Urban exploration, also called “UE” or “urbex” for short, is the act of finding manmade structures lost to abandonment and decay, or secret rooms of larger manmade buildings, and exploring them, usually accompanied with photography or videography to document such events. Popular locales urbex enthusiasts like to explore are abandoned buildings and modern ruins of places such as hospitals, schools, malls, and factories, underground dwellings such as catacombs, sewers and storm drains, and transit or utility tunnels. Obviously, with these types of feats, the threat of physical danger is high, and without permission, explorers run into the risk of legal trouble, as well. Like any other exploration, history has its fair share of urbex horror stories, ranging from run-ins with the law, the paranormal, and even death itself.
To give you a closer look at the art of roof-and-tunnel hacking, here are 5 examples of urban exploration gone wrong…

Not always. If the shot came from a different room and depending on the caliber it wont be as loud as you might think. If they were in a room with no windows open or doors then yeah it would be loud as hell but with all the open door ways the sound will dampen. Unfortunately I was in a room right next to someone who got shot and killed with a 9mm and the first shot sounded like sombody dropped a stack of books on the concrete. Not super loud at all and nobody in the room thought it was a gunshot till we heard 2 more and people screaming.

I can confirm that was training ammunition found, specifically blank shells. As for why you would find such a thing in an abandoned building most police departments utilize abandoned buildings such as schools and hospitals to train for active shooter events and other scenarios. It’s actually not unusual for police and particularly SWAT to use abandoned structures for practice; handling different situations like hostage taking, taking down armed occupants, etc. I interned at a psychiatric hospital, like the old style ones with lots of acreage and many buildings. The hospital down-sized and a lot of the buildings are no longer used. We were told that police/SWAT might use some of the abandoned buildings and not panic if we heard gunfire.

Most Urban ex videos are faked, I've been to several abandoned places to explore and there's never anything freaky in these places. You may come across homeless people (who are generally quite polite and will speak with you and even ask if you have a spare cigarette or some food) and you can come across other explorers but I have never, and none of the people I used to go with, have ever encountered a ghost, a demon, a psycho with a gun, a stalker, a serial killer etc etc Yet a vast majority of these Urban ex videos always manage to capture something strange or other worldly lol They're as bad as the 'Ghost hunter' videos where they ALWAYS encounter some sort of entity whenever the cameras are rolling.
Videos like these are mostly done for clicks in hopes that one of them will go viral and make the channel a load of money. I don't deny that maybe now and then, there'll be one of these explorers that will, on occasion, encounter some thing weird but there's too many videos and too many 'weird' occurrences that happen in them for most of them to be anything other than a hoax.

I know this from the perspective of the gangs. We sold drugs and felt the drifters would bring attention to what we felt was our area. Anyways, I'm grown up and left that lifestyle behind me. I'm more generous to the ppl who camp around my neighborhood. If they are cool I'll buy them water during the summer and give em extra gloves and beanies during winter. My brother and I still like to have a few drinks and go out doing graffiti and tagging. In two cases we discovered pagan like rituals on the ground. Clothing laid out as if the invisible man was resting in the grass. Both times the bible would be open to certain verses. Did I mention that outside my living room window is a public trail. In my apartment complex we were alerted, a few neighbors reported ppl knocking on windows along the trail and may have been peeping toms. I felt disturbed by this. My brother on the other hand had different outlooks. He motivated me to walk with him at night to look for these "evil doers" and kick their asses. While apart of me awoken from those wild teenage years I still didn't feel 100% about all this. On this journey we discovered some strange characters. One person looked like Tom Hanks from Cast Away. He was barefooted with no shirt and shorts torn up. We were clearly in his site and yet all he did was walk by us as if we didn't exist. My brother wanted to follow him but I begged a differ. Autumn isn't exactly the best time to be topless and shoeless. I figured this man was clearly on something and it's a general rule of thumb the most dangerous person is the one with nothing to lose. This man looked like he not only lost a job, a house, and savings, he looked like he lost his mind as well. We continued walking along the trail. Some parts were illuminated. Some were pitched black. As we began to pass by a main street with plazas we noticed a stranger. Right away from the distance we saw that his posture and way of walking was creepy. And as he got closer we saw insanity in his eyes. He as well had on no shirt although he did have a leather jacket on. My brother immediately told me "the moment he acts up, we stomp the shit out of him", I nodded in agreement. The dude took one glance at us. It was indeed disturbing. None the less he just tipped his head and said "sup" and kept walking. To get off the trail I told my brother let's get something to eat. It's late but there should be a place open. We walked back home on the semi busy road never stepping foot on the trail. I had more eerie feelings that one night then I did being a little hoodlum in the bad side of town. I briefly forgot about that night for a couple days. That is until the newspaper announced that a man was murdered along the trail about 45mintues from where I lived. It turned out to be that very same man who said "sup" to us. He was stabbed to death in his torso. I told my brother we shouldn't go out at night for a while considering the detectives are taking this case seriously for the sake of the town folks. I kept the blinds closed and my shotgun nearby. I thought about that strange man and if he had something to do with it. I continued living there for a few more months. From the pagan ritual to the weird man murdered, I felt I can take it and that it's life. But the final incident that inspired me to relocate was when I heard a knock at my door. It was my next door neighbor. It appears his Gnomes disappeared or were stolen he claimed. He ask if I saw anyone usual or anything different. Since my blinds have been shut I haven't been able to see anything much. He came to me because these gnomes were placed not to far from out side my window. Which means for someone to walk up and take them, they had to have came close to my bedroom window. To top all this off, my brother who wondered off to have have a smoke came back with pictures of the gnomes along the trail in the same spot we found one of the pagan rituals. When the lease was up I moved out and moved on.

