    I learned all these from Ms. Marion Fouse, forty years ago. I need a reminder sometimes. Thanks for the free refresher course. (I also need to practice more!)

    I am a pianist and about to take up the harp as well. I'm really hoping to avoid all the most common pitfalls from the start, as I don't want to end up with wrist problems as I did with the piano.

      Good thinking! It’s worth the investment to learn from online courses that emphasise technique, otherwise it’s very hard to teach yourself good harp technique just from reading a book or learning by ear 💕

    Christy-Lyn this is a really good video, of course not just for beginners. I would say its great for all self-learners!
    I just missed one thing, you showed harp too high, but it would be good to show too low and then right position. Maybe you will make another video especially focused to lap harps which are more challenging to put it to right position.
    Anyway thank you! Im happy being part of your community and taking your payed lessons, you teached me so much! Tomáš

    Thank you! I always need these reminders! When I first started learning the Harp, I didn't realize how much it entails!

      Yes it can seem like simply plucking a few strings, but if you learn with good technique it sounds so much better and you can go so much further which is exciting! 😃

    Your technique reminders were what really stood out to me when I tried my first video course with you (Sally Gardens). I had read about correct posture and technique when I first picked up my harp, but it's really difficult to keep everything in mind when nobody is there to remind you! Your reminders made the video feel like a live lesson!
    I love that your teacher told your family to yell "thumbs up" at you randomly, that sounds like fun! 😂

      Haha yes, my teacher was quite a character! She was an old Welsh lady in her 80s, full of spunk 😎😄 Thanks for always being so supportive, Katharina ❤️❤️

      Thanks Stephanie! So lovely to know that you’re watching, and to see your comment. It means a lot! Sometimes I feel like I say these things all the time, but we can always do with another clear reminder 😄💕

    The Hitch Harpers' guide to Harptopia......use your thumbs up. I find myself playing with my wrists resting against the soundbox. I'm sure that's wrong......too cofortable :)

    Wonderful. Succinct and helpful. Just getting my harp this last week, I have been so caught up watching your older videos (somehow I got into those first) that I am just now watching your most recent content where your website and courses are mentioned. Great to know, and will be getting into that soon! Just playing around, tuning, and getting familiar with the instrument this week, I realize that my fingernails, while not long, are still in the way. Cutting and filing them very short right now. Will feel and sound so nice to pluck the strings properly.

      Hi Isa. That’s so awesome that you just got your harp, big celebrations!! I just got a new harp last week too… 😍 Unboxing video coming soon, I’m so excited!! Yes it really helps to cut the fingernails as short as you can, then you can get a nice rich and full sound from your fingers without the nails making that plucky sound. When you feel ready to start learning, I recommend trying the “How to play the harp: start here” RUclips videos from YT (or as a free course on the website), and then try learning After the Rain or Mahogany Moon as a free course (through our free trial). You get to keep the course forever, and it’s a good way to get a solid start with your harp technique 😃 Then if you like learning from our courses you can consider membership after that. Have fun getting to know your harp, it’s such a joyful time! I remember the excitement so clearly now since I’m exploring a brand new harp myself. 😍 Thanks for commenting, nice to meet you!

    Thank you so much for this reminder❣ Yes, as a decade-long self-learner without videos or teacher most of these technique mistakes are the ones I have to train hard to get rid of. A good goal for 2023 😁

    Hi. I plans to buy a harp soon. Should i have my harp pick up installed? What is the purpose for pick up? Thanks.

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Год назад

      Hi there! A pick up is like a microphone that goes inside your harp. So that if you perform, you can just plug your harp in and don’t have to worry about using a microphone. If you plan to perform with your harp in venues where they use microphones, I highly recommend it 😊

    I fall into the wrist hill pitfall 😅

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Год назад +1

      It happens so easily! 😅 That one took me quite a long time to fix, it can go unnoticed unless you’re specifically looking for it. I found it happened especially when I played my 4th finger 🤔 But with persistence it’s very possible to fix! 🙌🏻💕
