved the bother of casting to tv. Since upgraded to a JVC Firetv so all built into the tv meaning just 1 remote to worry about. I'm just not sure they're available in Oz.