    I’ve said it before:
It’s just a matter of time before urban explorers will be attacked, or worse. Many of the places these kids visits are the domain of homeless people, often with drug related and/or severe psychiatric problems. They will defend their area. These kids think they’re invincible and immortal. They are not. To the inhabitants it’s not a game.

    • @BettyLucille
      @BettyLucille Год назад +7

Most actual Urban Explorers are not kids. They are adults who know the dangers and risks. It is illegal to be in most of these abandoned places anyway so both the explorers and the homeless are at risk. Urban explorers have a thirst for adventure that needs to be quenched and the homeless are just looking for a place to stay warm and dry because society is too stupid to help them. Nobody is innocent in this situation.

Keep your fear mongering to yourself. The unhoused that have such issues are more a threat to themselves and in danger from police. Look up how many departments have unofficial policies of "No Humans Involved" for incidents. Then really think the homeless are something to be paranoid about, even while exploring.
Unhoused hide to get away from those that see them as trash, for warmth or because they might get a few weeks or months out of the place before they have to move on again.

That Franko TV video, though - the RUclips version of creepypasta.
"Hey, bro, you free tonight? I need you to walk around slowly in an abandoned town while wearing this discount Michael Myers mask I found. I'll pay you with pizza and beer since the video's gonna make money from the RUclips monetization."
    Also:
    - Sees creepy guy walking around abandoned area - "Gee I hope he doesn't find me. Better blabber out loud while shooting video instead of adding a voice over or text later."
    - Is a prolific RUclipsr yet is also like, "Look at that weird guy over there. Good thing I am terrible at keeping him in frame and am making the video shaky AF." Seriously, like every camera made within the last 10 years has either optical or software stabilization but I guess that would ruin the melodramatic "found footage" effect that he's trying to copy.
    - And at the end: "Oh hey, there's that guy that seriously creeps me out again. I guess he hasn't noticed the headlights so I should honk at him to get his attention. Oh no! He's slowly turning aroundand has something in his hand that isn't some sort of firearm! Better freak out while securely locked (with another person, yet) in my 3,000+ pound steel cage on wheels that I can use to either run him over or flee at a very high rate of speed if necessary. You know what? I'll just continue driving super slowly while engaging with some dramatic dialogue with my passenger instead."

I've been into the urbex community for a few years but have only really been able to go to a few places. I actually got into it without knowing this was a "thing" and finding out later on that there are others that are fascinated by this type of exploration. Mostly got into it as I've been homeless (almost out of it though now) and after losing everything I said f it I'm going to adventure and kind of put exploring old abandoned places together with trying to find shelter while going from place to place. I had a carabiner knife and hatchet in my travel backpack so I was always armed at least but I definitely was aware that I needed to be smart especially being alone.
BTW, that last one... Holy hell. I jumped out of my skin after he honked and the man turned on the spot with the damn no face thing going on. I literally paused and stared in horror then played it back in slow motion. I mean that coupled with the very real screams was just.... God man, for the love of Christ if you're gonna do this shit USE COMMON SENSE.

Too many people are prone to auto suggestion, meaning if you expect ghosts, every sound suggests that. Also over active imaginations.

I watched this during the night which was a big mistake. The last storyline of that creepy looking guy walking around with a mask on in the dark freaked me out and stayed with me as I fell asleep again. Wow!

I don’t have the guts to go an abandoned building and explorer. That’s too scary even if it’s daytime

I was born at Pottstown hospital, which is very near Penn Hurst, and I grew up in the pottstown/Phoenixville area..when I and my dad were both younger, he would take me there and we would roam the outside and the buildings..I've always loved the place..the basement areas were the creepiest and we heard moaning in there more than once..I found a huge box in the admin offices, which was full of pennhurst id's, of patients and staff..I still have a handful of them..pennhurst is awesome! Too bad the military uses most of those buildings now, and a lot are gone forever...my dog merlin, killed a poor chipmunk on the grounds..ill never forget it..😒

19:10 that spent ammo is actually a blank. It did not have a bullet to fire, just the powder. Police do use rounds like this to train and using abandoned buildings or schools helps them to train in room clearing and become familiar with high risk extractions.

Your right, these places perfect scenario as well, a reality setting so to speak.
Using blanks without accidentally being handed/ firing a live round. Not ending up killing someone. Unlike the unexplained as of yet, Alec Baldwin incident. Brandon Lee.
Gun control being popular theme in hollywood, makes one wonder why "prop" guns are used, instead of sophisticated fake. Never aiming at someone is #1 rule testing, practicing withdrawal, whatever.

@@moongoddess590 another thing, I don't think there were in America. Kind of assuming based on his accent.
If so I can imagine how freaked they were encountering a real gunman...

With regard to the old school with bullet shells, it wouldn't be surprising to find training rounds within the complex. I don't know what it's like there, but where I am it's common for Police tactical teams and military to run exercises in recently abandoned complexes previously state owned, e.g. old hospitals and the like.

This has probably been said already but im gonna say it myself just so more people can see it. As to why you'd find training rounds in old abandoned buildings is because police specifically S.W.A.T. Units (if the local PD has one) will use them for training.

Ghost Adventures went to Pennhurst one time, and they captured from pretty interesting things. :)
I remembered seeing the wrestler guy in an episode of "Are You Being Served?". I thought he looked a little too much like Ric Flair, but I knew it wasn't him. :P
I've seen the no. 2 and no.1 videos on another YT channel. That last video was SUPER creepy! I hope to God that was a stalker wearing a mask; otherwise, we'd have to say that he had no face! 0_0
