  • Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways
In this video it's a special day for the mainline steam tribal chief SNGLT's 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley while working Saphos Trains's The Fellsman from Chester to Carlisle & Return as on this day marked the 65th Anniversary of achieving the post war world speed record of 112mph back in 1959 a record that he still proudly holds to this day.
Today was also Sir Nigel's 1st run on a mainline steam special over Shap northbound since the 1990's while taking part in the famous Shap Trials against The NRM's 46229 Duchess of Hamilton & The 71000 Trust's 71000 Duke of Gloucester.
It was a day to forget for the normal passenger services following cancellations & disruption due to the aftermath of the storms from the previous day & flooding on most parts of the network north of Preston.
60007 Sir Nigel Gresley defeated the floods against all the odds & went on ahead as scheduled.
We start at Shap Wells as we see the A4 running magnificently on the 1 in 75 grade heading to Shap Summit with 12 coaches & 47810 Crewe Diesel Depot in tow & with no assistance from the 47 at the rear.
For the return it was nip & tuck as earlier that day the Carlisle to Appleby leg of the S&C was closed due to flooding & we thought the trip would go back over Shap however an hour before the trip was due to leave Carlisle Network Rail reopened the Carlisle to Appleby section & 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley went back over The S&C as scheduled.
We end at Kirkby Stephen station as we see once again the A4 in fine fettle climbing towards the summit at Ais Gill with once again no assistance from 47810 at the rear.
Thanks for company of ‪@TheStephengthompson‬ at Shap & ‪@a.r.productions‬ at Penrith prior to the announcement of the return run.
Thanks for reading enjoy the film.
