    Thank you so much!!! I watched many of the videos at a crucial time in our build. We bought some green glue, and I had to do more research because I have all this wood and I was about to buy Sheetrock and do ‘the method’. So glad I got educated, I knew something was not right and now we’re going back to layering materials. Thanks again. My favorite comment, “obey little, resist much”

      This nonsense is a waste of space, time, and money. Using 10" of space to go after 125 hz. and above is caveman thinking. We have come much farther down the technology highway than this 40 year old methodology.

    Green Glue is not a sound barrier. But it works well to decouple barriers. It is not intented to be an adhesive either. The Green Glue Compound is simply a product that dampen the vibrations from a layer to a second layer by remaining flexible. Nothing more, nothing less. The barrier is the layer (typically gypsum). The green glue is a flexible compound to prevent vibrations transmissions. And it does its job well.
    Compared to MLV, it does not serve the same purpose. Between 2 layers, Green glue compound is better than MLV at absorbing vibration, being a layers decoupler, but it doesn't add mass. MLV adds mass, it has more a barrier effect. But at the end, the dampening effect of green glue wins over the MLV (when MLV is used between sheets). MLV is better in special wrapping applications like duck work. Otherwise MLV is just way too expansive for less performance, generally in the whole frequency range, but specifically in low-end frequencies.

      Really? They market and people believe it has magical noise transmission properties at many frequencies. Green glue is nothing but an adhesive that is over priced and over marketed. All you have to do is look at the ingredients and compare those of GG with standard silicon based adhesives at 25% of the price. Discussing noise transmission by comparing MLV to GG is nonsense. All material types are frequency and amplitude dependent. I do not care what the material type is. One is never better than the other for all applications. Generalizations are for the uninitiated to hide behind. The construction methodology along with the material type and the noise numbers are much more critical than any of its single material types. Saying one is better than the other completely misses the meaning of the noise attenuation barrier measuring and building processes.

    If we’re just looking for a small air gap with some dampening qualities between the sheets of drywall wouldn’t lining one of the sheets with a bunch of weather stripping then sandwiching it between the two get you where you need to be at a fraction of the cost? I’m no architect nor engineer, but I would think.

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  2 года назад

      What are the frequency and amplitude of your noise issues? Without knowing this critical data, you are guessing. Guessing with noise is foolish. You will always gyess wrong.

  • @martindl4290

    Do you have a similar take on something call Walldamp which is a rubber'ish product applied in pretty much the same way as the Green Glue except it's solid.

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  3 года назад

      You must understand that there is no single material type that works for noise transmission. You must combine material types to create a barrier that is designed specifically for your noise transmission issues. Barriers for full range noise transmission are complicated structures with numerous layers all arranged in a pattern that matches the noise you are trying to reduce.

      @@AcousticFields Agreed, and the Idea with wallamp is to isolate studs from the walls and also isolate two walls from each other. Made by ASC Acoustic Sciences. Maybe they are a fraud, I don't know. Seems legit though.

    Hello sir, my neighbour is noisy and wouldn't want to wear headphones, he plays this sound which echos and makes a very irritating sound when it reaches my ear drums. I avoid bothering him by wearing headphones all the time, but respect isn't reciprocal . Our ''rooms'' are side by side and i want to install 5/8 type x dry wall on my wall and cover it for carpet adhesive. Is that a good idea? is there a better option? maybe add a layer of 5/8 dry wall then add another layer of 5/8? or maybe buy that special sound proof dry wall? please reply, really need your help!

    • @AcousticFields

      We receive many inquires regarding noisy neighbors in townhouses or apratments. As with any noise, it first must be measured. Without knowing the frequency and amplitude (strength) of the noise, we are just guessing and that is a waste of time and money. You must also realize that any noise issue is a permanent construction fix.

    different from using normal silicone .
    Just buy a cheap constuction silicone glue and you good to go .

      One minor advantage of green ;as a (obviously) latex based product it’s less messy to work with. Other alternative acoustic caulk -which remain permanently flexible of even some outdoor carpet glues,neoprene or rubber strips on each stud etc

    • @kennethsrensen7706
      @kennethsrensen7706 Год назад

      I can agree on acoustic caulk it works great but green is just as messy as all other
      sicicone based products , no difference here and no acoustic difference too , its just another silicone product so just get the cheapest one , it function just as good as the expensive socalled acoustic ones ....
      But acoustisc caulk is pretty good alternative and I highly recommend it : )
      It can do a difference if used correctly : )

    More layers of product isn't cheaper ? If your working away from home as an example, more materials means longer on site fitting the extra materials/the actual cost of the extra materials/extra time in hotel's because your labour is still on -site / the list goes on. Glad your not costing our jobs !

    • @AcousticFields
      @AcousticFields  3 года назад +1

      Your jobs do not involve high resolution rooms with low noise floors. Critical listening environments have much higher demands that must be met. Cost becomes secondary to performance.

      @@AcousticFields we design and build studios of all sizes and shapes including drum and bass studios with independent test data carried out by IOA acoustic consultants and I've tested with green and without and it definitely works. I've used everything over the years including MLV and differing weights of rockwool and the best combination is a particular weight of rockwool with a set amount of Mass and green glue. Add a little cork here and there and you have the perfect storm. PS I'm not on the payroll of green glue just like the stuff. Just finished a garage studio for a well known Drum and Bass DJ and now building a recording studio/post production studio/Broadcast studio/and a radio station for a University in the UK with my installers working away from home and cost is a massive factor in our applications.35 years building and testing studios by the way.

      Not sure your back ground but worrying you think MLV is any good. No good at low end and hard to use. We sound test studios on completion with different guarantees depending on budget but sounds like your a DIY plonker led by the blind. Stop making studio design the black art. simple physics and experimental construction. Mass /dampening/isolation/absorption. Wow you don't use MLV as vibration dampening. Bet your company? uses this as full on wall or floor treatment.
      MLV is best used between MDF sheets. Helps with the vibration. Nothing else.
      Never use that product as a sound barrier. Just the same as green glue.
      Check your data.
      I have slightly a bit more experience than yourself.
      40 year's in the business.
      To state green glue is worth the hundreds needed to apply between plasterboard? That's just unbelievable.
      Low end is not what this thread was about..
      You have lost the plot.
      As i stated before.
      For low end.
      Start with flooring.
      Rubber pucks and self isolating MDF with MLV even cork but only in extreme cases.
      Then build a room inside the room. With air gap to isolate vibrations.
      Mass is what i said.
      You said the exact same.
      So are you telling me green glue adds mass?
      No it only dampens the vibrations. So yes your data will show it has a decrease.
      But to claim 50db reduction on it's own is laughable.
      You keep installing then plasterboard with rockwool.
      I will stick with MDF MLV in between. Same data as green glue but way more cheaper.
      As you were going on about hotel bills?
      Point is they are better products on the market than green glue.
      What this thread is about..
      Keep ripping your clients off 👍😩
