Yeah everybody catches on when Tom says his line, but just in case you forgot earlier in the show they mentioned buying tickets to "Santa Claus Goes to High School."
Yeah, I was lost too when this song started, it didn't seem like it had any connection to the story. Seems like they could have had some kind of intro that referred to the movie
@@seanmcmurphy4744 I think the confusion is kinda intentional. Especially since when you're actually watching it live, you can't really stop to look in the comments or google what is happening, you just kinda have to sit there Experiencing this madness that is somehow a really good song, and then finally get the punchline of tom popping up.
The lyrics to this song always make me laugh, they're just random Christmas-related cliches. Just what you would expect in a mediocre seasonal musical like "Santa Claus is Going to High School"
When you were like “idk is this High School Musical?” it made me emotional because I realized that’s like. Deep Starkid lore. HSM was referenced multiple times in their very first shows like a decade ago so for me it was just like oh of course they’re doing it again but for you it was new. I’ve been a fan since before their second official show as Starkid (Starship) and now yesterday they announced the kickstarter for their newest show. Wild. Btw wait till you see the shows where they have one guy playing the whole ensemble…
So I have still managed not to see any of the High School Musical movies, but I'm cracking up at how many references you're pointing out that I recognize from other Starkid shows (specifically their wizard series). "You gotta get your head in the game, Weasley", "What would Zac Efron say at a time like this? 'We're all in this together!'"
There's a video on youtube somewhere where James Tolbert (one of the ensemble actors) who did the choreography for this show teaches the dance moves of this song. Y'know, in case that interests you lol
OHHH I didnt realize Mariah Rose Faith was from Starkid! Her singing videos always pop up on my for you page. I was wondering what her connection with Robert Manion was once i saw them sing together!
@@singwithAshley Yes! She joined Starkid in _The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals_ where she had two memorable solo songs, plays a lead character with several duets in _Nerdy Prudes Must Die_ and she was just cast as one of Cinderella's wicked stepsisters in their upcoming _Cinderella's Castle_ . Would like to see what you think of her voice
i will say just for future reference the main guy in this number as santa (robert) doesn't return after this show (so hes in the guy who didnt like musicals and this but not the third show nerdy prudes must die) because of some behind the scenes stuff that happened (vague i know but its a whole lot and i dont want to bring the vibe down plus it happened so long ago now)
Through that whole song the audience is like “what the heck are we watching y’all” and then we’re connected to Tom when he wakes up because he’s also like “what the heck am I watching?”
Also, you are going to LOVE Nerdy Prudes Must Die. There's no Jeff Blim singing in it, but the music that he wrote is so much improved, and the harmonies are fantastic!
Most likely, I typically try to just delete those. I was using a new editing program this time so I may have grown a little impatient in some areas 😅 I WILL say, when they sang “Kris Kringle” the auto captions thought they sang “a spring roll” 🤣👏 I almost left it in there!
@@singwithAshleyI mean starkid has subtitles on their own videos afaik so if you just turn those on when reacting i think that'd be fine And less work for you Also would solve the issue of occasionally having subtitles of the singing be in the same line as subtitles of you talking (which can sometimes be a bit confusing tbh)
I spent the weekend watching different versions of Finrod (one of the Russian fantasy musicals I'm into, it's about an elven king who tries to aid this human hero on his quest to win the hand of the princess he loves, and who must at the same time make peace with his guilt and grief over things he has done in the past and his unresolved feelings towards a woman he loved but whom he left anyway) with some of my online friends, so this video came in handy as a way to balance all that angsty bittersweet super dramatic stuff :D
Yep, all the Hatchetfield shows have a little "show within a show" moment. It's a cute little running gag.

Didn’t Dumbledore fan on Zack Efron in A Very Potter Musical?!
He did indeed!! The legendary Headmaster Zefron
It really is a bop. After watching it, I found myself doing the choreography around the house.
