I too studied with Alice Chalifoux. Just visited my old harp room with Alice's memorial placard at the Cleveland Institute of Music. I have had a pedal harp sitting in my living room for decades untouched. Going to get back to playing harp. Thank you for sharing. I can't remember how to make many of the effects. Thanks to you, Yolanda Kondonassis, that will no longer be a problem. Can't wait until my book arrives.

Great to see this exposition on techniques for harp. Im so curious about your approach to tuning, and whether you use equal tempered, or key colored, which Bach and so many others used. Im guessing because you have to keep tuning the harp,by ear, that you would have a key colored, asymetrical tuning. Im wondering if this subject is in your book- thanks

If I ever had a harp to experiment with, I'm certain I would have discovered many of these. Thank you, Ms. K. After enjoying yoyr recordings for years, itls nice to attach a voice!! 😎😎😎

    I subscribed!❤!❤!❤
I know a lady who purchased a concert sized harp for a daughter who never liked the instrument 🎻 I ADORE the HARP.
I’m going to buy fresh strings for this abandoned harp, and find a professional to restring correctly.
This mother Aged 78, has a daughter, aged 41 , who chose FIREFIGHTER as a profession. Not a harpist.
I’m hoping to play the abandoned harp ❤🎉

As a composer, aren’t harpists gonna hate you if you write these techniques for them? (Specifically the percussive and prepared effects)

depends on how u write it. honestly it is fun and changes things up a bit.

There's a lot of harpists interested in playing this kind of stuff because there's also a lot of boring work out there for the harp. If you want an example, the Ginastera Harp Concerto has some percussive effects in it.

Some of the prepared effects could be annoying and there’s a little here and there, but most of these are fine to use. It’s mainly important that you use the standard notation and follow what this books talks about so that you understand what writing it will mean for the harpist
