- The death toll in the George building collapse now stands at 32, with 20 people still unaccounted for. The Deputy Minister of International Relations, Alvin Botes, has appealed for financial assistance from the public to help repatriate the bodies of foreign nationals killed in the George building collapse.
Representatives from the high commissions of Zimbabwe and Malawi are also in George to meet with family members of the victims and oversee the repatriation process. According to Botes, repatriation is not covered by consular support services covered by DIRCO. Eighty-one people were on site when the building collapsed last Monday.

Shouldn’t the employers who knowingly break the law take responsibility for thsese people ?
Shouldn't the developers at least be held accountable for the cost of the medical care in George Hospital for those workers that were injured and have survived, as well as the repatriation of the deceased, but, oh wait they can't even be reached, been totally MIA during this recovery process, and have still made no public appearance, nor statement after this disaster, most definitely something fishy going on here, I suppose the investigations will eventually bring all to light...
There is no budget for that. Which is why they opted for cheaper slave labour.
According to the companies act the court could lift the limited liability and hold the directors jointly and severally liable in case of fraud or reckless trading

How can you cry for a job that resulted in the death of so many people, if you working at that site you could be a victim also.
Cheap labour most of these people aren’t even qualified there’s a video of a 19 year old girl mixing cement and that wasn’t even her job she was one of the cleaners. For someone to get people from other places is way way cheaper instead of hiring professionals also they say the owner of the company that was building the place just disappeared few hours after the collapse
It's everywhere there's few south Africans in hard labor jobs ....people prefare grant from the government that doing hard labour jobs
I'll be honest, South Africans dont want those jobs because they are back breaking and low paying. They are always given first priority but they scoff the low pay. But the work must go on
If the company doesnt cover the moving costs of the deceased to their respective countries, do they at least pay them a monthly stipend for a while for the families fo grieve without having a financial burden.???

Where is the construction company? At least they should be helping the bereaved families to take bodies to their countries. This is a very sad situation. Condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
So now we must help with the repatriation for people who came with the crocodile? They trying to outsmart us but they forget that nature is way smarter than them.
How does a whole building colappse on its own weight in this age of technology the contractors must explain, how they manged to built was there an inspection being done during the construction

Beke Cele has not sent a single word of condolence to the families of the 87 people that are murdered each day in South Africa. So the developers are just following his example. They learn from the best.

@@user-js5fe5kt4j What is being said here is tragic but logical. 81 people were on site, of whom 20 are still missing. Of the remaining 61, 61 were pulled from the debris but 32 of the 61 did not survive. Therefore 29 survived, of whom 12 were hospitalised. The numbers do, in fact, add up to the total of 81 people. Such an unspeakable tragedy, and you're joking about "mathing" - really not appropriate at this time.
